3.5 stars Food– Mapo Tofu: I didn’t expect it to be like szechuan restaurants with the hua jiao(the peppercorn that numbs your mouth). It wasn’t spicy enough but they were accomodating and brought me freshly sliced red & green chili peppers, as well as a container of chili oil. Hot and Sour Soup: I’m surprised this was about the same price as other restaurants since their other dishes look marked up about 30%-50% higher than at typical Chinese restaurants. Perhaps it’s because it was slightly less dense than I’m used to. Overall flavor was balanced, wish it was a bit thicker. Some grilled potato/vegetable dish: My dad prefers to eat vegetarian so he got this. I thought it was quite possibly the most clean-tasting and well-cooked dish of this kind I’ve eaten. Potatoes and eggplant were very tender. Could do without bell peppers. Otherwise A+ dish. Service: The servers wore traditional garb, and they were very courteous and accomodating. Definitely not like your average Chinese restaurant. Décor: I think the images of random Chinese places is a bit weird. It doesn’t really seem to help the look. Probably would’ve looked better with traditional Chinese artwork, like paintings of nature and such. The cushions were nice, although I worry about how they can maintain the cleanliness. The cushions at Tasty Garden after they got the purple(velvet?) cushions are not a great example. Overall the food quality is quite good unless you are expecting the specialized restaurant quality. It seems more palatable for the average American taste. The identity seems confused though. It looks more upscale but at the same time feels casual with the pillows and cushioned seats. Not to mention the TVs which add to the bar feel.

I love that this place is spacious and the décor is beautiful. I like the sofas placed to the side. The downside is this place is dirty and I think my bro got sick from eating here. If you are thinking about throwing a wedding here, I see why you would want to but please rethink that after trying the food here.

Environment — 4.5 Star Food — 3.5 star Service 5 star Price — $$- $$$ We got the sizzling tofu(must order maybe?) and its really good and fresh. The three cup chicken was not that great after I read all the reviews, I just don’t like the dressing. We ordered a lot from the BBQ menu and they were all pretty decent except the BBQ oysters. If you love traditional spicy Chinese food — Their spicy food are really good! The environment is top notch as a restaurant located @ Rosemead Will definitely come back, especially(happy hour after 10PM) with a group of friends so we can get some BBQ and BEERS. The price is not that great though if its not happy hour.

The food was good. 3 cup chicken was delicious. The beef dish I ordered was good and addictively spicy the fried fish was so perfect. The crispy flavorful out side and the soft tender inside made this dish stand out! I enjoyed everything. The grilled quail was a little bit dry and the seasoning wasn’t the best. I enjoyed almost everything but minus one star for the price! The bill was pretty high for the amount of food we got

The star is for the interior Asian fusion décor and nice service. Doesn’t matter what you order. No point in listing because every single dish was WAAAYYYYY too salty. For the higher class Chinese food crowd it’s trying to attract, the food comes out looking like a hole in the wall restaurant where it’s a pile of brown stuff with no plating. It’s a bar but no one drinks cause the police station is close by. Parking is poorly lit. But the real reason why there’s a one star rating is because out of four girls, three got food poisoning Grand Opening night!!! I actually threw up at the restaurant and then we got a stomach ache after we left!!! Needless to say NOT coming back

Upon arriving here, we didn’t know what to expect. The bill was pretty expensive for 3 people considering the portion size but it wasn’t bad. A lot of the menu items were indeed white out or crossed off to be unable to be ordered. We got the sizzling tofu, Korean bbq rib, bacon wrapped scallops, fried rice with shrimp, and a few other smaller things. We also tried the yogurt soju. The sizzling tofu was great. They sizzle it right in front of you so you know it’s fresh. The sauce tastes good too and it’s not too salty. The fried rice however is a bit too salty. I guess it’s better than being dry and bland though. The best menu item was the bacon wrapped scallops. The tender ness of the bacon too, yummy. You only get 4 pieces a plate though. The Korean rib was also really good. Highly recommend. Lastly, the soju tastes good but the alcohol content is very weak. Don’t expect even a buzz from the entire bottle. Maybe this will improve later as the restaurant is less new. To conclude, the service is friendly and fast. The interior is also really nice. I like the pillows on the booth seats. Don’t forget to check in for a discount.

This is a new upscale Asian restaurant in 626 on Rosemead Blvd where Bahooka used to be! It’s hard to imagine how much has changed when you check out the interior. The old fish tanks and boat feel is completely replaced with very nice Asian décor and definitely has that high class dining feel. The hostesses and waitresses are all amazingly beautiful, not that you came to this place for eye-candy, but hey it always help! So we came here for the food and having heard good things from reviews from others, we came hungry and ordered a bunch of things off the menu, most of them either sizzling or spicy: 1. Sizzling Squid — probably ranks up there as my top three dishes for the evening 2. Spicy Fish — Another great dish. Tender and spicy! 3. Three cup chicken — I had this dish at many places, and Moonlight did theirs just as well as my other favorite places. The boneless chicken were cooked with ginger and sweet sauce. Go with this if you have a hard time picking out a dish to try. 4. Spicy Clams — this was what I looked forward to the most and it didn’t disappoint 5. Bacon wrapped Enoki mushrooms — yum, can’t go wrong with bacon! 6. Galbi — got to eat this quick when it’s sizzling to taste it how’s it’s meant to 7. Sizzling Tofu: sweet and firm 8. Spicy Glass Noodle — I only got to try a little of this because we were sharing family style, but from the little bit I tried, it made me want more

Every dish is very salty, Portion is extremely small, a $ 11 veggie is like 1 entrée from Panda Express. 3 items was added to the check for items we didn’t order, and they removed the charge immediately, without Questioning!!! Dishonest!!! I’ll never come back again for dishonesty!

My original reviews was deleted for being negative(along with many others) which I always thought Unilocal promised businesses couldn’t do. So be wary of all the overly positive reviews from people with zero other reviews That being said the interior was really nice. You can tell some money has been invested. Unfortunately it appears almost nothing was done to the exterior. The parking lot and exterior are run down and still resemble the old establishment(which I won’t name for fear of this review being deleted too) The drinks are limited to a couple craft beers and soju. I’m guessing they don’t have a liquor license yet. Although if we got complimentary booze like a lot of other reviews mentioned I’m sure theyd get an extra star. The food was mediocre and overpriced for the quantity but not terrible. The only redeeming quality was that the customer service wasnt too bad. With all the other options in the area you’re better off going somewhere else

Came here Friday night with some fellow Unilocalers for dinner, and it was spicy(not too spicy) and delicious :) Usually, I’m not a fan of Shanghai, Sichuan, Hunan food since it’s pretty spicy for me, but the dishes had enough kick to just numb my mouth without making me sweat while eating or swelling up my throat from all the hotness, While waiting for the others to arrive, the owner came over and greeted us while his servers served us water and complimentary peanuts. They were boiled and yummy and a nice tummy tamer while waiting for the others to arrive. Once everyone got here, we started ordering, and here are my favorites and least favorite dishes: Beforehand, we were also given a complimentary bottle of Yogurt Shochu(Korean sake). Loved the sweetness and sharp taste of it, but tp me, it lacked alcohol in it since I didn’t get my Asian flush, lol! As for the dishes: 1. Three cup chicken: A MUST!!! The tender, moist, and boneless chicken pieces were cooked with ginger and their sweet sauce. I like this dish the best. 2. The sizzling plate tofu: served table side — the round tofu were sweet and firm. 3. The mango and green tea ice cream desserts. After all the yummy spicy foods, the desserts were a great way to finish the meals since my mouth was numb from it, lol! 4. The sizzling squid plate — also served table squid — the squid pieces were nicely cut for quick searing and it wasn’t chewy. 5. Spicy Glass Noodle — it had a small kick of heat, but it was a delightful ans refreshing appetizer. 6. Bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms: granted, it came out like 1 hour later, but it was good and crunchy. 7. The sizzling plate Korean short ribs — nice presentation, but it was chewy. 8. Spicy Fish: it was alright, and the fish was tender and firm. 9. Spicy Clams — this was super spicy for me, and the clams I got served didn’t open their mouths after getting cooked and so I stayed away from that plate. 10. If you want rice — it’s a $ 1.50 charge per bowl. Overall, service was great, especially, with water refills since we were eating spicy dishes. Ever since they got their liquour license, business has been booming. The owner was great in checking in on us and making sure we were having a good time. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious and well lit. Even the restrooms were clean and big. Definitely would come back another time with family. Goodbye Bahooka, and Hello Moonlight! I’ll see you again next time! :)

This place is mediocre at best. There was nothing appealing on the menu and there is NO bar. Parking lot looks run down and has bad lighting, it’s a disaster waiting to happen. I was there with a group of 5. We had several dishes including shrimp, chicken, veggies, beef and pork. I didn’t do the ordering and didn’t bother asking what the dishes were because they weren’t worth coming back for.

Came here for just drinks on Friday night with my friends. The outside doesn’t look appealing at all, but wow, when you walk inside it’s a completely different place. It’s absolutely beautiful, spacious and huge. The decoration is gorgeous, I love it. The best thing about this place are their booths! Omg I literally could fall asleep at the restaurant because once you rest your back up against it, it’s so soft and it just reels you in. There’s cushions and stuff too to use as a pillow, just in case you do fall asleep there. So their sign outside says 50% of drinks, well to us, we thought it meant alcoholic drinks. It wasn’t until we got the bill and asked the waiter about it, and he said it’s only 50% off non alcoholic drinks like soda and juice lol –_– boy did we feel really dumb. Either we felt really dumb or felt tricked lol. Their yogurt soju also tasted like there was no alcohol in it and it didn’t even get me buzzed. I’m a light weight when it comes to alcohol, but their yogurt soju didn’t do anything to me. But yeah the workers here are really nice and friendly, so we will be back to try their food!

Chinese restaurant are popping up all over 626 area. This used to be Bahooka Family Restaurant, a Hawaiian restaurant in my hood but I never got a chance to visit. When the news that this replace been replaced, I was curious on how it turn out. I when this restaurant twice already, they only open about 3 weeks. Despite the name it said Restaurant and Bar, as it now there’s no alcohol license yet, is currently pending. It probably will take 1 or 2 more weeks. The exterior of the restaurant is basically the exactly the same as the old restaurant except changing the name sign. However the interior is major different, and you can tell a lot money been spend on the renovation. The furniture are very classic Chinese and is rare to find this even in 626. It remind me a bit like Newport Seafood but much nicer. The waitress dress Cheongsam which is a classic silk dress. There’s tons of big screen TV plus one 100″ projector I think? Customer service here is top notch, the best I had so far for a Chinese Restaurant in the area, so far there’s not a lot customer know or had dine here. Lets see if they keep up their excellent customer service when it get very busy. As for food, strange mind sound that’s their foood is their weakest part so far. Don’t get me wrong it still very good quality, but just still fall a bit short when compare to super popular Chengdu Taste. However the food is above average and just a bit overpriced in my opinion. However they currently offer 15 percent of all food and insane 50 percent for their beverage. The food they serve here is mix of Taiwanese, Hunan, and Sichuan. I don’t see familiar Shanghai dish(XLB, Red Braised Pork etc.) despite some claim this is Shanghai style restaurant, I had do disagree. Anyway most dish were good and my favorite would that 3 flavors chicken(Free range and no bones). In general their grill food isn’t that tasty but their entrée is more than satisfied for most food critics. I would definite come back here try different dish when they get their alcohol license, so far every of my friend who had dine here like here. Some of them are the most picky eater !

Out with the beloved… Bahookas… In with the lights and the glam of Moonlight Restaurant and bar. Been open for only 2 weeks! What’s great about soft openings? Discounts for all! 50% off drinks and 15% off food items! Location/Parking: Just turn into the driveway in between the restaurant and the last remnants of bahookas, a old white spray painted gunner). Ample amount of parking in the back. Ambiance/Décor: Very relaxing ambiance with dim lights. I can see this place more like a lounge once this place gets busier. Modern chinese furnishings with a touch of night life flair in the bar area. The bar area is not functional just yet. They’re waiting on their liquor license. Entertainment: They have a big projector screen to watch sports and 4 – 5 smaller size lcd tv’s all around the restaurant. Pricing: It’s a bit high. I think this place is the most that I spent on the three cup chicken entrée($ 13 something). The 15% discount did help a bit. Service: Jensen(manager) was very inviting when I came through the doors. He answered all my questions that I threw at him, gave me a tour of the restaurant, and let me take as many pictures of the place. Carol,(waitress) was great! She was very attentive, friendly, and checked up on me periodically throughout the duration of my visit. Food came out at a okay time, but can be better. Food: I ordered the 3 cup chicken. Decent! No bones and tender meat! Lot of flavor, but it was still a bit salty for me. I’ll probably tell them to put less salt or go easy on the sauce next time I pay a visit. Drink: First time having Taiwanese Yogurt! Sad to say, I thought it just tasted like regular yogurt, but it does have more of a tart taste to it. Overall, my experience was great. Can’t wait to come back to try other things on their menu and hopefully by then, they have their alcohol license.

Although it sucks how the other reviewers said that the new owners killed the 20+ year old fish, I’m not going to judge based on that action. This review is for the new restaurant and its food. Currently, they do not have an alcohol license, so come back in a couple months if you want to order alcohol here. Food is pretty much a mixture of Chinese and Taiwanese. They have some Sze Chuan styled food, as well as some Cantonese styled ones here as well. The Three Cup Chicken here was good. It didn’t include any bones, which is a huge plus. The Pig EArs were good too. Had some soy sauce in it. The Sze Chuan styled Glass Noodles were good, if you can eat spicy. I loved it, although the rest of my family couldn’t stand it. I wouldn’t recommend the clams because it wasn’t good at all and it had a lot of sand in it. Other than that, the environment was nice. They spent a lot of money remodeling the place. The waitresses were all pretty cute too, all dressed up in the traditional Qi Pao’s. I will definitely come back, probably after they get their alcohol license.

I heard about what happened here and what it was before. I drove by this place for years and finally, a new place opened. The Moonlight bar and restaurant is similar in food to San Gabriel’s Uncle Yu’s Indian place. My friend and I got the three cup chicken. I loved it! The sauce was delicious and the chicken was very tender. There were no bones at all. We also tried the grilled quails. It said that it came with 3 pieces, but we ended up getting 4 instead! Score! Quail was marinated well, but I do recommend using the three cup chicken sauce if you do get it. It adds a great flavor to it. I can see myself coming back here, especially for a game and watching the TV available. I would love to try more of their dishes! The current deal is 15% off so take advantage of it. The parking lot is huge, so it won’t be an issue.

*rolling my eyes over you racists* First of all, get a life and actually come to the restaurant. It’s pretty swank. It has an artsy /classy Shanghai theme and is pretty spotless and comfy, which is something I can’t really say about the previous Bahooka place. Yeah, I went to Bahooka and missed it too and was sad it was gone, but let’s be real, it was kinda deteriorating towards the end and really needed better management. I liked the theme and stuff but it was musty and food was so-so at best. Go read some of its Unilocal reviews before the fall if you don’t believe me. Lift those nostalgia glasses. Moonlight did quite a transformation and sorry, but they weren’t obligated to keep the whole tiki theme. That’s old school, man… but onto the actual review TBH I was pretty excited about this place because there aren’t enough places to drink in the SGV and it’s super close to me. My coworkers came here after work and we had a pretty good time. I’m vegetarian and there while most Chinese menus don’t offer too much for me their menu was vast enough to offer some possibilities. Their servers were pretty new, it being only their second day but they were attentive in accommodating us. Tofu was flavorful even though Szechuan food is usually too much for me. I was surprised by how good their soups and sauces were despite me not usually being a fan of Chinese food. My coworkers really enjoyed their food and ordered a ton. Alsooo complimentary dessert at the end, so be sure to ask for that. The restaurant has ample seating(super ample) and is much more spacey compared to the previous place. Lots of cool Shanghai themed art and stuff though it looks like the restrooms haven’t been decked out too much. Also the waitresses wear cute 20s era(I think?) Chinese dresses haha. Most of them speak pretty good English but if not, there seem to be enough that can. Overall pretty good considering their second day — tea could have been better, better beverage menu, and maybe service a little faster but I’ll save a harsher review for a second evaluation. I think a manager or someone even stopped by to ask us how everything was. This place is sorta more upscale and slightly higher price than your average Asian restaurant. I’m glad that it’s here though because there’s not too many cool trendy Asian places to eat within walking distance to me. And alcohol… but boo they don’t have any right now. I’ll come back in a few weeks and see how things keep up. And pssst. Owners. Bourbon cocktails & craft beer. That is all.
