Tenth and Blake Beer Co Elite Beer Dinner @Bogart’s in Muvico

Loved this event! I am not a beer connoisseur by any means so I was totally stoked for this event. While I did not enjoy all the beers presented to us, I learned a lot. Jeff from Tenth and Black was a wealth of information and I found it so interesting to see how the various beers paired with the different courses. That’s right… courses, as in SIT DOWN DINNER! Such a great, relaxing night. We just sat back while the pairings were brought out to us and enjoyed!
Also, we got some pretty sweet swag. I scored a nice Peroni beer glass and matching shot glass. Many thanks to Tenth & Black, Candice and the entire team for spoiling us with this event!

This event was a complete success and I absolutely loved it! It was really great having a smallish sized table and getting to know fellow Unilocalers Weisun, Victoria and Rosanna & of course my best Unilocal buddy Phill. You guys were all great!
I was totally into this event before it even started because I am all about learning as I I dine. I love to drink beer but with Jeff Miller’s explanations of everything, I have a new respect for the drink and have a much better understanding of how to drink beer to truly complement the meal.
My favorite course of the night was the Mac & Cheese with bacon, nomnomnom plus I loved that we got to try Worthington’s and it’s such a new beer to the US. I love little tidbits like that! I think I’ve told 5 people since the event about Worthington’s. My personal favorite of the night was the Big Eddy Wee Heavy… I love it hard!
Um…and the swag bag, wowzahs! TWO pairs of new shades, Peroni full size glass and shot glass, and I LOVE the new Unilocal luggage tag! Thanks to Muvico for having us there and with the enticing coupons to lure us back, considered me swooned… I’ll be back for sure! Candice you know you the bomb and this event was amazeballs!

One great thing about being part of Unilocal Chicago Suburbs is that we are treated rather frequently to sit down meals. We don’t have to stand around in killer heels, we don’t have smoosh our boobs together to grab the bartender’s attention, and we don’t have to cut a bitch to get the last appetizer. It’s a simpler, easier way of life.
I’ve been privy to a number of noteworthy dining experiences with Unilocal,but this one was by far the most informative and original. As others mentioned, it allowed for samplings of food and drink that I might normally not have had the chance to try and definitely wouldn’t have known much about. I think you can enjoy a meal more when you have a background story (and a beer).
Jeff Miller from Tenth and Blake was exceedingly friendly, charismatic, knowledgeable and approachable. He’s everything you’d want from someone in a public role. He welcomed us to the dinner and spoke a bit about the brewery before we were served. He also introduced us to the other people who helped make this event possible and played a key role in creating the brews we were about to sample.
The dinner was five fabulous courses paired with carefully selected beers. We had a flatbread pizza with Peroni, chipotle mayo topped crab cake with Blue Moon, bacon/​red pepper mac and cheese with Worthington’s White Shield, Batch 19 demi-​glazed short ribs, veggies and garlic mashed potatoes with Batch 19, and pretzel bread pudding and vanilla bean ice cream with Big Eddy Wee Heavy.
My favorite was the Wee Heavy, which was more than just a «wee» bit heavy. It was strong and sweet. A great way to end the meal. I also enjoyed the Batch 19 and learning about the history of that beer. I’ve always been a fan of Blue Moon and I’m glad I got to try the Peroni and Worthington’s White Shield.

I cannot think of one reason why I wouldn’t give this event 5 stars! I was amused by how we were handed a bottle of beer as soon as we walked in. Everything I ate was scrumptious and I really enjoyed the history lessons that came with the beer pairings. I keep trying to think about what dish was my favorite, but each time I think I decide I remember how much I liked another dish. I think that the Mac and Cheese was my favorite, but then I remember how amazing the crab cakes with pineapple relish were and then my mouth starts salivating over the boneless braised short rib… get the picture? I never dined at Bogart’s before and the reviews on Unilocal deterred me. However, because of this event I am sure I will return!
My favorite beer of the night was the Peroni. I am not a huge fan of super hoppy or strong beers so I guess that makes sense. I liked the history lessons on where the term «IPA» originated and learning more about Prohibition. The Roaring Twenties were always a passion of mine when teaching history. I also considered taking my place-​mat for future reference like Valerie… but mine got a little yucky.
I know I often repeat myself when reviewing Unilocal events, but this one was truly awesome. I always have more fun at the smaller, more intimate events. I just wish, in an ideal and impractical world, that we could have all sit at one giant table to allow for more mingling… I know I said it was impractical, but I love my fellow Unilocalers!

My first Elite event! I love Candice forever for helping me get more involved in the Unilocal community. She is the sweetest. Everyone I met today was so friendly and easy to talk to. I had an amazing time foodsing it up with you guys.
I’m a total beer noob (beerginner?), and this was the perfect setting for getting acquainted with the topic. I really enjoyed the explanations and stories about each course from beer expert Jeff. Both the food and service provided by Bogart’s were fantastic. I loved that we got to take home hilarious pun-​emblazoned Unilocal swag and lovely Peroni glasses!
Beer notes:
1. Peroni: Nice, very light, kind of tastes like nothing but in a good way.
2. Blue Moon: Rounder, slightly citrusy, would definitely drink again. (Already tipsy by this point. The pours were really generous! Yes, I had a ride :))
3. Worthington’s: Intense! Too bitter for my taste, smells kinda scary.
4. Batch 19: A less intense dark beer with slight spicy flavors, not bad at all.
5. Big Eddy Wee Heavy: Definite caramel notes, somewhat sweet, a bit fruity (maybe raisin-​y?), very intriguing!

I had a wonderful time and now I feel like a (somewhat) beer aficionado! I really do feel like I learned something about each one of the different pairings, and now I know how to properly taste beer.
Everything was yummy, especially the mac n’cheese and the pretzel bread dessert! I am stuffed and happy!
And I really like the glass, as well as the cool swag bag (the sunglasses are sweet!).

Such a great event! Jeff Miller was great in being educational about the different beers we tried and why they paired so well with our course. Now I’ll want a Peroni everytime I have pizza! AATMF FTW!
Hats off to the chef for the best course of all the pretzel bread pudding topped with vanilla bean ice cream! Yum!
