Our cab driver suggested this restaurant to us, and we left SO impressed and also very full! We had the spicy cauliflower, chicken kottu roti, and lamb kottu roti. One of our friends is from Sri Lanka and would make kottu roti, and this place can certainly match his cooking in terms of authenticity. The ambiance is very inviting, and the service we had was excellent as well. When we are in town again, will be back for sure!

First visit but we will be back for more. Food was excellent, we had the special combo meal with Chicken, Potato and Beets, the chicken roll appetizers, and Deviled Shrimp plus an assortment of roti. So much more we want to try. Prompt, hot, delicious.

The server was very nice and helpful. We started with a spicy cauliflower. It was very spicy for my Scandinavian palate. We also got a veggie soup I was not expecting. We ordered a veggie and noodle dish as our main entrée. I liked the texture of the noodles. All the food smelled good and tasted great!

This place is a hidden treasure. We go and eat family style so we can try everything. I think I’ve had almost the entire menu and I always walk out of there raving about the food. Be prepared that sometimes it takes a while. It’s a family operated restaurant and they get busy. Just try to be patient because it’s so totally worth it!

We came here to try out the Sunday Buffet. We love our Indian food and was looking to try something a little different. Hitting up a buffet is always a good way to try many dishes of an unfamiliar ethnic food to figure out what you like. We showed up when the place opened and to my dismay there was a sign on the door saying they no longer have the Sunday buffet! I was upset but hubby convinced me to stay and try it anyway. Boy was I glad I did! We had their lamb coconut curry and the chicken kutta. Both were excellent and I loved that their curry wasn’t full of ghee(clarified butter) and cream like a lot of the Indian dishes. Their kutta was also a very unique Sir Lankan street food dish that was mentioned in the Star Tribune. We would definitely come back. I’m still sad about the buffet though!

Love House of Curry! Food and service is always wonderful. We usually get takeout, but have eaten in before. Family run with a casual, welcoming atmosphere. Authentic Sri Lankan curries and dishes. Very surprised to find them in Rosemount, but oh so happy they are here!

At first, like many others I’m sure, I was some what skeptical, because of a couple inaccurate and poorly written reviews about this place. My wife and I decided to give it a try, because there certainly is a lack of ethnic food in this area and we wanted to indulge on something different. Well, they did not disappoint and we will definitely be going back. It’s run by a couple of Sri Lankan natives, which certainly adds to the authenticity. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff was very friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in. For an appetizer, we got the chili shrimp, which was better than expected. Perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection, it had me licking the plate afterwards. A must try for sure! For the main course we had the chicken coconut curry and egg roti. We ordered the curry hot and I was surprised to find that they did not dumb down the spice, because of the demographic that most commonly frequents the place. It was actually hot! Very tasty. Let me also say that the curry is not supposed to be extremely thick, so don’t expect it to be. Yes, it’s slightly on the watery side on purpose, and for that I thought it was excellent. I’m a huge fan of naan and bread in general, so I could probably talk forever about how good the egg roti was, but then again that’s just my opinion. You’ll have to try and and see if I’m crazy. Those who posted a one star review and complained about the curry, don’t actually know what curry is supposed to taste like. Given our location and people’s lack of diversity on their palate, that doesn’t surprise me. Ignore the one or two star reviews and give this place a try!

This review is for the Sunday lunch buffet. For the most part the offerings were all well seasoned and pleasing to the palate. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Highlights from the buffet include: deviled chicken, chicken biryani, and vegetable string hoppers. Lowlights were the breads — the pol roti in particular was dense and coarse in texture. My only complaint is that for a relatively slow Sunday it didn’t seem like the kitchen was prepared to keep the food refreshed. When I got there the chicken curry was empty and when I left 40 minutes later it was still empty. A couple of other dishes were also needing to be refreshed. Overall, a good buffet worth checking out.

This place is too expensive for what you get – at least at lunch time. They used to have a buffet which I thought was good. I should have walked when I learned they no longer do the buffet except on Sundays and that the«specials» menu had no prices. The tab for two simply portioned lunch dishes was $ 35 and that is too expensive for me even though I am in the no man’s wasteland of restaurants south of the river. The food tasted alright but did not justify the price in my opinion.

Be sure to reconcile your credit card receipt to your statement. There was an additional dollar added to the tip the last time we went there. I can’t be sure if it was intentional or not, but it hard to mistake a $ 6 tip for $ 7. Food and service is good though.

Fantastic food and excellent service! We came here for lunch and since we were not completely familiar with Sri Lankan food, the staff was very courteous and made some great suggestions, that were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend it and we will be back soon since I know I will be craving this food!

Not sure where to start-definitely one of our favorite restaurants to go to. We went here first with our Sri Lankan friend and continue to come here on a regular basis with or without him now that we know what to order, it was really helpful to have his guidance on the first trip. We have never been disappointed. Some of our favorites are the spicy cauliflower, string hoppers with coconut chicken curry, chicken kottu with gravy, watalappan(for dessert). On the last Sunday of the month they make a hopper that’s almost like a crêpe with an egg in it so we always try to go for that — call ahead to be sure they will be making it. Some reviewers comments on the service– that is not a reason to not come here. It is definitely a family oriented place and things are not rushed here. Try to enjoy the experience of feeling like you’re part of a different culture. It truly is a gem.

Wanted to eat somewhere new that was local so fired up Unilocal and found this place. The reviews were good so I thought I was safe. But I wasn’t. We ordered the chicken kottu, deviled chicken and shrimp coconut curry. The chicken kottu was good. The deviled chicken was also good, though I don’t think the portions match the price. The shrimp curry was bland, soupy and small portion for the price. We did not receive a lot of white rice. We got a couple additional cups of white rice. We later found out rice was $ 3.50 per cup. That is a steep price for not much rice, especially considering how cheap rice is and the fact that a lot of other Asian restaurants give extra rice for free. We ended spending about $ 50 for our meal for 5. However all of us were still hungry. I’d avoid this place. If you do go there stick with the popular dishes as they seem more reasonably priced for the portions you get. Sadly for a place called«House of Curry» the curry was the worst part of the meal. I was overall disappointed and won’t be going back.

After reading Unilocal review, we went for lunch buffet. Pathetic food choice and none tasted good. Never visit this restaurant for lunch or dinner as the options are limited and buffet had just few options.

A little late in writing this review but better late than never! I’ve been here twice now and living here in the twin cities and having grown up in Sri Lanka I am so happy that this place exists because I can go there when I am too lazy to make my Chicken Curry! The first time we went on a Sunday and we all tried the Hoppers special(Think of Hoppers as a Crispy round Crêpe). The Ambul Thiyal(FIsh dish) was really good and the accompaniments were also very authentic and tasty! You have the pick of Fish or Chicken Curry with the Hoppers. Really recommend this as this is something you cant really make that easily at home! The second time I tried the Buffet but wasn’t as impressed, but if you are trying Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time, its probably a good way to taste different things. The Spice levels are pretty good as they will adjust it as needed if you are not so keen on chilles. One last thing, I really wish this was a little more close to Minneapolis or the immediate burbs around… but again, glad it exists.

We went here after reading about it in a mpls magazine of the 10 best new restaurants in the cities. Well, I do not agree. The place is tiny which is fine but we walked in and one of the waiters just stared at me so I asked if we should just seat ourselves which we did. We waited about 5 – 10 minutes and neither of the waiters brought us menus. Finally I flagged them down and asked for one. The guy that took our order obviously barely spoke English and we struggled with trying to understand what he was saying and he barely understood us. We ordered the Spicy Cauliflower and the house of Curry rice meal. With the meal we ordered shrimp and for veggies we ordered Dahl and kale. I wanted some of the other options for veggies but in broken English he told me they didn’t have any other items and we could only get kale, potatoes, or Dahl. Spicy Cauliflower– Great, very tasty, good amount of spice, and perfectly breaded. House of curry rice meal– not impressed at all. We asked for med heat and there was none. It was very blah. The Papadam was like Styrofoam. The kale was the worst very odd taste and I like Kale. It was plenty for 2 people even though the waiter disagreed. Overall we won’t be going back. The service was horrible and If you want amazing Curry go to Taste of Thaiyai in Apple Valley.

We need more diverse restaurants in the south suburbs. My son was so happy to hear about House of Curry that we tried it out a few days later. It is in a small strip mall located on County Road 42. Ambiance is minimal but it fits the area. There were two other couples present. We sat down and looked over the menu. Lots of curry options. We started by ordering the chicken rolls and we each ordered the House of Curry Rice Meal. The meal comes with your choice of meat or shrimp curry, rice, papadam and two vegetable choices. We waited over 20 minutes for the chicken rolls. By this time the restaurant started filling up. The owner was seating guests, taking orders and delivering food. The chicken rolls were a winner and disappeared quickly. Then the waiting began … we waited … and waited … and 40 minutes after the chicken rolls we had our curry. My son had ordered medium spicy and I ordered hot. The owner was honest that the spice is on the Minnesota scale. I remember the old Sri Lankan Curry house where hot made you breathe fire like a dragon. This hot had an edge but wasn’t that spicy. My son regretted only ordering medium spice. My shrimp curry was good but I didn’t care for my vegetable choices(eggplant and potato curry). We agreed that the spinach was the best vegetable. He thought the chicken curry was below average. The rice portion is large and the other components were small. Papadam is like a cracker — bread would have been much better. And this is where we made the mistake. I read about how good the Sri Lankan bread pudding was in another review. I asked the owner if the pudding was ready and if it would be quick. He said yes so we decided to split an order. Then we waited … and waited … another 20 minutes. By that time we were laughing so hard people were staring. Then the pudding arrived. We each ate a spoonful and it was absolutely AWFUL. Then we couldn’t stop laughing. It took a while to get the check too. My rating is 2 ½ stars. I hope it will get better with more staff(they are hiring) because 2 hours for the meal was way too long. The owner was friendly and answered our questions patiently. But the bread pudding still leaves an awful taste in my mouth. The laughs were great.

Oh-my-gosh! This is exactly what Rosemount needed! Something different and amazing!!! We heard from a friend that a new curry place opened in Rosemount and of course I couldn’t wait to go… I could eat curry for every meal and still crave it. So I made sure we wouldn’t have enough time to make dinner at home tonight so I could make sure we had a reason to go… and it worked ;). We got there and were surprised to find it empty… we were greeted right away by one of the incredibly nice owners and seated. The décor is really quite beautiful and unique. I have never had Sri Lankan food before, but the owner was extremely friendly and helpful! We started out with the papadam, I have never had it before and it was a really interesting texture, and crisp like a potato chip almost, there was a green sauce that goes with it, that was amazing! Then we moved on to the Sri Lankan salad which was light and refreshing. I didn’t get a picture of it unfortunately, when it came out we both dove in and couldn’t stop. For our entrees, hubby ordered kottu, if you try one thing here. that is the one. I haven’t ever had anything like it so I can’t really compare it to anything. but it is FANTASTIC! And as you can tell by my review. I stole a lot of his meal :)! I ordered lamb curry with lentils and spinach as well as eggplant. I have never had lamb curry and was a little worried. no need to be worried because it was so good! You know when you try something new for the first time and end up loving it? That was pretty much everything I tried there tonight. Lentils and spinach were great, the eggplant which is almost pickled? It has vinegar and sugar. was such a new taste to me I had to keep going back to it to try it again. Then we tried a dessert, I apologize because I didn’t get the name. It looked almost like a bread pudding, it’s made with egg, and coconut milk. It is genius! You go from spicy food(you get to pick the level of course) and when your mouth is on fire because you gave yourself way to much credit for your spicy heat tolerance… you HAVE to go with this dessert! It starts off with a sweet flavor and then you get the taste of sweet creamy coconut milk and spices. it was honestly amazing. I am typing this and wondering if I can trick my husband into going to the lunch buffet tomorrow so I can try all their other dishes… and another serving of the dessert. Don’t trust me… check it out for yourself! If you are new to this type of food, check out their lunch buffet so you can try everything and see what you prefer.
