This is a «baby» park being developed by Rosenberg. It appears it used to be a farm field, so there are few trees, and the ones that have been planted are small. Hopefully, Rosenberg will embark on an ambitious plan to plant lots more trees, or this park will not really be usable in the hot summer months — no shade. That being said, the park is lovely, with crushed gravel hiking/biking trails, a clean bathroom at the parking lot, and an interesting garden being developed by Master Naturalists that showcases native plants. The Master Naturalists are, also, developing a native grassland demonstration area. There is a floating dock in one area, and there were loads of turtles basking. I believe there is an alligator nesting on the island, as I heard alligator noises, but I didn’t see one. Walk over to the National Guard Armory. There is an old tank parked out front, and around the back, there are lots of military Humvees, etc. The park is very close to Hwy 59, easy to find.
