New? not really! Came here thinking that this restaurant was new in the area but when I asked our server I was told that they’ve been around at this location for 2 years? Really, I’ve been hiding under a rock for too long and must explore my surroundings better and more often… Foothills Blvd is right underneath my nose and is only a 7-min drive from my home. They close at 3:00p and reopen again at 5:00p for dinner. I tried their beef teriyaki and came with the standard: bowl of Miso soup, rice(sprinkled with sesame seed), green salad and 4 pieces of California Roll. Checked in Unilocal and got the vegetable tempura appetizer for free. Loved how crispy the batter was deep fried… delicious! On my entrée the only thing they could improve on was more dressing on the salad, please. It just tasted like plain greens on some parts because they skimped on the dressing. I have no complaints about everything else. Our server was nice and friendly. If you have a Groupon you can only use it during dinner. Lunch specials and Happy Hour are not included in the deal and I was not able to apply the Groupon for today’s lunch. That is what I get when one does not read and pay attention to the fine print. LoL! well, it gives us another chance to come back. Overall, nice experience. Daughter loved her shrimp tempura appetizer… that is her favorite no matter what Japanese restaurant we go to. Located on the corner of Foothills and Pleasant Grove on the same side as the Arco gas station. Lots of parking on a private lot.

Yum! Great food, good service, nice ambiance. The group I was with had vegetable tempura, gyoza, spicy chicken wonton ramen, and pork belly ramen. Everything was really yummy! The spicy ramen is decently spicy, but more of a lingering burn than a crazy hot bite. The ramen came in smaller servings than other ramen houses I’ve been to, but was fully loaded with noodles. The ramens each had bean sprouts, green onions, fish cake, and corn. We went on a Monday evening, and the restaurant was about half full. The sushi chefs seemed friendly, and our waitress was very prompt and helpful. Overall really good, but not quite as good as some of the dedicated ramen restaurants in sacramento. Definitely worth a try!

Another one of my favorite sushi restaurants! Whenever I dine here, I sit in front of Owner/Head Chef Song at the sushi bar. He has a natural instinct for creating dishes unique to your liking if you choose to go off menu.

This place is located in a good place with adequate parking. The restaurant doesn’t seem to ever be crazy busy so it’s nice to be able to walk in & get a table right away. There is a good selection of rolls and dishes based off of glancing at the menu. I didn’t get to order any specifics off the menu, but did get to enjoy specials during my visit. The fish was fresh & the food was presented very well. I’m not too fond of the sauces used on many of the dishes because there tends to be too much sauce which made the dishes too sweet. I like to be able to taste the fish & components that make up the roll or dish. Would definitely visit this place again!

Tried this place because Sushi-Mon was too packed. The food was ONPOINT!!! I tried the Tokyo Roll & Spicy Garlic Edamame, both were really good. Only downfall was, I was doing carryout, after I paid, the waitress told me if I would of dined in, I would of got 30% off the specialty rolls. If I would of been informed before I paid or if it was posted, I would have dined in & enjoyed more of the menu. Oh well, maybe next time, if I remember.

The worst sushi restaurant I have ever been to! I wish I could give negative stars. The wait supposed to be 5 minutes and waited over half an hour. Food took forever to get as well. Cucumber salad swimming in sauce when arrived. Tempura roll soggy when arrived. Best thing was the chicken teriyaki even if it was super sweet. Hard to even get a water refill in a half empty restaurant.

Foothills roll — Sautéed onions top this roll and that ruined everything. A gross combo. Matsuyama special roll — Overall way too sweet! Hamachi chef special — This was the most expensive and tasted the worst! Bad food plus unfriendly and unattentive waitress(Lauren) = barely two stars.

Just registered this Unilocal account to leave this review… Today I decided I would eat lunch out today, instead of in the café at work… I’ve heard decent things about this new Japanese fusion place within walking distance of work, but I’d never been there before. I googled the name, and ended up at their official website: To see what they had, I clicked the MENU link on their website, and it downloaded a PDF of their menu, and made my selection before even leaving work. When I get inside, I am sat at a table, and I say that I already know what I want. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Wonton Ramen. The ramen was good; nothing to brag about, but definitely not what you’d make at home out of the 20 cent packages. The wontons had good flavor, there was half of a boiled egg in it, along with the fishcake slice, noodles and some chopped up green onions. The broth was moderately spicy(I’m used to Thai-spicy, so it’s rare I’ll have something come out too spicy for my palette). When I was finished, the bill was brought to me, but the price didn’t match what I remembered seeing on their website’s menu. Thinking I may have looked at the wrong item, I downloaded the menu to my phone to verify. Yup, I was right; their website’s menu shows my dish as $ 7, but I was charged $ 8.50 in the restaurant. I mentioned the conflict in price to my waitress, and her response was that I should have checked their menu on Unilocal, because it’s more accurate than their own website. I informed her that their website is advertising a different price, and she apologized before walking away. It’s disappointing because this place is so close to where I work, and the ramen was good enough to have again, but I have no intentions of returning. I sure do miss the Phở place that used to be in this building! TL;DR: The pricing on their website is inaccurate, and they don’t care; they’ll charge what they want.

I like sushi. My JA wife(Japanese-American, for those who don’t know) is picky about sushi, having grown up with a Japanese born mom. I’ll start with the good. The quality of the food is good. It’s not the best, but not the worst. I’d rate the food four stars, because I’m generally an easy grader. So why two stars? The first time we drove here, they were closed for a private party. I’m not a big fan of restaurants not being open during the hours they say they are. But I can understand a special occasion. Tonight, we finally got to actually eat here. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was a faint smell of urine pervading the restaurant. I can only hope it was ammonia cleaner, but it was not pleasant. Overall, the restaurant did not feel clean. The second thing I noticed was that auditorily, there was some danceable R&B stereo music competing with a program about ISIS on the TV with the volume turned up. The cacophony of sounds was disturbing, but not as disturbing as the video of bombing and dead bodies on two large screen TV’s. So that leaves us with Food– 4 stars, Atmosphere– 1 star. That averages out to 2 ½ stars. For the prices, I would expect much better, so final rating is 2 stars.

I am so glad I decided to try out Matsuyama instead of my usual Sushi Mon. Don’t get me wrong I love sushi mon but Matsuyama was like a breath of fresh air. It’s not just your average sushi place! We got the tostadas(super yummy), So Cool which was absolutely fantastic(my personal favorite), the baked dragon roll(I’ll probably ask for light sauce next time but overall great flavors and torched), and my mom got the oyster lover. I personally don’t like oysters but she said they were great! They have sea urchin in them. Our sushi chef Omar made some awesome recommendations and is so incredibly talented. You can taste the passion in his food One other great thing about the food was that the presentation was always perfect. They are so good at balancing he flavors and the food isn’t too filling so your dying after!

Great sushi! If there’s a bad roll on the menu, I haven’t found it yet… Report card: Baked Lobster: A++ Fred Couples: A+ Philly 2: A Salmon Tempura: A The service, as has been noted, is touch & go. No attitudes or ego’s amongst the bunch, but possibly a lack of training and communication w/the wait staff. Give em a year & they will be a well-oiled machine I believe… The Roseville SushiWar is in full effect… the boyz across the way at Sushi Mon better believe they have quickly become the #2 sushi joint in the shopping center!

I came here during mid-lunch(2−3pm) weekday time with my friend to use my groupon :) It was not really busy around this time, there were plenty of seating available. As for appetizers, we started out by ordering mixing tempura. I really love tempura, and it was really good, not heavily breaded. We also ordered spicy edamame, which was really flavorful. For our entrée portion, I was really craving to order a bento, and apparently so was my friend both so we both ordered bentos. I ordered the salmon teriyaki(dinner) bento, because the groupon does not allow lunch specials/specials in general. I was pleased that the salmon came out perfectly and it was a treat to eat. My friend ordered the beef teriyaki bento, and he also enjoyed his meal. I believe the only issue we had going here was even though it was a non-busy time, the server really didn’t check on us that often, as it took about 15 – 20 minutes just to get a take-out box. Parking on the other hand is really easy to attain, as they have their own lot, it is also located right by a plaza.

Service was excellent! Ambience was quiet and relaxing. I love the Reggae songs they were playing. Decorations is at point & very pretty. Food was delicious!!! I esp love their Sea Steak poke salad. Love how the ahi tuna is slightly seared and sauce is yummy. My son loved their dinner bento 3 items. We will definitely come back. Superb food with awesome prices.

4.25 Stars I have been here many times now and have decided an increase in Stars was due. Service is hit and miss here sometimes food arrives quickly and other times slowly. Sometimes the servers are attentive and sometimes you have to wait ten minutes to get your check. Food is good overall. Matsuyama has consistently had great tempura on every visit. Sushi rolls are on the smaller side with good flavor in the rolls we like. Our favorite rolls are the Tempura Calamari $ 7, Lion King $ 9?, Foothills $ 9? and the Roseville also in the $ 9 range. The best feature at Matsuyama is the Mon-Wed 30% off all sushi, this offer makes Matsuyama crazy affordable. The bad things include the above mentioned special is no longer written anywhere to be seen and there is still no printed happy hour menu. In summary if you are craving some good sushi but your on a budget, go check out Matsuyama MON-WED. If you were late and it is already Thurs-Sun buy the Groupon!

Check in through Unilocal and get any appetizer(except oysters) for free! Now that’s a deal! We came for lunch. I ordered the Nigiri/roll lunch, my dining partner ordered the CA roll/mixed tempura lunch. Since I checked in on Unilocal,I took advantage of the free appetizer offer. We ordered the pan fried gyoza. When our food came, I was impressed with the presentation of the sushi. It was really good and fresh. Now, my partner’s food on the other hand was not so good. The tempura was overcooked. The gyoza appetizer was okay. Her CA roll was decent. Miso soup was below average, IMO. The salad dressing for the green salad was mediocre, at best. I will probably come back for maybe just sushi. The sushi alone would be highly worthy. By looking at the Unilocal photos, you can see that the sushi chefs have an artistic flair to their dishes. Plus, the sushi chefs and staff are very friendly and personable. I’m giving them three stars due to the food from the kitchen being subpar, I’ll update if need be.

I came in here with my sisters here. I gave this place two tries. And I don’t think I will be coming back here for more. Our waitress Taylor was unfriendly and we had to keep on asking for sugar which she keeps on forgetting to bring. And in the end she finally brought it with the unhappy face. It seems like we were the last customers before her shift was over. So she was just trying to hurry up and leave. She left before we were done. Our new waitress Serafina very sweet and helpful. She needs raise!) Anyways about the food. For appetizers we ordered Yellow tail collar(grilled yellow tail cheek with salt and poet and ponzu). Which was free appetizer with every purchase per table. And it was really good. Probably the only thing that I really enjoyed here. Another appetizer we ordered was Shrimp Tempura which was good. For main dish ordered ramen soup(tasted prepackaged soup) and I think you can make better soup at home then this one. Also ordered lunch special #2 One salmon sushi and another tuna. Both were kind of dry and didn’t taste right. It came with Miso soup and house salad. Miao soup was super blend. Salad amazingly was pretty good except too much sweet dressing.
