For the neighborhood this is a great place for lunch. They focus on service and food and it shows. The prices are reasonable as well.

First time there. Great cheesesteaks and cheese fries. Staff are super helpful and friendly. Will definitely go there again.

The reason they get 4 and not three was good customer service! The food was not great, sandwich was ok the bread was great but the meat was flavorless needed a lot of salt and pepper to make the flavor come out.

The main reason for the 4 stars here is because they are super fast. You order and they guy, I believe he was the owner, tells you 5 minutes. I was thinking to myself. no way… I take a seat and watch a little ESPN playing on the television there and next thing I know, my name is being called. Being that I was on lunch, I always appreciate when a business is really efficient. It gives me more time to eat and savor their food. Speaking of food, I ordered the Western cheesesteak. Wasn’t too impressed with the sandwich or flavor. The bread was good quality but probably would’ve been better if it was heated or grilled. The Western contained your usual diced steak, grilled onions, peppers, bbq sauce, bacon and cheese. The bacon was crisp which was good but they cheesesteak had way too much bbq sauce. I like bbq sauce but this was just too much. Also the bbq sauce tasted like ketchup which didn’t make it any better. The lack of cheese on the sandwich was also disappointing. When I think of cheesesteaks, I think of it being cheesy. I got a small piece of cheese that was barely melted. I also ordered curly fries which were good and crispy. I was really hoping it would be better but I will give this place another chance and see if their other cheesesteaks or hoagies might be better. They do have some options that I would still like to try. I will update my review after my next visit.

If you try this place I highly recommend ordering the king of philly, if you don’t you will feel skimped… we learned this by our first visit. We wish they would make the regular cheesesteaks a little bigger, other than that really good food!

I come here a lot. The same gentleman is always working here and he is really nice. The food is always fresh to order and great. They also have a stamp card and give out coupons on the receipts. Plus on Tuesdays it’s double stamp days in which you can earn a free 10″. If you are in the mood for a cheese steak this place is for you. Highly recommended.

I’ve been craving a cheese steak sandwich for a while. It was my idea to get cheese steak for lunch and then head to the mall for some festive chaos. Sandwich sizes are 7″, 10″ and 15″. They offer a classic cheese steak(with or without onion and/or bell pepper). There are also variations on the classic style, a vegetarian sandwich option(which was given serious consideration for my lunch but I came here for a cheese steak), salads, and sides including fries, onion rings, chips, and wings. Now that I’ve been to this shop, there are a few things I would change on my next order. First, skip the o’rings and/or fries. There’s really no need when you’re gorging on a 10″ sandwich. Second, opt for the King of the Philly sandwich. This option includes more meat in the 10″ sandwich. The standard sandwich is a bit deceiving. At first it appears to be overflowing with its fillings. Actually, they’ve made a slice in the roll leaving the ends uncut and closed. The meat and goodies are crammed into this bread slot. There’s actually more bread than there appears. Boosting the filling means you’ll have enough filling for all bites and not left with dry bread chunks on each end. I would like to see that bread doused or dipped first into a beef au jus before being filled. The interior needs some scrubbing. There were some splatters the wall in the dining area that weren’t freshly splattered. There’s a general feeling that the dining area is slightly unkempt. The interior isn’t old or necessarily dated(which would be totally fine), it just needed a really good wipe down. I’m glad we came to satisfy my craving.

This was a hard one to rate because of a few mistakes. The quality of the meat was top notch, but the execution was flawed. I ordered the 10″ Philly cheesesteak naked with peppers on the side. I knew something was a little off when it arrived. Where was the cheese? The bread appeared and felt moist. Well the cheese was melted separately inside the bread as if it was microwaved instead of melting it on top of the meat as it was on the flat-top cooking or cooked and chopped with the meat as it cooked. It was flavorless and the bread started to shrink, wrinkle, and get harder the longer it sat. This is indicative it was microwaved too long and perhaps inside of or wrapped inside plastic. Then the quality prepared steak was placed on top. It’s too bad because critical mistakes were made and this could’ve been a decent sandwich. Is this the only store in the chain that does this and did management here decide this practice will expedite preparation time sacrificing quality?

Came here after seeing a fellow Unilocaler visited the place. It was ok. Just ok. Not bad. I hope I hit them on a off day. Because people seem to like it. Staff was friendly and greet you right away. Service was fast. Place is clean, small what you expect for a sandwich shop. You enter and there are pictures of people taking a challenge to eat two 15 inch subs in less than an hour. I figured the sandwiches would be huge. So I ordered a 10 inch. I didn’t figure I could finish a 15 inch. Well I had no problem finishing a 10 inch. Not as much meat as I thought I would get. Flavor was good and bread was soft and flavorful. Seasoning was ok. Not to many onions, mushrooms, and or chilies. A little light on the spicy chilies. Most places load them on and you feel the heat. I guess I have had some good philli cheesesteaks compared to this place. Menu is simple. Place wasn’t full just a couple there while I was there. So give it a try and see what you think.

I came with my family the day after Thanksgiving, because my aunt and uncle rave about this place. And my aunt is a serious foodie, so I take her seriously! Although I’m not a cheese steak expert, so I have very little to compare this to, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The cheese steak had excellent flavor. Whatever cheese they use, it was a perfect match with the sandwich. I opted for a mix of the sweet and spicy peppers, and loved the flavor that the combination added to the sandwich. Everyone else in the party enjoyed their food– I think we all got variations on the same cheese steak. The curly fries were good. The atmosphere is adequate, nothing amazing. The cashier was a little annoying, overly friendly, which mostly irritates people in my family. But the food was so spectacular that it earned them a 5 star rating alone.

Don’t go here if you’ve actually had a real Philly cheesesteak. It will pale in comparison. They skimp on the meat, it’s too salty and most sad, they actually forgot to make mine with cheese. I’m only giving it a second star because my kids liked the curly fries. (And as a previous reviewer stated, side salad was a total joke.)

Hardly any meat, mushy fries, and a very sad $ 3 side salad. The cheesesteak itself isn’t horrible but you could eat the meat in about 2 bites. The bread is soft but overall not impressed… go to the cheesesteak grille off Sierra college instead.

First time at The Cheese Steak Shop. Very clean, very nice staff. My husband had The King of Philly sandwich, a good amount of food at a great price. We will be back again.

This place has the best Philly Cheese Steak I have eaten in the Sacramento area. The staff is very friendly and always meet you with a smile. I also love their onion rings they are battered fried which makes them the best. You will get full when you eat there. This place is very neat and clean. A great place to take the family for an evening meal.

Love this place! My family became addicted to Cheesesteak when we first bought it at the Berkeley location. It’s far enough away that it’s still a special treat. I love the steak fries here and the employees are always super nice. If you don’t know what to get, just stick with the classics. They have salads as well if you’re into that thing

This was my first time here and it was delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had a really good cheesesteak till now. My only regret is not getting a bigger sandwich. The peppers were a nice touch, added a little sweet and spice, the bread was nice and soft and the meat was seasoned perfectly!

For a chain restaurant you could do much worse. They have all the fixings to make a proper cheesesteak(wiz, onions and Amoroso Rolls) but my friend ordered pickup for me and he chose peppers, jalapeño, and provolone. Good meat to bread ratio and pretty delicious. Again, you could do much worse

One of the absolute best cheesesteak sammiches I’ve had… in many may moons(maybe in my life)! I almost don’t even know what to say. Especially when one of these bad boys is parked on the table in front of me, or more appropriately in my hands and another piece(let’s call it a bite) nestled in my face. It is a flood of deliciousness, cheese, bread, meat, onions, peppers, and completely mouth watering. I will speak specifically of this location for a moment, but the owner is a super guy, I’ve caught his name a few times, but I am really bad with names. Let me just say I can’t give you his name but take my word for it he is a gentleman, incredibly polite and kind, and he remembers his customers(as good owners do). The staff is equally polite and generous and make it equally easy to return. Back to food: some of the most authentic cheesesteak sammiches ever. Their blend of peppers are proprietary to the chain, but they do this sammich right. The peppers, onions, and everything are all chopped up into the meat(now that may be the norm, I am not sure, but that is how we order it and it is consistently delivered that way). The cheese can also be chopped into the mix or placed on top and melted onto the bread by way of the steaming hot mix. This thing is delectable and savory, delicious awesomeness in each bite. They have an assortment of ways they do their Philly’s, but(being a bit of a purest about some things) I always stick with the King of Philly; that being said check the menu board and pick what suits you. In addition to the savors and flavors it is all available in several sizes to make your appetite as happy as you want it to be. They offer many sides, but in all honesty the sammich is always so filling for me, I can never find the room. I would also like to say, thank you, thank you, thank you, they aren’t attempting to pass off squeezy canned fake nacho cheese on these bad boys, as an appropriate remedy to the meal, that would be horrible; they use the real deal and it is, if i didn’t already make it clear, so incredibly good. Lastly, or maybe I just ran out of things to say, they have the King of Philly Board; their own local contestador(contest and conquistador, I made it up) of a whole lot of food I couldn’t even begin to think of, simply because it would feed me for a week. Wrapping this up: look I may bot be from Philly, so maybe I can’t speak to authenticity, but I really don’t care; if I ever make it to Philly and it isn’t as good as they do it here, I will never be back(to Philly)!

Yes, they do have a few vegetarian options, and the one I tried(Original Vegetarian) was pretty darn good! Grilled peppers, mushrooms, onions, cheese, spinach, etc. Tasty and filling. Lots of sides to choose from. Curly Fries were solid. The staff was very friendly and the prices were reasonable. A nice alternative for fast-ish food!

Summary: Delicious cheesesteak, great curly fries, friendly staff, and affordable. Can’t go wrong. I got the King of Philly, used Unilocal for a free, small order of curly fries, and added a small soda for $ 11.48. The steak portion was excellent. Very tender, tasty, and toasty. The bread was nice and soft. The cheese was melted onto the bread(as mentioned in other reviews), but tasted great and worked well in the way it was delivered. The hot peppers and grilled onions accompanied the main ingredients very well. The curly fries are tasty and a good texture. This is a solid choice for a great cheesesteak.
