I just love serving our customers. We anchor our community, we are popular around town for reasons above and beyond our great service, and great food, but for the support we give all the local schools. Good old fashion service with old fashion prices.

I am finally posting after going in numerous times and having the same subpar experience. As another poster said, they don’t wear gloves or practice clean, safe food management. Today, the gentleman who waited on me was cleaning the tables with a chemical spray cleaner and came right over to make my soft serve cone without washing his hands. $ 5 wasted since I had to throw out my cone. Maybe I should have just said something, but I’m not that good at speaking up! Also, they are not very courteous here. Everytime you walk in you are treated like an annoyance– that they had to stop and wait on you. Plus, for the quality, the ice cream is overpriced. They are the only ice cream place in the neighborhood, so I guess that’s why they are popular.

There was a check in offer for a 3.99 all natural fruit smoothie. Both employees had no idea about it and said they don’t work with Unilocal and have never heard of it. They said they would have to call her mom/manager to verify the coupon. I was not feeling well, nor do I have the time to wait for businesses who function like this. Bottom line, if you have a check in offer/coupon listed, you honor it without question.

Just 2 stars. The food, ice cream and italian ice are all good, but the service is subpar at best. Upon entering, my friend and I were not greeted. I stood in front of the cashier for a good 90 seconds before she even acknowledged me. And it wasn’t like she was busy doing something else. Nope, just standing there talking to one of her coworkers. I had to say«hello?!» to get her attention. Not a good start. Normally, I would have gone somewhere else, but most places nearby were closed, so I stayed. I ordered a turkey sandwich and my friend ordered the lobster roll. We also tried the italian ice. Everything was yummy. Again, it’s the service that leaves something to be desired. Not sure if I’ll be returning.

Decent place. Got a medium vanilla soft serve on a reg cone with rainbow jimmies. Tastes yummy, you can never go wrong with soft serve, very consistent taste no matter where you go. Hubby got their rum raisin in a cup, he said it was okay, not great. Beware: the lady who helped us wasn’t wearing gloves! Initially my husband was going to try the ice cream sandwich, that they put together. She went into the cabinet grabbed a bag full of ice sandwich cookies and used her bare hands to take out two halves. Not to mention before that she was flipping onions on the grill with the same unwashed hands for a waiting client who ordered a hot dog w/onions, and handling money !! Once he saw her using her dirty hands to get the cookies to make the sandwich he stopped her right before she put the soft serve on the cookies, and got the rum raisin in a cup. When he changed his mind she took the two cookies and put it back in the bag she got them from and put the bag back in the cabinet. So needless to say, if you go here don’t get anything that requires someone to use their hands on the food you will be consuming.

This is a great little place offering a varied sandwich menu and, of course, ice cream. I went there for a hot dog and a frappé and both were very good. I’m particular about my grilled hot dogs, bun must be buttered and toasted, but the grill has to be «seasoned» with random ambient items. Like a good seaside dairy shack. It was good.

Worst soft serve I have ever had. there was something gummy about it– maybe the machine was off, I don’t know. Never again.

I went to Jimmies the other day and had a «homemade» meatball sub which was pretty good. The owner, who took my order and made my sub, was really nice. While Jimmies has an extensive & creative ice cream menu, I will probably return at one point to try their cheese steak. On a side note, I like how the owner of Jimmies appears to be a strong supporter of the community.

I visited Jimmies over the summer with a friend. We were on the hunt for local soft serve ice cream and this was a much nicer walk than the one to Frosty Freeze on American Legion Hwy. Cute little place– yes, very little. A nice selection of regular ice cream along with the typical vanilla/chocolate soft serve offerings. Since I LOVE soft serve, I was hoping for more of a variety, but I’ll take what I can get. No dips, either, but again, I’ll take what I can get! The service is great– the staff is super nice. I need to go back to try the crepes! Will def be returning once the nice weather comes back!

We are new to the neighborhood and have quickly decided this is our go to spot for a lazy Sunday afternoon. The kids love and we love the friendly service and retro/kitsch atmosphere. Plus– their blizzards are amazing.

First time coming and I fell in love! Place was super clean, and it really had a ice cream parlor feel to it. The old school feel to it was nice. Great pictures on walls, and not to mention the very colorful menu. They have so many choices to choose from. Donna, the owner was super nice and sweet with the kiddos. Let’s not mention I remembered her from when I was a little girl. After so many years gone by she truly is the same person I knew then. She has done a nice job with this place. So, my choice of Ice cream was a coconut blizzard with Heath bar in it… sooooo Delish! My son had a frappé, banana Oreo… don’t ask! He loves it and Donna had no problem making it for him. I will definitely be going back! ;) oh and I found this place on Unilocal!Lol

This place reminds me of the neighborhood ice cream joint near where I grew up in Jackson Square(Weymouth, not Boston). It’s long gone now which is a shame, but this place still really retains the local, old-school flavor that’s nice to see. I haven’t spent much time in Roslindale(although some of my cousins and uncles grew up here), particularly since it got all fancy, but it seems like Jimmies is typical of Rozzie Square in general. They also have a pretty good selection of flavors and quite a few items on their menu including sandwiches.

I purchased two deal vouchers for this spot after I had one day driven by and my attention was grabbed by its interesting name. You see, I had a conversation not too long ago with a native Californian who had no idea that«jimmies» were just another word for chocolate sprinkles. *** 6⁄2013 visit *** Shortly after 6pm one Saturday, I had absolutely no trouble finding a parking spot on Corinth Street. In fact there were 3 different open spots on either side. Inside the small ice cream shop the counter was to the left, with six small round tables along the wall to the right with some seating. Additionally, a single standing round table was located just by the door with a pair of stools. As I had made my way into the store, I noticed the Veggie Pesto Crêpe $ 5.95 on the blackboard outside. Sounded yummy. Unfortunately their crêpe menu needs some updating as the apple crêpe is off the menu, so I instead went with the Elvis Crêpe(creamy peanut butter, freshly sliced banana, & Nutella) $ 5.95 and added a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a buck, thus surpassing my $ 10 voucher by $ 3 and change. The elder lady worked on my crepes, folding them with bare hands — since I had made no personal observations to the alternative, I’m going with the assumption that she had done so with clean hands. The younger lady continued to take orders and to handle the ice cream. Speaking of which, the ice cream bins were evidently Richardson’s ice cream, however, they were not individually marked. The flavors were, however, listed on the board up on the wall. Crepes were served simply with no additional sides. I took mine to go, so the scoop of ice cream was served in a covered cup in a separate bag. The crepes were tender yet bouncy. The filling sufficient. The veggies were cooked just right and of good sized chunks. They were both good. Be flexible when you come here — as they might not have what you want ie. the apples I inquired about, the chicken another party was interested in — and perhaps you’ll leave satisfied. In response to Antonio F.‘s observations, I din’t notice any odd smell this time, and the place wasn’t especially dirty. But the day of my visit wasn’t particularly hot either inside or out. *** 8⁄2013 visit *** Utterly bummed that crepes have been taken off the menu as of about a month ago — unfortunately, they weren’t popular enough. Too bad, because I liked them well enough and they were among the more interesting options. Their online menu has yet to be updated accordingly. No crepes, so I went with a lobster roll $ 11.99 real Maine lobster, served on a grilled roll, freshly prepared, lightly seasoned mayo with lettuce, served with chips or cole slaw(on menu, but on the wall it said chips AND cole slaw), the grilled veggie panini $ 6.95 fresh garden vegetables, blend of melted Swiss & cheddar cheese on a ciabatta roll served with cole slaw or chips, and a side of potato salad $ 2.50. In addition to Richardson’s ice cream, they sling Richie’s Classic Italian Slush. I also spied mention of a Kids Meal Deal $ 5.99 for a sandwich, drink and kiddie ice cream combo — not bad! 15 minutes, and I was out with my order. The lobster roll was long and thin and well toasted with perhaps a hot dog sized portion of dressed lobster meat enclosed in the roll. Not a destination item, but if you’re here and you feel like lobster, not a bad choice for the price. The veggie panini was actually pretty tasty, with a good mix of vegetables tucked between the chewy ciabatta. Both the cole slaw and potato salad were rather small in portion with the cole slaw served in something you might expect to find tartar sauce, and the potato salad presented in one of their kiddie ice cream styrofoam cups which hold perhaps 4 or 5 oz. Cole slaw was more of the vinegary creamy sort — too much mayo according to one DC. The potato salad was pretty basic. Neither were a close contender to my faves — KFC for cole slaw and Sam LaGrassa’s in terms of potato salad — but both were okay.

I’ve never ordered any food here, but I love the ice cream. The owners have clearly put their heart and soul into the place — with constant upgrades to the menu — with enormous portions of ice cream — and with a welcoming atmosphere. I like few things better than having a nice quick lunch and then stopping here for a great dessert. Just thinking of the place makes me want one of their huge scoops of black raspberry ice cream. Good thing they’re closed at 4:00AM – or I wouldn’t be able to resist temptation.

Oo La La! Crepes are here! Jimmies has the best sandwiches and lobster rolls, serves delicious Richardson’s ice cream and now… the long awaited crepes, The French crêpe making machine was finally connected to the new wiring and the owner has been practicing her crêpe making skills with results that are magnifique! Everything from the batter to the whipped cream is freshly homemade at the shop and they offer both savory and sweet options. The crêpe was tender and perfect! I had the nutella, but any day now, I’m stopping in for a savory option for lunch. I don’t remember the full menu for savory; turkey, ham, cheese. tomato; pretty much anything that can be folded into a crêpe. There is a whole wheat choice too. Very nice addition to casual dining options in Roslindale Square

Got a grilled cheese and ice cream cone. It was velveeta and wonder bread, wasn’t even cooked, I could take the slices off the sandwich intact. The ice cream was not homemade, it’s mid-premium ice cream in big buckets and they were out of the good flavors. The place is tiny and uncomfortable, the service is lunch lady slow, the food is from costco or something. These other reviewers must be friends with the owners because I’ve had better food in a high school cafeteria. I expected better from Roslindale, a place renowned for it’s finicky eaters.

Great place, great location. Did some talking with the woman behind the counter who told me they get their ice cream from elsewhere(can’t remember where). Delicious stuff. Their specialty sundaes are really tasty too.

Grade A all the way. 5 stars only for ice cream as i haven’t tried the savory offerings yet. They serve Richardson’s ice cream which automatically receives 3 stars right off the bat. The place is a bit cramped, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in charm. Graciously helped by the woman behind the counter. She was super patient, as i has trouble deciding amongst the great flavors listed. And the ice cream? TDF. To. Die. For. ’nuff said.

I would give them 5 stars if they weren’t out of everything that I asked for. But that being said, I really enjoyed Jimmies Ice Cream Café. The place is in a great little location in Roslindale. It was my first time through the area, and I was hungry so the sign for their Lobster Roll caught my attention. I go in to order, and they’re out of Lobster. Ok, I’m disappointed but I hang in there. I order a reubin paninni. They’re out of corned beef. Sigh. The guy behind the counter recommends a grilled chicken club, so I get that. I figure it’s probably the only thing they have. While he’s making it, he tells me that the place usually closes in October for the winter, and this year they’re staying open so they’re not really sure what to expect for business levels. As someone who eats ice cream year round, I applaud their decision. So I get the grilled chicken club, and it’s a pretty good sandwich. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary, but it’s tasty and satisfied my hunger. I decide to get some dessert — I ask for the Grapenut Custard flavor that’s on their menu board. Oh, they’re out of that too. In fact, the company doesn’t even make the flavor anymore. So I settle on the Turtle flavor. And it is oh my God extremely good ice cream. I’m not sure what brand this ice cream is, but I need to find out. It could be the best ice cream I’ve had in years. A message the owners of Jimmies Ice Cream Café: Your menu is written in chalk. It’s easy enough to update it daily. Can you make it accurate so I don’t have to ask what you happen to have in stock? But I’ll be back — your ice cream is worth the trip. And maybe you’ll even have some lobster.
