Completely overrated. Took my mom here for a special night out. The service was awful. They brought our appetizers before drinks. Then anchovies on Caesar salad when specifically asked for none. Dinner was just ok. The Maitre D was defensive and not accommodating. One and done.

Trattoria Diane is not just a trattoria, they serve all kinds of food including modern American and French inspired preparations. Seating was fairly easy to get on a weekday and we all ordered from the prix fixe menu($ 35 per person with a generous sized appetizer, entrée and dessert). The beet salad was really good and fresh. Seared duck in peach sauce over wild rice was cooked perfectly(didn’t like the wild rice, it was weird tasting but I don’t like wild rice in general). Dessert selection was excellent. Portions here are generous and you will not go home hungry. Service is also pleasant and friendly. Thumbs up.

One and done. Have lived in this town for 30 years and first time at Diane’s. The bakery/café is excellent but restaurant was just okay. Food good but not service.

This restaurant is like a well kept secret! I’ve lived ten minutes south of Roslyn for my entire life, frequent the restaurant scene there and never knew about Diane’s. Took my mom out on Sunday night. The restaurant was packed, so I would definitely make a reservation. Mussels, chopped salad, lamb shank and salmon were the dishes we ordered and every one was great. Especially the lamb, I rarely will eat lamb but it was just melt in your mouth delicious here! I would definitely recommend this restaurant, especially as a date night as well it has such a warm inviting atmosphere. I think I have found a new favorite in the area!

Tasteless food combined with unenthusiatic service. Upon entering the restaurant you are met by an extremely unfriendly maitre d, the hostess showed a little more enthusiasm. Our waiter was ok, but did not reflect that he wa happy to serve us. My wife had the clam and scallop appetizer in a shell, she thought it was bland, and too chewy. I had the Fritos misto, fried shrimp, calamari and scallops. It came with the blandest tomatoe sauce, served cold not hot. It was the pits. Our main course of whole Branzini. And veal Milanese lacked any flair. The only good part of the meal was dessert our coconut cake. We will not be returning here again, there are much better places to dine at this price.

Ahoy all you foodies– Dayboat– is back with Long Island’s best lobster rolls! Trattoria Diane introduces«DAYBOATONTHEDECK» a Summer Pop-Up In 2008, I remember the first time I had chowder and a lobster roll at the original«Day Boat“in the town of Roslyn. At that time, I told John Durkin, the owner chef, how much we loved this informal, seafood restaurant and its fabulous seafood. Unfortunately, after opening to unanimous raves, „Day Boat“ was destroyed in a disasterous fire shortly after its glorious opening. This summer, as if by magic, a new and exciting Day Boat arrived on the beautiful wooden deck between Diane’s Trattoria and Dianes Bakery. The new Day Boat is a Summer Pop Up brilliantly conceived by John Durkin and his team. I can honestly say that dining at the new Day Boat was a culinary highlight of a sensational summer. We arrived on an absolutely perfect Saturday evening and found the restaurant was jumping with diners of all ages. Seating is open air casual, with tables and chairs under brightly colored umbrellas . We were impressed with the attentive young staff who graciously welcomed us aboard the deck. The anticipation of having a Dayboat lobster roll after a 7 year absence was amazing. Leo, our attentive waiter, brought over a basket of rolls and parmesan cheese coated flat breads. The flat breads were off the chain delicious, We began our Day Boat feast with a large, bowl of Corn and Lobster chowder. The bowl was brimming with lobster chunks, and sweet corn. We then enjoyed an appetizer of fabulous baked clams filled with chopped clams, scallops and herbed breadcrumbs. Some of the best I have ever eaten. It was now time to enjoy Day Boat’s famed lobster roll andi it was everything we had longed for all these years. A large split roll generously filled with mouthwatering lobster. The lobster was soft, sweet and amazing, with a roll that melted in your mouth. Our plate was accompanied by thin cut shoe string fries with house made cole slaw. It just doesn’t get any better! In truth, the lobster roll tasted like more! After a brief respite, we relaxed, enjoyed the ambiance of this charming new venue while talking to some friends we hadn’t seen in years. Of course no meal at any of Diane’s culinary venues would be complete without Diane’s world famed desserts. We chose a spectacularly delicious three berry pie with a small scoop of banana ice cream, and an“over the top» melt in your mouth, delicious brownie with caramel ice cream. We reluctantly bid adieu to one of Long Island’s best culinary venues. Diane’s Trattoris, and their new Day Boat which offers fabulous sea food, excellent service, and a laid back, informal ambiance. Kudos to John and Diane for bringing back«Day Boat» to an appreiciative Long Island and tri-state audience. This is a restaurant you will fall in love with… Call for reservations, Valet parking. Trattorial Diane’restaurant and Day Boat an awesome combination!

came here last night with my bff for dinner. food was delicious, drinks were great, just omg the service was sooooooooooooooo slow. I mean okay we want to sit and talk, enjoy our drinks but taking like 20 minutes to come back to give us the check was annoying. this was at the end of the night so it’s not like they were really busy. if we had wanted dessert here well 20 minutes just to see if we wanted anything we were like forget it, because then what probably 20 minutes to bring it out? we just went to yolo after… also never even asked if we wanted another drink etc… I mean I don’t desperately need to drink, they are the ones missing out on money. anyway I really liked this place besides for the slow service. maybe we just had a bad waiter? whatever. would still come back just don’t expect to get out of here super fast lol.

I recently had an issue with service at Trattoria Diane. I discussed it with the manager, who promised to investigate and asked for my phone number so he could call me. Eight days have elapsed and I still haven’t received a call from the manager. This is not the way to treat guests. There are lots of good places to eat on the North Shore, where each guest’s patronage seems to be valued. From now on I’ll eat at them, but never again at Diane’s.

Cute enough for a quick salad. Not over the top with amazing flavors but good. The seating is a little strange and split up between floors. It does add some charm though. The staff were super friendly and attentive. We arrived just a few minutes before the counter was to close at 3:30 and they didn’t rush us at all which was nice. The desserts are fantastic and their iced hazelnut coffee is a favorite when I am in the area. It would easily get 4 stars.

Had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here. The food was offensively bad. Sad fritto misto – looked like garbage on a plate. Short ribs and mashed potatoes that tasted like airline fare. Stale, inedible profiteroles. A salad that the menu described as having an «almond vinaigrette» was served with walnuts. My dining companion is highly allergic to walnuts. When we complained, the waiter and the manager joined forces to try to convince us that it was our fault for having ordered it in the first place. Ridiculous. It was a Friday night and the dining room was full. For the life of me, I could not figure out why. Only on Long Island will people settle for this slop. The owners should be embarrassed.

Just had Thanksgiving dinner. Nothing special. Not festive at all. No extras on the table. No flowers. Food only fair. Raw scallops. Turkey plate better at the diner. Clogged toilet. Never again.

This was my first time dining at Diane’s trattoria. I have eaten at the bakery several times and taken out deserts. They were always very good. Last night the meal we had was very good. All four appetizers were tasty and exceeded our expectations. A special salad with ricotta salata was outstanding as was the grilled portobello mushroom over arugula. The chicken under a brick was cooked perfectly. And both the Branzino and halibut were equally delicious. The one pasta dish fettuchini bolognese was also delicious. The atmosphere and crowd were fun and upbeat. They had a small and manageable bar scene. And hey played great music too! I was quite surprised as I was expecting a blue hair scene. We shall return again soon!

Diane’s has been the go-to for first rate dinner for many years, but our last time out was a disappointment, and combined with a couple of other recent visits, I’m finding it has become adequate. The latest visit was a double-birthday, so there were 7 of us. Right off, they shoe-horned us into a table that would most likely have fit 4. Then the music they were playing was a little too urban NY& loud and didn’t go with the atmosphere. The waiter was curt(the adjective, not the proper noun) and disinterested, and I didn’t get the welcome feeling we’ve received in the past. I think the owners are getting a little lackadaisical in selecting the staff. The servants & the hosts seem young & inexperienced, and there didn’t seem to be a boss or supervisor around. As mentioned, the food has always been top notch, but of late the quality has ebbed. On this particular night, two of our party ordered the scallops, and both agreed they were bland, and sent them back for other dishes. My spaghetti and meatballs, however, were very good. One other thing: the portions at Diane’s have always been small, not just the fixed price meals on Sundays(our last visit), and that turns me off. I think my wife & I

Has to be one of the most overrated restaurants on Long Island. Couldn’t help but notice the 2 most recent 5 star ratings are from Unilocal members with 2 or less reviews? Hmmmm… Comfort food was good. Tuscan pot roast was tasty. Brick(?) chicken arrived completely pink, way undercooked and horribly fatty. It should have NEVER left the kitchen. Appetizers(arrugola salad and grilled portobello mushroom) were plain and dull. The only creative flavors were in dessert. Beyond that, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area who enjoy innovating with fresh, seasonal ingredients and know how to cook. This reminded me of something a little better than diner food. And to the waitstaff, if a diner asks you the price for a glass of wine, find out if you don’t know it. I couldn’t be bothered bringing the difference in the check to your attention so it came out of your tip.

Trattoria Diane started as a bakery in the Roslyn Village, then grew into a restaurant next door. After a holiday in Rome, the creators of Diane’s decided to model the menu after what they experienced there. All of the entrée’s looked good that were coming in and through the main dining room. Especially the duck. We had fish, green beens, caesar salad, and a butternut squash ravioli with butter, sage and ameratti. Nothing not to like. The fruit tart with ice cream was delicious. the ice cream was a bit to small on the side. less than a table spoon, and it wasn’t a mistake… who knows why — perhaps they prefer it that way themselves. or they consider the ice cream something of a rare object. maybe it’s homemade. but it tasted average. just tasted. more like a taste sample for the ice cream. Everything was great. just don’t go for the ala mode. it will leave you confused. The waiters were all attentive and friendly — always refilling water and coming by. Reservations are needed unless you go early or later than 6 – 9.
