Cheap and great food. The hotdogs are to die for and the gravy fries are filling. They only take cash, but for $ 7 you can eat enough to be full for the rest of the day.

This place is great. Don’t forget though, it’s cash only. I once forgot that, and ordered and then quickly realized that I was a couple bucks short and the staff threw a free order of fries on my tray anyway. The service is the friendliest around.

The Red Caboose is my kind of place. It is a very simple mom and pop place with no frills, tasty inexpensive food, and more importantly, a soft spot in the hearts and memoires of the people who patronize it. The menu is simple: hotdogs, burgers, kielbasa, hot sausage, fries, along with toppings like chili, kraut, and cheese. It’s not gourmet, but it is tasty and very inexpensive. The food is always hot and fresh due to the volume of customers. The dogs are flying off the griddle, and not withering away on some roller in a convenience store. There is always a line out the door, but it moves fairly quickly, and yes, it is cash only. There are picnic tables outside. Or, if you are like me and don’t like dining al fresco, you can eat in your car. The Red Caboose is one of those places where you went as a kid, and now you bring your kids there. And, is there anything more comforting than a hotdog, fries, and Coke? I think that is the biggest appeal of this place. It makes you feel like a kid again, when bills didn’t matter and you had all the time in the world. These places are to be cherished, and more importantly, patronized. Give the mom and pop places your money instead of the monolithic and sterile cookie-cutter corporations.

This is a very good restaurant to go to in the summer and sure as hell is better than McDonald’s.I know the owners of this place and have been coming here for years. Always have had great service and always love coming here.

I don’t know why this place is awesome, it’s just a hot dog for heavens sake, but is the best little joint around. Friendly staff, hot food, generous portions and CHEAP! Always long lines but don’t let that deter ya cause these guys keep it moving. Put this place on your bucket list!

I haven’t really ever understood why this spot is so popular around this area, but it is… Cheap hotdog and hamburger joint pretty much sums it up. Last Saturday I stopped for a hot sausage after not having eaten there for a few years. My meal was inexpensive at $ 2.25 I believe? Anyway, it was pretty disappointing. Extremely burnt to the point of ruining the flavor and dry. You get what you pay for is my takeaway.

Love love love this place family owned hot dog shop on RT51south. The best dogs and fries around they also have hotsausage, hamburgers, chili or cheese fries are to die for. You can get two hotdogs chili cheese fries drink for six bucks and some of the most friendliest owners ever. I have been here when there was over 50 people in line took no more than 15 – 20 minutes to get food. i’ve always wanted to own a hotdog shop this is the one I would have if I owned one would change nothing.

Best place ever. I always get kielbasa with fries and gravy on the side. Cheap and delicious. Might have a bit of a wait on warm summer days as line is out the door.

Great hot dogs, burgers, and fries. Don’t mess with buying drinks, just have your cash ready, pay for your boxes of food, then get the heck out of there because they’re so busy you can barely move. Worth it for the taste, though. One of a kind experience. Takes me back to the days when I’d travel and enjoy traditional griddled meals from roadside diners. The staff is always friendly — they’re always nice and courteous.

I love this place. I work nearby and we send a guy to pick up lunch for four of us and it is not only amazing, it’s less than twenty bucks! The chilli cheese dogs are the best around and the chilli cheese fries can not be beat.

To me, Red Caboose has some of the most delicious dogs you can get. You’ve gotta get there early because at lunch time, the line is right out the lot. It’s exactly what it says it is, a red caboose car from a railroad converted into a hot dog stand. Delicious and cheap, you can watch your food being grilled. Get the addicting cheese fries as well and a drink. You can’t go wrong here.

I like these kind of old places. I’d rather go here than Mcdonalds any day. You can’t beat the price, and their food is pretty good. My only complaint is that they’re not open long enough(only 10 – 4), so I don’t get a chance to make it there very much because I’m usually working when they’re open.

I can’t believe I will be the first to write about this legend! The Red Caboose has been around in the Mon Valley for decades. I first went when I was young and I have heard stories of my parents going there so it’s definitely a legend. I believe this was featured on one of the Food Network shows such as Drive ins, Diners, and Dives in recent years. The building is an old Red Caboose, but don’t let it fool you… They make delicious hot dogs, with any and all fixings you could want. Chili, cheese, you get the picture. They also cook burgers and kielbasa along with fries. They recently opened an ice cream shop next to the caboose. Don’t be intimidated if the line is out the door and into the parking lot, the serve is FAST and Friendly, they pump your order out in seconds, probably as fast as you can get your cash out of your pocket. Speaking of cash, they don’t accept plastic, cash only! Picnic tables are located outside for seating, there is no indoor seating. If you are traveling between Pittsburgh and Uniontown be sure to pull over and try it for yourself. You will be glad you did.
