Have they gone out of business? I use them every year for holiday gifts and the numbers I have aren’t working.

Stuck with 2 Half Off Depot vouchers since the business won’t return phone calls or emails.

I purchased vouchers for baking classes on Half Off Depot. When I called to book the class, the number was out of service. I contacted HOD requesting a credit to my account(apparently they don’t give refunds, even if the business is closed), and I am crossing my fingers that I can get back the $ 105 I paid for classes at Lulu’s. Wish I could give them a negative one star…

My daughter treated me to a 3 hour pastry class with her in April. We learned a lot and were quite impressed with the owner/baker. It was not what I would consider a class for beginners — which was fine for us. After the class I purchased reservations for the 2 of us to take a 3 hour French pastry class in December. Today we pulled up to the door, and the business was gone. To make matters worse, I purchased these 2 class reservations through . Never again for Half Off Depot either! They do not refund but apparently only give a credit up to 60 days. Give me a break!

Well let’s just say that the reputation is apparently quite earned. I stopped in not having seen the Unilocal reviews first. I retrospect, this was my fault and I should have seen the writing on the wall. Avoid. Not worth it.

I bought a Groupon deal and took two classes here. The classes I really wanted were booked past the point that my voucher expired, so I had to sign up for ones I wasn’t particularly interested in. If I’d been able to tell from the website that certain classes were booked solid, I wouldn’t have wasted my money on the Groupon. The teachers were nice enough, but we basically followed a recipe– nothing I couldn’t have done at home. We split into groups, which would have been fine if it weren’t for the fact that the groups were so large it was almost comical– 6 people to mix eggs and sugar together? I agree with another reviewer that the place was a little chaotic; it’s a working bakery, so it felt a bit like trying to cook in someone else’s kitchen. If they’re going to teach classes, I think they should consider having smaller classes or a very different setup that’s more student-friendly. Perhaps if I were brand new to cooking, I would have enjoyed my classes more, but as it stands they weren’t a wise use of money or time(three hours long each). ETA: those of you who have lost money, as Lulu’s appears to have closed– try cakescandyandmore dot com. I’m pretty sure that’s the owner of Lulu’s. I don’t know how helpful she’ll be, but there you have it.

Bought 2 vouchers for baking class from Groupon for ½ price around March couldn’t book a class till Dec. Evidently all the class is booked. Well when time comes for my baking class, didn’t know this place is a mess. 8 people show up, Lucky it was 8. We were suppose to have more people coming but they did not show up. We had to divide to group of 2 because there were only 2 mixer in the kitchen. All the ingredients was all over the place we have to find it ourself. She didn’t really teach us, she gave us the recipes and we just follow. She said she is here to assist. Well in that case I could have done it with . It has video to teach and is free. What a ripe off!!! After we finished with the cakes, there was nothing for us to take home with. What kind of baking store with no box to take our cakes home. At less tell us to bring container when we book the class. Very disappointed with this place. I will not recommend anyone to go to this place. If the kitchen is a place. I doubt the cakes are good to order.

I purchased a voucher from KGBDeals for a class and tried to set a date for the class by calling the store. The woman who answered the phone was apparently having a bad day and told me quickly that they were booked solid. To verify I sent an email through their website to be sure. No response. As far as I’m concerned if you can’t be professional I could care less what your product tastes like.

I spent $ 100(including tip) for a birthday cake for my daughter. The cake was decorated nicely, but it was lopsided. Upon picking it up there was a black smudge in a very obvious place on the white fondant. And the fondant decorative circles fell off so easily as if they weren’t reinforced with any sort of icing underneath. By the next morning, the fondant was cracking in many places. but the most frustrating was that the cake wasn’t at all what I had ordered. I had confirmed my order via phone and in email and there was nothing about the cake itself that was what I ordered. I sent a detailed email to the owner/baker explaining my disappointment. She did try to call me back. Once. but when I left her a message returning my call she never tried again. Felt like a token gesture. She didn’t even respond to any part of my email. I would never order from this bakery or recommend to someone else.

On the cupcake hunt, yet again… So, I stopped by Lulu’s the other day to try them out. I heard about Lulu’s from a friend, and while wholesale and wedding cakes are their main thing(they actually sell a number of cakes to Café Intermezzo…), they still also have a retail aspect to their storefront where you can walk in and enjoy a nice treat. Because retail sales aren’t their main thing, they didn’t necessarily have a huge assortment of cupcakes(I think maybe 5 or 6 flavors), but what I tried was really delicious. Simple selections, but done well – and sometimes, that really hits the spot when you’re on the hunt for a solid cupcake. My recommendation: strawberry… best one I’ve found so far in Atlanta. Moist cake, not too pink and potent, but subtle, rich and still full of that fresh, strawberry flavor you know and love. Icing abounds, probably equaling the size of the actual cake, so prepare that sweet tooth for a major influx of creamy sweetness. I have at another time sampled a few other of their flavors – including the caramel, chocolate and red velvet – but strawberry is, hands down, my favorite. And only $ 2 per cupcake… which is a plus!(Not sure how the wedding cake prices fare…) They do offer a few other pastries that I did not try, but the chef and owner, who was trained in the pastry arts at a culinary school in NYC, seems to maintain a high standard and expectation of freshness for her products – so I doubt you would be disappointed.
