My husband & I have been going to Dr. Miller for 8 years. In the beginning, he was a really nice energetic guy who seemed to really care about his patients overall health and well being. The problem we have seen with him in the last few years is his enthusiasm and caring attitude for his patients seems to have diminished. We are out of town and it is now a 6-hour drive to Roswell, but decided to stay with him because of his history of familiarity with our medical history. Recently, I had an office appointment for a physical. I requested a particular lab to be done since, I had this done at another doctor’s office and the results were«really high». He told me that if the results were high that he would only suggest that I take a daily aspirin. Now, the office called to say that he wanted to see me in the office for a consult & the person calling would not give my results over the phone. I already knew that it could be out of the normal range as I had previous results on the same test that was elevated. Basically, he wanted me to drive 6 hours each way & pay my $ 20 copay… Only to be told that I needed to make an appointment with a «cardiologist». My previous physician’s office would have done an on the phone referral and not asked for an office visit. I asked the girl to fax me the results and she told me that I would have to join their online program, and transferred me over to the person who does this. I was asked for my credit card info and told that I would be charged $ 40 annually for this service. I told her to transfer me to the office manager. I told the office manager that I wanted a copy of my lab results mailed to me, since the«Patient’s Bill of Rights» said that I have the right to my records. She told me that since I did not want to pay $ 40 for their«online service» that … I would have to mail them … a «self addressed stamped envelope» to get my results. They did not want to print the report and spend 44 cents for a stamp. How would you feel if your doctor’s office acted that way? Things may have changed since his group has two brand new office buildings and have added additional equipment and overhead. I guess physicians are in business to make a profit for their company like any other normal business does.
