AAMCO Transmissions

I had several things wrong with my car, including foremost a problem with my transmission. The check engine light and power train light have been on for several months and the car jerks when it changes gears. Driving has been no fun with as much stop and go traffic we deal with in the Austin area. I chose AAMCO in Round Rock for several reasons, including they have been around a really long time. I called and spoke to Daniel and he let me bring in the car right away. They thought they had it fixed a couple of times but it ended up being a couple of things wrong with my transmission. They worked to fix my parts if necessary and helped me keep the costs reasonable. Mainly, they did not give up. They worked diligently until it was highway ready. I went on a road trip today and it was really great. Like having a new car again. Thank you Daniel and the staff at Aamco. zoom, zoom.

Took my car to get looked at today at 1230 due to some shaking and not hitting the power it was supposed to. I work next door so I thought I would give them a shot. The guy in the front office was very helpful and called me 30 min later with a quote & told me they could have my car to me by the time I got off at 430pm that same day. Sure enough it’s 3pm now and I got my car back running good again in just under 2 hours :) thanks for the help and reasonable/​affordable quote!

What a great experience I had here!
I took my car in for a power steering pump. I have an extended warranty, so James, the service manager, had to communicate with the company regarding parts and labor. Although the warranty company is very difficult and didn’t want to pay for anything, James was persistent and spent a considerable amount of time dealing with them so that I had to pay as little as possible. James is personable, very helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you AAMCO and James! I will definitely be back!

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a long time. Took my car here twice and now have a completely ridiculous bill to show for it. The first time I went in, I had no idea what I was doing and basically allowed them to do what they recommended (stupid on my part). They were decent about updating me on the quote, however each time they called, there seemed to be some new «terrible» issue that required «immediate attention» (2004 Volkswagen in decent shape, doubt half of the fixes were necessary).
The worst part was, I needed my car back by the following afternoon for a meeting, which they assured me wouldn’t be an issue. I called the next day around noon, and they said it would just be a couple of more hours and they’d give me a call. 4:30 arrives and still nothing, so I called the shop to find out that I’d have to pick it up the next morning. Needless to say, I missed my meeting. To be honest, a shop that makes a timed guarantee but doesn’t follow up with the customer when they can’t follow-​through is a crap business by my books.
Ended up having another issues about 6 months later, and due to time restraints and lack of options, I took my car back to them for a diagnostic (once again, stupid on my part). They told me that it was a problem with one of my sensors and that it would be around $ 450 to fix. I let them proceed. They then called back and told me that my alternator also needed replaced and that it would be around $ 650. By this point, I started to realize that I was being taken for a ride again and went in to speak with them. Mickey told me that the reason for the high price was because alternators run around $ 200-​$ 300, and said that he had looked everywhere for the best deal, and that the price was even around $ 300 at O’Reillys. I decided to find an alternative solution, and as soon as I got home I looked at O’Reilly’s alternator prices online. Wouldn’t ya know it. not a single one for my type of car was over $ 200. meaning Mickey had blatantly lied to me. I ended up having my neighbor take care of it (bought the alternator myself for around $ 125), and it took him a little under an hour which cost me $ 60 in labor.
Conclusion: This Aamco is just another scammy mechanic shop with a scammy salesman for a manager. Don’t make the same mistakes that I did.

I have to say, I own a Lexus and my driver side AC wasn’t blowing cold air. So I took it to the Lexus dealership and they told me all these things needed to be fixed at a cost of $ 1800…that’s after my extended warranty coverage!!! $ 250 later I took my car to Mickey, and $ 58 later, I have cold air! He was honest, fast, and trustworthy.
I love this place and have them on speed dial!

Shady across the board. Mickey quoted me $ 825 for a new fuel pump on a 2001 Chrysler Sebring. I inquired about financing and was informed I had to put 30% down, pay $ 200 for them to install a GPS device and sign the title over to them. So if I am late on one payment they take ownership of the vehicle.
I called Beach Auto which I should have went with from the start and quoted me $ 525 installed. He also did me the courtesy of explaining the reason it is a little pricey is because the fuel pump is located in the gas tank.
I call Aamco again and let them know I will pass on their greed and what do you know they will now price match. So first you try and overcharge me then you will price match so automatically that makes me skeptical about their work and ethics. Did they not want me to take it elsewhere in fear I would find out the fuel pump is not even the issue?
So I end up letting Aamco do the work because I did not want to have pay again to have the car towed and just tired of dealing with their ruse.
I call Aamco to arrange pickup and here we go. I am now quoted $ 583 because for some unknown reason they did not quote me with the tax initially even though I made it clear the other shop quoted me $ 525 INSTALLED. They drop it to $ 525 after I have to point out their misleading tactics are obvious and out of control.
I have little tolerance for business practices like this. We well see how the quality of the work is but I will not be taking any of my vehicles to this place again.

My Ford Focus needed a timing belt, a serpentine belt and a motor mount. Christopher was great in explaining that there was a «kit» and that the water pump would have to be replaced as well since they were already replacing the timing belt but it would be no extra labor charge. We also thought there might be an oil leak because of smoke expressing upon start-​up, but he assured us there was not.
He got us in before closing on one day and had us ready to go by mid-​afternoon the next day which was GREAT for my busy schedule and my upcoming trip to Dallas. Lastly, Christopher put me in touch with a company that could finance a portion of the $ 800 total so that I could make payments. I could not be more happy with this repair experience since most I’ve had at car repair shops have been shall we say less than tolerable.
I felt taken care of and not taken advantage of. My car is driving like when I drove it off the car lot… wow! Ladies, this is the place to take your cars! Thanks Christopher!

1996 Audi A4, driving from Dallas to Austin Aug 11, a/​c goes out around Temple. 107 out. Good times…
This aamco was near the hotel. I’ve been to shops that won’t work on german but they have a mechanic, David, who does. Spoke with him and he seemed knowledgeable Saw another Audi there as well. Clean shop, pleasant people, very satisfied with the experience. Manager Chris Maldonado was pleasant to deal with as well.
They replaced compressor, cost $ 1,300 after tax, don’t know how that compares to other shops but with temp 107 I just wanted cool air. Drove from there to Corpus Christi then back to Dallas, no problems.

I went in with my «check engine» light on which was blocking me from passing Texas inspection.
I thought I knew the problem was with the O2 sensors. The mechanic kind of agreed, but he wasn’t 100% sure. He said he needed a full blown diagnostics that would take over an hour and cost about $ 90.
The diagnostics found that the problem was NOT what I thought it was.
Hugo, the manager, was nice enough NOT to charge me the $ 90 for the diagnostics since I would be coming back in to get the offending sensor replaced. By doing so, he ensured that I WOULD ACTUALLY BE BACK.
