Dave’s Cycle & Small Engine Repair

Dave has been helping with and working on my bikes for years, and he is very knowledgeable with the vintage bikes. He just got done building an 836cc cb750 motor for me with all the bells and whistles and is working on tricking out my Z1 900 motor. I highly recommended using Dave, It is hard to find honest people who stand behind their work and know what they are doing anymore. I’m not your normal customer looking for oil changes or tires. I bring him some pretty challenging projects.

Took my mower to Dave not knowing what was ailing it. Diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes. Had it fixed in an hour and a half and I was back in business. Very professional, explained everything, got the gas lecture :). Dave knows his stuff.
The only down side is now I have to mow the lawn…

I brought my lawnmower to Dave after it quit on me, and he was able to quickly diagnose the problem, gave me a quote for repair (and general maintenance) and said he would be done in less than 3 hours on a Saturday. Sure enough, he called me when he said it would be done, I picked it up, and it works better then before! He’s super nice and efficient, obviously knowledgeable about all sorts of mower and cycle engines, and wants the customer happy. Definitely recommended!

Took my lawnmower in because I didn’t have spark. Dave took maybe 3 hours and it was ready to go. Showed me what was wrong with it and how to maintain it from here on out. Price was very reasonable. If you need small engine work this is the place to go!

Sorry this is going to be a long review, but wanted to be sure this is as accurate as possible. My dad took in his Troybilt XP to Dave to service this morning and after some testing, Dave said this was fixable and likely the carburetor. About 2 hours later he called my dad said it was all fixed and ready to go. My dad arrived and it was $ 90 for the repair and Dave started to help loading up the mower.
1 big problem, it was the WRONG TROYBILT MOWER! He was giving him a 2200 in place of the higher end XP. What was most noticeable was that there was a bag attached to the mower he gave us and the mower we gave him did not have a bag which was still at my parents house. My dad told him that it wasn’t the right one and words were exchanged as Dave stood firm that he had my dads name on the mower and that was his. Dave was not backing down. Out of complete frustration my parents called me up to see how to handle something like this wether it is best to call the police for fraud or file a case against him. My dad is 70 years old and felt that Dave was trying to take advantage of him because of his age!
I called Dave directly and tried to figure out what happened. In short, Dave explained the scenario and told me that there was only 1 Troybilt brought in that day and he didn’t have any other Troybilts. He basically claimed my dad was lying and must have not known what mower he had. He believed that there was no way he made a mistake because he writes the names on stickers and places them on the mowers. He even showed my dad receipts which I still have no idea on how that shows it was the right mower. Well, my parents had the xp bag that went with the mower and were planning on showing the receipt of the model.
I called Dave a 2^nd time and told him that we have the bag that came with the mower and was 100% positive that he must of mixed up the mowers. He walked outside while on the phone and he found the Troybilt XP mower my dad brought in. He couldn’t find it before out of the 20 mowers he had. He said he was confusing it with a Honda because that model uses a Honda engine. So now the story changes and to avoid having my parents pick up the mower which was now declared a dead mower, I picked it up for them and Dave wanted to talk in person.
So he was apologetic for the mistake but still defending why he go mixed up and didn’t apologize for his accusing remarks to both myself and my dad. He mixed up the names on the 2 Troybilt mowers and had a D. Smart listed on ours. That’s right, 2 Troybilt mowers were brought in that day and I also saw 2 others at his shop. That person was supposed to get the mower he was giving my dad, if this was a legitimate mistake. My parents still feel that Dave is a scam artist targeting elderly people. I honestly don’t know, but it didn’t help with Dave telling me there was only 1 Troybilt brought in that day when there was actually 2. He also told me there were no other Troybilts at his shop. How can you not figure that out that the 2 Troybilt mowers might have been accidentally switched? By the way, Dave is the only person who works there.
Looking at the other reviews, I can see that he seems like a really nice person and likes to explain things. Unfortunately the last review was about 6 months ago and even though he was admittedly in the error, he was really defensive. He stated that if he was really trying to scam my father, why would he offer to buy him another mower? Well, people can say all they want– doesn’t mean they will actually do it. My dad just wanted his own mower anyway which I picked up today. Dave at least did not charge any service fees and stayed late, but the stress he put on my parents on this situation was intense and not professional at all.
Either way if it was incompetence or trying to scam my father, this is a place to avoid because trust is important for a shop like this. Dave mentioned that when he called D. Smart that the mower was unfixable, he said that Dave could keep it. Even though his mower was actually fixed with a $ 90 service charge that we refused because it wasn’t ours. Well, this really opens it up to say something is unfixable and being able to keep the mowers and sell it at a profit.

Dave W. knows his stuff and is always willing to share what he has learned with all he meets. He helped me out to undo what the dealer messed up and did it for a very good price. His total amount with parts and labor was less than what the dealer wanted to charge me just to look at my motorcycle. The best part is he was able to do it all without an appointment in less time than it normally takes to get the service department on the phone. The only down side is Dave does not accept credit cards.

I brought my push mower into Dave to get an oil change on a Saturday. I called at noon and asked if it was possible to get it done same-​day. He said to hurry on over and he’d take care of it.
I pulled up to the shop, Dave greeted me at my car, helped pull the mower out and immediately went to work on it. 15 minutes later the blade had been sharpened, oil changed, oil filter washed, and good-​practice care tips given. Like another reviewer stated, Dave let me know that the local gas station’s gas goes bad after about a month and that it can really gum up the mower’s engine. Great time — thanks Dave!
Another good sign is he had several people around the shop (customers) who were hanging out and enjoying chatting him up. Impressed at the comfortable atmosphere.
He charged $ 32 for the service and I could not have been happier.
Additionally, I’ll keep him in mind for when/​if I pick up a motorcycle — had some really great bikes in the shop :)

Dave was so great to work with. I took my mower in at 2pm on a Friday and it was done by 3:30pm the same day. He was reasonably priced, kind and fast. What else could you want. My mower is running and I would have never figured out the coil was out on my own. Thanks Dave!

I took my mower in for a tune up to a different shop. They had it three week and charged me $ 75. I got it home and it ran worse than before and the blade was installed incorrectly. Two weeks later the mower would not start.
I read the reviews for Dave’s and thought I would give him a try. Wow! what a difference. I took my mower in at 10 AM and Dave called me at 1 PM to tell me it was ready. I don’t remember when my mower ran this well. I did get a little lecture from Dave on caring for my gas, but I really appreciated the advice. He could have said nothing and had me back as a customer in a few months.
Dave is one of the rare people left with integrity and outstanding customer service. If you are looking for a company to work on your small engine or motorcycle, give Dave a shot. You won’t be disappointed.

Dave is a cool guy and definitely knows his stuff. Usually get a small lecture on the how bad gas is and how fuel stabilizer is needed, but that’s cool. Good reminder to keep gasoline fresh and Dave is a cool guy. I always go here for my lawn mower services and he’s fast and does a great job. Always thorough and doesn’t cute corners. Nice to have someone like this in business!

When my Honda lawn mower would not start I took to it Dave’s shop. He verified what I had already done and helped me find the problem. The problem was fatal to the engine. Dave did not charge me a cent for his troubleshooting and expertise. I would highly recommend him for your equipment with small engines. Heck of a nice guy too.

Such great service — hard to find these days. Dave knew exactly what was wrong immediately, and not only did he have the mower fixed within 24 hours, he also added a blade sharpening for a total exceptional price. This guy knows what he’s doing.

When it comes to motorcycle or small engine repair Dave is the man. This is truly one of those old school finds where you have a guy who has passion for his work and loves doing what he does. He even encourages folks just to stop by and chat motorcycles… where do you find that anymore.
I had a 1972 Z50 rebuilt by Dave and spend this past weekend riding it around my neighborhood grinning ear to ear. Runs flawlessly.
I now have him working on my 74 Yamaha Enduro 80 and next a TRX250. Dave will be working on all my stuff from now on… period.

When my echo weedeater wouldn’t start this season, I called around looking for someone to fix it. Every place I called said it would take 3 to 4 weeks. I called Dave at 3:45 on Friday afternoon and he said if I could get it to him by Saturday (the next day), he’d have it back to me by Thursday. He said he had to get out by 5 for a previous commitment.
I ran out there and got in the door at 4:45. Dave asked to take a look at the trimmer before I left. In 10 minutes, he checked fuel, spark, compression and used high powered ‘pre-​mix’ fuel to try and start it. He looked inside the cylinder and saw scoring and told me that, although he could work on it, I would be better off buying a new one. Dave earned a customer for life that day — go see him!
