Gander Mountain – Round Rock

I really want this store to make it and I keep giving them chances hoping that their service will improve but sadly I guess that’s a pipe dream. Today, Saturday 2÷6÷2016, 10 am I decided I would try to buy a hand gun at this Gander Mt once more. Entered the front door went straight to the gun counter and took a number as the sign posted instructed. As usual they had only one person working the gun counter and he was engaged with a customer in BS. He was processing a gun sale at least but they were spending more time BS’ing than attending to business. I was there to purchase a $ 1,000. + Sig Sauer model P220 Elite .45, ready to make the purchase! I knew that this same gun was in stock at a local Gun Store but I figured I would get a better price at GM so against my better judgement based on my past experiences I gave GM another chance. I waited and waited to be helped. Two more customers pulled numbers and waited, then another customer so I finally called the store and ask the customer service guy who answered to get somebody back to the gun counter because there were now a few of us waiting. Time went by and then a sales person finally popped out of the back just to tell us that he had two guys on the way and they should be here soon. I PUT MY TICKET ON THE COUNTER AND LEFT! THIRTY MINUTES FROM THE MOMENT I WALKED INTO THE STORE! I HOPE SOMEONE AT GANDER MOUNTAIN READS THESE.

Fantastic selection of new firearms, as well as quite a few used ones. Service may take some time to get to you at the gun counter, but once they are working with you, they will stay with you until you make a purchase, or are done looking.
Went in looking for a shotgun, and another store had it advertised for less money. They matched the price, and then discounted it a few more dollars on top of that. Got a great deal on the gun, and Larry was great in helping me decide between several different models.
The buying process is not a quick one at Gander Mountain, but I walked out very pleased.

These guys are pros at bait & switch. And their service is terrible.
I came in on the afternoon of Dec. 24^th to buy a gun advertised in their circular. After a very long wait because they only had one person behind the gun counter, he showed me the gun. However, he would not sell it to me at the ad price saying the ad didn’t start until Dec. 25^th. I was surprised, and asked if they were open Dec. 25^th. Of course they were not. So I came in on Dec.26^th. After another long wait, he said they were now suddenly out of stock, but he would be glad to sell me something that was much more expensive. I declined, so he said to go online and order it there. Of course they were out of stock online as well.
Offer a great price, but don’t have them in stock to sell. Instead, now that you have the customer in your store, try to switch them to something more expensive. It’s called bait & switch.
Also, prices in general are 10% higher than Academy.

This place is awesome! Few buddies advised me that its over priced and same stuff as academy. Well, I got a great deal on a rod and reel for bass fishing, they even beat out Academy! Also, the gun section they offer to beat any price from a brick and mortar PLUS 10% off!!! You cant beat that. If Reds indoor would have sent me a quote they would have beaten it. Oh well. You have to check this place out for the black Friday deals, they are allowing you to shop them now. Every employee that assisted me was great and knowledgeable.

I wasn’t originally going to write a review, but then I noticed most other Unilocalers were thinking the same thing I was. My boyfriend and I came in around 2pm on Saturday. We had eaten lunch in the area and came in looking for fishing equipment and hiking shoes. We were in there for a good 30 minutes looking at shoes and various supplies for our camping/​hiking/​fishing trip coming up soon. We were not greeted or offered assistance while we were there, and to be honest, I don’t think I saw a single employee the whole time, including at the registers. I was going to try on some keens, but after searching for a few minutes I put the display shoe up and we headed to academy just down the road. Glad we did too, there were an abundance of employees and I left with a pair of great priced keens and a new backpack. I had never been to gander mountain, but I had higher hopes than this. Don’t waste your time, there is an academy right down the road and a bass pro shop just a few exits down.

I wish I could give this ‘place’ (NOT store, because they have NO interest in selling anything) 0 stars. WORST experience — employee Amber seemed mentally deranged and actually refused to help me when I asked about some jackets they had advertised as being on sale…
Jeremy Hayes, store manager, was about as condescending as could be (think parent that refuses to accept any responsibility for their child, heck, didn’t think child had done anything wrong!) Like talking to a wall. Will NEVER EVER return. Will tell EVERYONE that will listen to NEVER EVER step foot in the place. On top of the horrendous lack of customer service the merchandise wasn’t even all that…

So I called the archery dept here today to see about get my compound bow draw length adjusted. My bow is brand new I bought in Dripping Springs and they wouldve done the work for free but just didnt feel like driving out there. So I called GM and they said they would charge me $ 50.00 for a draw length adjustment and I couldnt believe it!!! Thats usually done for free! So I called Bass Pro Shops and talked to Steve a Bow Tech and he tells me to bring my bow and my bows setting chart and he said he wont charge me $ 50.00 and he would get it done at no charge! It took him about 10 minutes to adjust it! Steve was really helpful and a super nice guy! Ive bought a few items at GM and its not a bad place but their archery and hunting departments customer service is HORRIBLE!!! And after the ridiculous price they gave me for this bow adjustment its no wonder why they are losing customers! After today I am no longer a gander mountain customer! My money will go to Bass Pro Shops for now on!

Been here 2x…2^nd cuz of Father’s Day! First trip… twrrrrrrible. Told all my friends.
I have been in sales for many years and this goes down as one of the top for appalling in customer service/​helpfulness. Not only (2x) unhelpful… but more annoyed that you even came in and tried to shop. Jerks. Spent $ 300.00 on Carhartt for hub… which I blindly selected after asking a couple questions precipitating a blank stare and moving very far away so as not to be «bothered» again.
I actually witnessed another REI looking shopper guy also get 100% ignored.
Bad model for a brick and mortar store. They must pay these people terribly???

Gander Mountain is very proud of their selection of fire arms — pricey. They do have top quality selections.

I love this store. Sometimes sold out of my favorite fishing baits but with a weekly restock I can usually get anything I need quickly.

Bass Pro will be open in Round Rock soon. The Gander Mt. store deserves all the competition pain it will get. I thought the old timers at Mcbrides were the worst but at least they know their guns. They seem to hire a bunch of clueless kids who have you on ignore the minute you walk in.
The gun department will have maybe one expert who is always swamped because everyone else behind the counter has to keep interrupting them with questions they can’t answer. I’ve gotten more attention in a Dollar Store.

I didn’t patronize Sportsman’s Warehouse that much. But now I really miss that place.
What a step down Gander is. Most Gander stores I’ve seen carry reloading supplies, (overpriced like everything else in the store), but not this one. I was originally told they would carry reloading supplies eventually. Years later, still none.
Anything in this store can be bought elsewhere for a lot less money. Some of their used guns are priced higher than the new model at Academy right down the road.
My friends and I appropriately call this place «Rip-​off Mountain».

The Gentleman who feels a one star is warranted because they won’t return ammunition is very misinformed. I personally wouldn’t buy ammunition from a store who would return it. Let’s think about what could be done in the «hour» he had the box. What’s to stop him from swapping the ammo for wrongfully overloaded hand loads? Now the next customer could have a SERIOUS injury from shooting what they thought was safe factory loads. This is just one scenario of many.
Is it this retailers fault this man didn’t pay close enough attention to the ammo he was buying? I don’t think so. All of the large retailers I shop have very clear signs stating the return policy, and none of them return ammunition. I applaud this store and it’s managers for protecting its customers and I will absolutely shop here in the future.

I grabbed a pack of ammo and purchased at the counter. As, i got home i realized that oops i had grabbed the wrong pack for my gun. Well, no big deal i had the receipt and it was unopened. So, within an hour of the purchase i go back to find out that you can’t return or exchange ammunition. So, now for the price of one pack of ammunition they’ve lost my business for a lifetime and everyone who i talk to from here on. Do yourself a favor and go to a store with more integrity

We practically live in Gander and have never had a bad experience. This last visit was especially good. Jeff was the one to help us this time (he has also helped us in the past, and was the one to help me choose my conceal carry gun, and couldn’t be happier with that purchase.) What I love about Jeff is he doesn’t try and bully you into a purchase, he is just super knowledgeable and will answer all of your questions, regardless how silly or mundane. Jeff was very thorough but quick as well, getting us a super deal on a S&W M&P. Thanks Jeff and Gander for all the insight and the help you have afforded us, you can be certain we will continue to shop at Gander!

I really like the store!

First time I’ve been there was with friends buying their first guns. We looked at Academy, GT Distributors, and a few others but since Gander had the Ruger 40C and the time of day they wanted to go here and buy from being excited. We got there and the gun was priced $ 100 dollars over GT but they were open and wanted the firearms that day so they bought them.
I was helping a friend and his mom buy their first guns so I did a lot of questions asking for them and one was why their prices were so high $ 100+ over GT to which they responded «that’s the price point they had to be at in this store». I was like dang do you price match and they said yes but they call and they have to have it in stock. So we did it for one gun at Academy but not the other because GT was closed by that point.
They went to do their background checks and one guy behind the counter apparently had the audacity to ask the other associate «why I asking so many questions» which is not only rude but shows his lack of understanding of the gun buying process for first timers. He seemed like one of those guys who acts like a know-​it-​all but in the end he’s just some guy working retail behind a counter and clearly hasn’t come to the point where he should take what knowledge he does have and try and educate and teach rather than be the king gun guy, all bow down to him. He’s lucky I didn’t hear him ask his question or I would have given him a definitive reason why.
Finally, their ammo is way over priced as well as their guns and most everything else I saw. For example, my buddy bought a Winchester 40 S&W red/​white box 100 count value pack there for $ 50 when Academy had exact same product for $ 36. Those prices are what people are paying for 45 auto at a private small retail shop so I have no idea why they think people will pay that. We also tried to buy 380 auto for the gun his mom purchased and they had no ammo even to sell with gun purchases. I should also state they lied about not having .22 LR when the other associate sold us one box from behind the counter. I mean really??? You couldn’t have just told us the truth instead? What a joke.
I wouldn’t shop here again unless I really needed something in a hurry or was totally desperate. Walmart, Academy, and GT especially are much better deals, customer service, etc. I really feel this place won’t be around much longer to be honest. Maybe they should have learned from Sportsman’s Warehouse who used to be in the same building they moved into. Look around your store, lots of product, high prices nowhere near competitors, and employees doing nothing but making comments about me asking questions for my friends. Maybe the guy should ask why the store is empty rather than why I was asking questions. Jerk.

A great selection range of guns and a good variety of fishing gear while having many other things that an outdoors-​man would need or want.
I like the large selection of specialty shoes as well. They have Keen and other brands that you do not commonly find around.
Clean store and helpful employees that are always close and convenient for your outdoor needs.

One star is a star too many. Great selection of overpriced guns, ammo, and all around hunting paraphernalia. After turning in weapons for appraisal we patiently waited for ONE and A HALF hours. Ok, appraisal done, picked out gun for trade, done. Now let’s pay and get the eff out of here. Sales people arranged our paperwork pronto. Grabbed the shot gun for us. Now just waiting on the manager because he is the only one that can do the trade. Oh lord, here we go again. Another FULL HOUR later The man was literally standing in front of us, papers right there, and on the computer and then just walked away to the back. Are you serious?!
After two and a half hours of waiting for this inept human being to appraise our guns and then finish the sale we were done. Forget about it. Got our guns back and left. The manager, Patrick, had the audacity to apologize for a millionth time and then say he didn’t know what was going on because he had just arrived. I imagine, sir, what is going on is you’re losing our business because even as a manager that does this for a living YOU don’t know what is going on. Apology not accepted!
