Los Patrones was surprisingly good. I had a house salad with ranch dressing and we split the spinach nachos. My husband had Lili’s salad. My salad was very fresh, as was the ranch dressing. The dressing was definitely NOT store bought, but had to have been freshly made. The spinach nachos were also very tasty. My husband enjoyed the Lili’s salad too! The service was very good and the atmosphere was good too. Definitely not a «typical» Tex Mex place! Well worth the visit.

LOVED Los Patrones! I’ve been hesitant to try it every time that I’ve come to Round Top. I’m very picky about Mexican food(especially their queso and margs). I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious and authentic everything was. Thank you for showing our group fantastic service, we will be back!

Overall, it was pretty good food, but not necessarily differentiated. Loved the building, prices were good, and food was good. I would definitely visit again when in the area, but wouldn’t make a special trip here to visit.

Great Mexican food for this small town! Service was very good and fast. Had the Texas Two Step Margarita which was very tasty. Queso was great. The best part were the Carnitas Guisadas that I ordered. It was absolute heaven. Very buttery and full of flavor. I would rank it as the number one Mexican dish that I’ve ever had! So freaking delicious!

My first time in round top, here for a conference/retreat. Needless to say there are not many options in Round Top for eating out. We took a chance and stopped here for dinner. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious. I ordered a combination plate that contained flautas, quesadillas and an assortment of other foods. The food was wonderful everything from the meal to the frozen mango daiquiri.

I’m VERY picky about Mexican food, and Los Patrones is as close to Mexican food from back-home as I’ve found in the area. The refried beans have just the right amount of flavor, and the rice is pretty close my abuelita’s. Also, I’m not a really a fruity drink person, but after one sweltering summer day of antiquing, I ordered a piña colada, and I can honestly say it’s the best I’ve ever had. I’m leery of ordering pina coladas since I’ve had so many awful ones, but Los Patrones really nails it! Creamy, thick, and tasty every time. Service can be a tad slow, but always friendly, so I don’t mind waiting a bit. Also, if they’re super busy, it’s understandable! Kick back with the chips-n-salsa, sip yer drink, and just relax, they won’t forget ya!

We stopped in here for dinner after a long day of junk shopping in Warrenton/Roundtop. Amazingly enough, there was not a long wait. The place was full and the servers were busy. The food is your typical Tex-Mex variety and wasn’t any better than your average Tex-Mex restaurant. I want to emphasize that I give them three stars based solely on the fact that their menu is pretty standard to everything else that you see in other Tex-Mex restaurants. If you are not drinking alcohol, you can plan on spending an average of $ 10-$ 15 per person. Although we did not partake, I did hear the table next to me complaining about the cost of the margaritas. I have no idea how expensive they are or how good/bad they are. Also, during peak times(Antiques Week, etc), they will not split checks. Considering how busy they were when we were there, the service was decent. It was not absolutely perfect but I did not expect it because the servers were extra busy. As far as entertainment goes, they did have a local high school student with a PA sound system set up outside. I do have an ear for music, pitch control, etc. She wouldn’t win The Voice but sounded pretty good considering the set up she was using. If you don’t want to listen to her singing, request a table indoors. If you found this review useful, funny, or cool, please let me know below. Thank you for reading.

This place is sub par. Avoid it like they plague. Margaritas are underwhelming and they food is unappetizing.

So let me just say Carmine Texas which only has a population of 90 is what the American Dream truly was, friendly people who wave at you as you drive by, people telling you hello and smiling at you from every corner, and antique stores in every direction the naked eye can see. I’m pretty sure the biggest crime ever committed here was an over due library book which I hope the authorities caught the scum bag and threw him in the jail. Well then again towns like these could possibly have a secret cult and murder people like that movie Hot Fuzz? Anyways this town was a great drive from Austin. What the heck was I doing in Carmine you might say? No I wasn’t cougar hunting you jerks; I was helping my brother and his wife shop for antique furniture for their new home of course. My pay for helping with the heavy furniture was lunch at this place. So the inside is a decent size and on this day the front area which is their patio area was full so we say inside. The menu here is huge!(that’s what she said) I went with the tamale plate which came with beams and rice which I’m not going to lie the tamales needed some salt but aside from that were decent. The chips and salsa is ummmm needs salt! Ok the chips are actually really good and I am thinking are made their? They give you two salsas and the red picante salsa tasted store bought except for their green salsa which was good but needed salt. All in all the service was great. I didn’t expect to find the gem of all Mexican restaurants here and neither should you, this place is average and probably perfect for this town. Oh before I end this… The rest rooms here are weird, I think someone painted the toilet seat lol. Oh well I wanna come back here on antique week and hit on some Cougars yo!

There are only a few restaurants in Round Top. This one seemed like the best choice for our party of five. Service was very slow, but friendly. I had a «grilled» shrimp stuffed chili relleno, which came with rice and beans. The rice and beans were good, but the chili relleno was horrible. It was under cooked and stuffed with boiled, not grilled, shrimp. I didn’t taste ANY spice. It was completely flavorless. I know the food is really bad when the only things I’ve eaten in two days are a piece of fish, some rice and beans and about 5 bites of potato salad. The restaurant is pretty large, but they only have one toilet for women and one toilet for men. I had to wait in a rather long line to use the restroom.

Good casual Mexican good. Really loved the chicken flautas, but unfortunately they have a shortened menu during antique week. Highly recommend them when they are on the menu. on day 2 I had the fajita tacos which where very good. They deep fry a flour tortilla

Yet another disappointment in the search for Texas Mexican food. There was absolutely nothing memorable about this restaurant except the noise level. Margaritas were super sour & had to be sent back, the food was terribly bland, and the service was spotty. Where can I get some damn good Mexican food in Austin?! It really can’t be that hard. Will not be back!

We were really excited to try this restaurant after reading all of the great reviews. The restaurant was packed which I felt was a good sign; however, there was no hostess or organization to the seating. Customers are left to circle the dining area and fight for an available table. The waitress took our drink orders except for one person in our party; it turned out that it didn’t matter because she forget our drinks anyway. There probably only a dozen menu items(perhaps because it was show week, not sure). I was disappointed to see that some of the items mentioned in other reviews were not available. After an extensive wait our waitress came by to take our order and let us know that they didn’t have any food other than nachos and quesadillas. We ordered two orders of beef nachos and chicken quesadillas. We wanted to order a bowl of queso but were told they had ran out of that as well.

Great food and margaritas! Slow during antique week. Otherwise excellent service and good food. If you go during show week plan to go at an off time or plan for long waits and be patient with the servers.

Margaritas are adequate, queso is ok. Reason for bad rate is that we went here on the end of antique week, half of our table ordered beef and they brought us chicken and we told them we ordered beef and they acknowledged that and said that they were out of beef because of the volume of people coming from antique week(no apology ensued). They could have told us that before we ordered but we let it slide because of the volume of people in there, however when checking out all of a sudden a bunch of beef entrees were flying out of the kitchen. I asked for an explanation from the manager and she never apologized and just said and kept repeating«it’s antique week, thank you sir» very rudely and we ended up paying for a meal that we did not want. On a side note the chicken was dry and the tortillas were cold.

If it wasn’t for the frozen margaritas the meal would have been a negative. I had the spinach enchiladas and they had a strange after taste plus they weren’t hot when delivered to the table, chile con queso was just a step(and maybe only a half step) above ball park queso. Chicken fajitas were okay but a scant serving compared to other area Mexican restaurants. My husband had the equivalent to «Chef Recommends» in other places and he couldn’t eat it. Tepid, too many onions, barely any mushrooms or bell peppers and the cheese wasn’t melted. Guacamole was very good but wouldn’t return just for that or the margaritas.

Awesome Mexican food. As good as anything in Houston or Austin, and that is saying a lot. The Tex Mex is great but the rest of the menu is even better. All the seafood dishes are incredible. Lots of Mexican interior dishes. All old family recipes. And some really incredible Margaritas. Don’t drink more than one large one if you have to drive home. Even the pastas are great. Whoever heard of a Mexican restaurant the serves an awesome Sicilian Pasta?

Round Top is a great little place for a day trip from Houston(or Austin for that matter). Besides having lots of little boutique shops, they have numerous events and festivals, most notably the antique fair in the spring and the fall. Now, there’s another dining choice in town. This recently opened Mexican restaurant sits in the former digs of Dempsey’s(previously Klump’s) on the town square. Despite being open for about a month, they seem to be in stride. We had an incredibly large group, which is always a challenge, and the service was excellent. In town with a huge group? This is the place to go. The menu contains a lot of standard Tex Mex, like fajitas, quesadillas, etc. I was pleased to see they also had carnitas, which I’m looking forward to on my next group trip here. The more unusual fare was the presence of a lot of fried sea food options – but, hey, this is a small town and so there are a lot of niches in the market to fill. They had about 6 different fajita variations, and I had the Monterrey, which included cheese on the grilled meat, onions, and peppers. I’ve got to say the quality of the ingredients was very high. The veggies were extremely fresh, and the cut of beef was tender, nicely trimmed of fat, and done to perfection. I was a little disappointed that the guacamole and pico de gallo were served as thimbleful-sized portions. Given the price point, I would have expected a bit more. They are probably still finding what works and what doesn’t, so this may change in my next visit. If you’re in Round Top, it’s an option that’s AOK in my book.
