Great menu of a combination of traditional and updated entrees. Something for everyone. A Pig Burger and the brie and spinach toastie were delightful.

We were sat as soon as we arrived. We were waited on quickly too. Had the bruschetta for an app. Was really good. Nice and flavorful. Also had the prosciutto & fig jam panini. It was excellent; just would have liked a bit more prosciutto. Service was prompt and I would go back again

Drinks only review. I came here with a friend for after work drinks on a Monday. There were only a few other people there. As expected in this scenario, service was great. Beers were good. It’s a cool spot. I would come back. Easily walkable from longwood medical area is a plus!

Many things about this place are 5-star: atmosphere, service, mixed drink quality, beer selection, and sandwiches. The meal sides(fries and barley salad) were sub par. The bartender was great. Overall, I recommend this place fa sho.

Great bartenders, good food, and fun games. Drinks are strong and the trivia was an added bonus. Would highly recommend the PROSCIUTTO, FIGJAMANDGORGONZOLA, it was the perfect combo of salty and sweet. Food is fairly priced, but be careful on your bar tab… it can sneak up on you! Ps: Management, keep that side door closed! Boston’s cold!

I always want to like this place more than I do. God knows, I’ve given it plenty of chances. Situated an odd half-block off Huntington Avenue between the Longwood Medical Area and Brigham Circle stops on the E spur of the Green Line, the Squealing Pig’s primary virtue is that it isn’t a hospital cafeteria. Think on that for awhile. The small rectangular restaurant is divided into two rooms, one long big room and one smaller square room, with a straight bar that runs almost the length of the big room. And as much as I like eating at a bar, this one feels uncomfortable as there’s no way to sit without your back to the door. It feels exposed and, like the rest of the room, chilly, what with all the wood — tables, chairs, benches — and the high ceilings — as though nobody tried to warm the space architecturally or otherwise. The Squealing Pig always is chilly, both actually and metaphorically. Today, for example, as four of us sat by the door to the second room, almost as far from the outside door as you can dine and still be in the main room, I could feel the cold on my back. The smaller room — which is where I ate last time I was here with the same work crowd — is warmer but more difficult to be served since to get service you always seem to have to flag down someone from the disaffected service staff. Why is it when a restaurant has bad service, it has bad service across the board? Oh, right: management. It was lunch. Not crowded. We are a no-fuss table. Two diet cokes, a water, and one beer. Three sandwiches and one salad. Not quite an hour. We’re in happy conversation. Even so, when one of us asks for a soda refill, the server drops the check on the table and sneers, «We charge for refills.» Whoa. Okay, you charge for the sandwiches, too, and yet don’t remind me when I order. You charge for beer but bring it to me anyway. I’m a customer: just bring me a drink and add it to my bill. Or not. Who charges these days for a soda refill? We’d already spent $ 75. If the bias is against college kids monopolizing a table, uh, okay. But a policy designed to prevent loitering shouldn’t be used to refuse service to customers during a meal. If we’d asked for coffee, would she have refused? Where’s management in this? And, note, last time we were there, no charge for a refill. While I don’t want to make a harsh generalization — ah, heck, of course I do. Whenever somebody says, «let’s do Squealing Pig,» I groan inwardly. Anywhere else! The service is, like the food, mediocre. (Ask me about the whiskey pour: two of us at the bar. We’re together. We order the same bourbon neat. One of us gets fully twice the pour. Twice. What’s with that?) (The Pig could be so much better than it is. The location, the beer list, all that pork, a panini machine…) The food: the menu is unnecessarily complicated. There’s a turkey reuben but no ruben? I bet that’s a hot seller! They’d probably do better to streamline it. So I order the Cubano, a panini with ham, cheese, pork, jalapeño relish, and garlic mayo. This $ 13 sandwich came with about a dime’s worth of meat, not enough to spread one layer across the bread, and that’s with two kinds of meat. And where was the cheese? After close inspection, I find a tiny bit beneath the single layer of meat. The garlic and relish were MIA. A real Cuban has pickle, an essential component of the taste, a lapse so obvious with this sandwich that I reread the menu to make sure I’d ordered what I thought I had. I’m still wondering about that jalapeño relish, something I would have loved to have tried. This sandwich is to a cuban like a cigarillo is to a cigar. It came with fries, which were just okay. Unsalted from the kitchen, it took doctoring(ha!) at the table with malted vinegar and salt to make them edible. Sometimes I think it’s me but when everybody gives me a knowing nod and follows me to the salt and vinegar, I know it’s the kitchen, not my table. And then i think, maybe this is a health thing. You know, we’re in the medical area, half the customers are wearing scrubs, limit the salt, limit the cheese, limit the meat… Nah. This is just mediocre food, so underwhelming that it always feels overpriced.

Felt the Boston vibes so I got the Guiness beef stew. I’m not a beef stew expert, but I was so satisfied with it that I ate the entire huge plate of it. Fries were quality as well. Can’t speak for the bar aspect.

This casual spot near the Longwood Medical Area is good for pub fare, though the food I’ve gotten there is usually nothing special. Most recently I got the fish and chips which were decent — wish the batter had more flavor but the tartar sauce was good. The overall atmosphere is comforting though, and it seems like a good place to grab drinks after work.

I come to Boston a few times a year, and was so happy to find this place just a couple of T stops away from my AirBnB. I was THAT customer who walked through the door a half hour before closing because I needed something to eat, and had looked at the other reviews on here. I came for the Shepards pie, but they were out. A little bummed, but prepared with a 2nd choice of the Guinness beef stew. I picked up a cold while I’ve been in the city this time around, and it was just what I needed. The bartender was so gracious and nice to me, and once I mentioned my cold, without even asking first(I’m okay with this!) He made me hot water with lemon and honey. Between that, and my meal, it was just what I needed for a little comfort. Now on to the stew. It was a large portion, and I ended up taking about half with me. The chunks of beef are about 3 bites worth, the mashed potatoes are creamy yet still lumpy, and the sauce with the root vegetables, and onions was hearty and warming. One thing that took me a little off guard was the Brussels sprouts in them. Well done to the Squealing Pig for making me feel right at home. I get the feeling if I lived in this area, that would be my local watering hole, especially due to the large variety of beers available.

Good place to have a few beers. Unfortunatelly, we went there for food. The food was not so good. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It had a lot of flavor, but those flavors didn’t taste very good. My brother and father in law ordered burgers. They were awful, really. My brother in law didn’t like it at all, but my father in law thought it was mediocre to fine. Beer was good.

I’ve anticipated on coming here many times for the past couple years and heard great things about this place. However, when I came here yesterday, I was quite disappointed. The service was okay and the food was quite average. The first thing my friends and I ordered were Tuscan fries because it was a recommendation on Unilocal. It was really soggy and bland. Some fries were overdosed with Parmesan cheese and truffle oil and others were not seasoned at all. Don’t order this. For my entrée, I got the Codfish sandwich. The fish was fried to perfection(probably one of the best fried cod I’ve ever had) and the bacon was thick and delicious. The bun was absolutely terrible though. There was black pepper infused in it and I hate black pepper. It might’ve said on the menu that it had black pepper, but I didn’t know the bun would be so concentrated with it. It completely ruined my meal so I just ate the fried cod and bacon on it’s own. The regular fries were once again bland and soggy. I really don’t recommend coming here for food. Based on other Unilocal reviews, it seems like only the drinks are good, which I didn’t order.

Cute bar! Wasn’t busy on a Sunday evening, only 3 groups there! Nice and clean! Food was okay, but really enjoyed the environment. The reason this gets 3 stars is that the staff, or at least our waitress, was not very helpful and was rude. But that shouldn’t keep me from mentioning anything about the food! Nice place to grab a beer and chat with old friends

Fair to middlin fare… I was hoping for something a little bit better in the pub food category. Instead, it was just sub average…

Very good beer and food. Love the curries. The 4 stars is because the service can be indifferent at times

I’d give this establishment 3.5 stars. The service and food were good but nothing spectacular. The décor was very nice though-loved the lights! Calamari was rubbery and bland. The tomato sauce helped the lack of seasoning but I’m still put off by the texture. The lamb burger was tasty and well cooked. Curry fries were more like gravy and fries, which made them soggy. If you really want curry fries I’d suggest getting the sauce on the side.

Friendly, professional service, good non-interruptive music, interesting décor, comprehensive beer list. Delicious creative wholesome food made to order. Started with soup of the day: potato & leek dairy free(yay for lactose-intolerant me), peppery, hot, yummy with scrumptious homemade bread served warm with a slab of butter. Mains: chorizo toastie with homemade grainy mustard based potato salad – both yum! Spinach salad with salmon, onions & avocado added, no problem – chef put ½ an avocado on! Delicious! Nothing was salty which is wonderful and all requests were met with a smile. Will return here for sure!

Reasonably good food! I enjoy it at The Tavern at the End of the World, much better. This place has no atmosphere and bored waitstaff. Convenient location but that’s it for me.

It is an amazingly cozy place. The staff is really good and the would make you feel comfortable. The food is too good. We had Tomato and Basil Bruschetra which is really nice. The bread is perfectly grilled with the perfect amount of basil pesto on it. They have just one dessert and it’s amazing. Must try.

I worked accross the stress from this establishment for at least two years — there are very limited options in the area so we found ourselves at the squealing pig often. I would say it was always a mediocre experience. The food is pretty typical for a pub; I usually stick with a toasty. The atmosphere itself is great very cozy.

If you love pub food as much as I do, this place is heaven. I ordered the chili– which was flavorful but really spicy. Then, I ordered the turkey Reuben toastie with a side of fries, the sandwich was perfectly crunchy and toasted. The flavors worked really well together– salty, creamy, and tangy. Sprinkle some malt vinegar over the delicious fries! Thanks for an awesome lunch, Squealing Pig!

Doesn’t respect customer’s time. We showed up, waited 10m, and then saw a group of 3 who had just arrived get seated before us(group of 2). Waitress claimed that certain tables are better for certain crowds even while one person was dining alone at a four-top.

This is my favorite bar in Boston. When I did my undergrad in Fenway, this was a favored spot. Afterwards, it continued to be a favored spot. The food is delicious for the price, the beer selection is awesome(the house beer, Pigswill, is the cheapest at $ 6 and also really tasty), and they are happy to make stronger drinks. A friend of mine asked for a really niche drink that the bartenders didn’t know how to make, but were happy to upon brief instruction. Overall, the staff is really accommodating. The good, in short: great food, great drinks, and great price. The bad? The list is short, but significant. First and foremost, the place is really compact. If you have a pet peeve about personal space, you might have trouble with this place because of how close together everyone and everything is. I’ve had more than one person bump into me by accident because of how small the place is. This, however, does not bother me one bit — but it might bother others. Second, it’s usually pretty packed and loud. If you go during a low-population time, it’s pretty low-key. During their super popular times, the place is packed and the noise level is high. Again, this does not bother me one bit as I am used to these kinds of places. Others, however, might find this a problem… that’s why I bring it up. The third drawback, which is actually a pet peeve of mine, is that the seating is uncomfortable. It’s all rigid wood, even the booths. If they invested in some more comfortable seating, I would pleased. All of this being said, however, the amazing food, the wealth of alcohol, and the always-friendly staff keep me coming back here for more. I have never brought anyone here and seen them leave unsatisfied. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, The Squealing Pig is a place you would be remiss to avoid.

Love the interior pub feel! We tried this place for lunch as we were walking on our way to the MFA. As we came in we didn’t know if we should wait to be seated or just sit down. We decided to just take as seat as no one really greeted us. A few moments after taking a seat our server came and got our drink orders. We took a look over the menu and I chose the brie sandwich with potato salad and my husband got the fish and chips. My sandwich was pretty good but did not blow me away, especially for the price. It had good flavor with fresh spinach, brie, and fig jam. The potato salad was mustard based but a bit too mustardy. The bread could be a bit warmer even though it was toasted. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips. The presentation was great – served on a fish-shaped dish, two fillets on top a bed of fries with lemon. The service was fine and the restaurant was pretty quiet as it was around 2pm. Overall, it was a decent experience but for the prices I expected a bit more.

Not only was this place incredibly and conveniently located to my friend’s apartment, but it was just what we were looking for after a day exploring Boston. Inside provides a classic pub feel with of course, classic pub fare! Deciding what to get from the menu was a tough decision since everything looked great. People were raving about these Tuscan fries… so naturally, that was a must order. Parmesan and Truffle Oil, SAYNOMORE. They were crispy, flavorful and the perfect accompaniment to my burger which was fantastic too. I ordered the Grass Fed Burger which came with onion rings and topped off with an organic fried egg. There’s just something about a fried egg on a burger that just makes sense. Our service was on par despite it being very busy when we visited. I have to say, My meal was satisfying. The ambiance was relaxed and welcoming. And I had great company. I’m sure I’ll be back to try more of those burgers.

Had the grilled steak pizza and didn’t know it would be appreciably spicy until I asked the waiter to help me make a decision about what to order – great dish and def enjoyed it more because of this unadvertised detail. Curry fries were good and perhaps exactly how one would imagine fries covered in curry sauce would taste like. They were good but I probably wouldn’t order it again. They get soggy and lose their warmth pretty sure quickly. There was quite a variability in waiter service quality with the general tendency for mine to overlook my small table. The beer selection is fun.

Came here on a whim because someone mentioned something about The Squealing Pig having a pretty competitive lobster roll and for under $ 20. Well, I’m not the type to pass on that so I came here with my boyfriend to try our first ever lobster roll. First mistake… Probably should have looked at Unilocal and seen that there’s virtually no mention of anything about a Lobster Roll… Bad sign. Not even a picture. Well… being somewhat suspicious we sat down and decided to just order one lobster roll. We also got the tuscan fries, and a prosciutto and fig pizza. The Tuscan fries are so delish! Plenty of Parmesan and they didn’t skimp on the truffle oil too which is always a plus. It’s pretty big dish of fries too! The prosciutto is something else as well! I’ve never tried such an interesting combination on a pizza and will definitely come back for it again. It is the perfect balance of savory from the cured ham and sweet from the fig jam all on top of a thin crispy crust. Now the lobster roll… my boyfriend had the perfect word to describe it. Underwhelming. Painfully so. You know all those pictures of lobster rolls you see all over Boston blogs and Unilocal and such? The ones where there’s a mess of glorious lobster claw/knuckle mixture all on top of a buttery roll that can barely keep it contained??! … This was the opposite. There was way more bread than any«lobster». And what was the«lobster» was bland, sad, and dry. I mean… How can a lobster roll even be DRY? It’s a shellfish for god sake! I learned my lesson that day that you get what you pay for and apparently that means there’s really no such thing as a good lobster roll for under $ 20. Aside form the lobster roll which is really the only disappointment I must reiterate that the rest of our meal was DELICIOUS! Service was attentive which is quite impressive for how pact the place was. Our server was very nice and checked to make sure we enjoying our meal multiple times, refilling our drinks, got our check and to go boxes all in a very timely manner. Place is a bit rambunctious but in a fun friendly way. It seems to get packed quite quickly(we got there around 6:15 p.m.) so make sure you beat the rush. I’m definitely coming back again to try other items and will follow up with an updated review. Had it not been for the lobster roll this place is a solid 4.5.

I can’t truly review this place because I only stopped in for a beer and an appetizer. The bartender was very friendly and took my order quickly. I ordered the calamari and it was probably the best calamari I have ever had. The pieces were large in size and had a very light breading. It was served with spicy tomatos and the flavor was just right.

Ok. I don’t want to be that person, BUT… I walked in here and promptly walked out. Everything looked great — the décor was really nice, wood tables, low lighting, not too crowded, nice beer list, the works. Solid modernish hipstery but not really bar. I wanted to like it, I really really did. And I will certainly give it another chance. BUT. The music was SOLOUD. It felt so empty, no one was dancing or anything, it didn’t seem like the right place to do that, and yet the music hurt my ears. While the atmosphere felt like the right kind of place to chill and talk to someone, I literally couldn’t hear anything. I don’t get it. I’ll be back in a month or so to give it another chance, maybe, but eh. Be warned.

We came here on a Saturday night around 8 o’clock. We were pleasantly surprised to see that there was no wait. The décor is really nice. The ceiling has white lights strung across. It almost feels as if your outside having a late night bbq looking up at the stars. It was a little cold inside but it was empty so that was a factor. Our server brought waters over right away. She took our drink orders(She didn’t seem too happy when I decided to just stick with water) and let us take a few minutes to look over the menu. There was five of us. I can’t quite remember what all of us ordered but I do remember that my boyfriend ordered the Steak Sandwich and upgraded to the Tuscan Fries(Parmesan & Truffle Fries!) I remember that he said it was delicious. It got a little spicy toward the end but in a good way. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich. It came with french fries and coleslaw. It wasn’t the best pulled pork I’ve had but it was good. The coleslaw was drier, which isn’t my style. We split the bill up with 3 cards and cash. We wrote on the back of the receipt who should get charged what. Unfortunately, with three brother of obviously the same last name, our server mixed up the amounts on the card. We figured it out by exchanging cash but it couldn’t been a problem if someone didn’t have enough money on their card. I definitely want to come back next time I’m in the area to try the fish fry or the lobster roll. The place has a charm to it.

I had my first legal drink in the US here at the Squealing Pig. And now every time I am in Boston, I make a point of going back there to reminisce my favorite bar/pub in Boston/America. Their Coffee House Porter turned me on to dark coffee/chocolatey beers. Smooth, delicious and perfect for coffee and beer lovers alike. Of course, if dark beers aren’t for you, the Squealing Pig has a variety of beers of all nationalities/flavours/shades, etc. And when it comes to bar food, you can do no wrong with their Tuscan Fries. Yum!
