This place is amazing. Both beautiful and interesting. I went yesterday to check it out for a possilbe hiking club expedition however the parking lot is very small so not really geared to a large group. Exploring the grounds of the old furnace area was a lot of fun. We took the RR road out and then connected to the blue trail at the quarry bridge but somehow we wound up going in a loop right back(after a long while) to the quarry bridge and we went back out the road. i was expecting to do the loop back to the furnace area and have no idea where i went wrong. it seemed like i was following the one and only blue trail but i wound up circling back to the quarry bridge. I will have to go back and reverse my trip and figure out what i did wrong because now it’s bothering me LOL

This is a great preserve. My husband and I loved all the exploring you can do, both on and off trail! Also, it’s on the National Register of Historic Places, and has excellent signage explaining the history of the site, the buildings that still stand, and fun facts about the area. The trails are very well marked with signs directing you and blazes to ensure you stay on your path. There is a resevoir, farm, and plenty of trees to see while hiking, along with old mine shafts and other neat points of interest.
