The prices here are great and that’s the only positive thing about this store. The isles are too small for the crowd that it attracts so everyone is in your way. There aren’t enough registers(or maybe the cashiers are slacking) so the lines are too long, not to mention many people pay with their EBT cards and hold the lines up because they don’t check their balances before paying for their groceries. This place needs renovations without a doubt, and charging us for shopping bags is just ridiculous.

Just awful!!! I honestly wouldn’t recommend for anyone to shop here! There is nothing organic and everything is processed and super unhealthy. I understand that it’s cheap but if you spend a little more on healthier items you will save on health care later. I was honestly just appalled at the tubs of lard in the aisles. I mean legit tubs of lard! I’ve never even seen that before. Everything else was either a sugar or a carbs. This place has to be the most unhealthy market in the state. I almost felt bad for the people shopping there filling their grocery carts with all that junk. I ended up just getting some Cheerios but couldn’t bring myself to purchase anything else here… I paid and left… Also they don’t bag your groceries here. You have to put them in boxes on your own. Do your body a favor and just stay away from this place.

Oh my gosh this place is so cheap. It’s not much to look at, but let’s not be naïve – the name identifies its main selling point as savings. Nothing sexy at all here. No money spent at all on a nice retailing experience: Costco-type no shelving shelving(straight up stacking palettes atop palettes), very densely planted aisles. But yeah, there are definitely commodities that should be the same everywhere: granulated sugar, kosher salt, iodized salt. And then there are items that you probably won’t notice too big a difference with: purdue chickens, generic imitation vanilla extract. Plus the bananas are always 45 cents a pound. The fact that there’s a security guard at the entrance makes me uneasy, but again, save a lot.

This place is fine. You get what you pay for, and you dont have to pay allot. Generally everything is cheap here, the most expensive meats are allways the chicken wings. You can get great deals on Chicken Leg quarters, and various pork peices. Their produce section is crappy and expensive however. Cheap dried goods and pasta’s and all their store brand stuff is absolutly fine for the price. Great junk food selection as well. I don’t eat red meat \, and they carry a huge selection of Turkey products which I really like. Downside. Often very long lines, Unfortunatly many of the clientelle are paying with food stamps, and its kinds depressing to see how much junky unhealthy food is being bought on gov. money… The location in The Mall of Roxbury is certainly not good, and there are some real wierdo’s who shop there. Once I saw a lady absolutley freakin’ out that their was a conspiracy against her(somehow she got on the intercom) and that«they»(the store officials, the gorvernment?) had conspired to steal a peice of paperwork from her. Ahhhh yes never a dull moment in Roxbury

This store is true to it’s name since the prices are very low. When it comes to bargains… I’m there and you will definitely be able to stretch you dollar at Save-A-Lot. It is reminiscent of a Market Basket, but a little more grungy. For example you won’t really find brands you recognize, but hey for things like butter, rice, and canned goods it is fine. I have tried a lot of their baking supplies and have no complaints. I went to high school around here so I am familiar with the area, but I can pretty much bet that many folks will avoid it simply because it is located up the road from Dudley Station. Perhaps it is a bit out of their comfort zone, I myself have never had a problem. However, I will be perfectly honest and say that my mom had a run in with a guy in the parking lot who was super high and would not leave her alone. She now now gets her Save-A-Lot fix at the Chelsea location.
