Wh do people think the world revolves around themselves. Mike the guy Bitchin about a line to get a drink posted april 16. Gee Josh Abbott concert would make that happen. It’s was a great night for any club during a concert. Southern junction, has those to bring in business. Mike if u want a dead club where no one is getting a drink at the bar, try Applebee’s or Chilis.

If you like long lines, terrible house bands, 30 minute wait for a drink just for them to under pour it or the sweet taste of lung cancer due to the mustard cloud of second hand smoke. This is your place!

Went there on a very busy evening. Brittany made sure our experience was fantastic! Brittany will always have our business because she took care of us, our kids and made everything that wasn’t perfect… perfect! The music was great with a live band as well as a dj, the atmosphere was authentic Texas style and we played pool til our table was ready.

We arrived late and close to the dinner special ending without getting the chance to order. But Nathan the grill manager took great care of us, made sure we were able to order. Then piled it on to make up for our wait. Great guy and the waitress Eron is allsome as well. We were have such a great time that my guy left his credit card, of course Eron(i heard) tried hard to chase us down with no avale. Although we emailed SJ they called back and said Eron turned it in for us. Gonna make SJ a regular dancing shot…

This is the 3rd time that we have come to Southern Junction. This time here the woman who seated us warned us they were short staffed. That«excuse» still can’t explain why it took almost 4 hours to eat and pay our bill. Also it would have been nice to know that they charged for soda refills. Many of our party would have had water instead. We did enjoy the 2 for 1 steaks that we cooked ourselves.

ZEROSTARS !!! I had a terrible experience here once when I first moved here that I’d like to share. We arrived just to eat and just after the time cut-off to not have to pay the cover for entertainment that night, so even though we told them we were not staying for the show, they made us pay cover for everyone in our party(6). That put me in a bad mood. We were seated in a very overly crowded section immediately next to a noisy/rowdy/drunk party at those long tables and when we asked if we could move a waitress said, «No, we have limited seating this evening», even though there were empty tables all around us… We went to choose and cook our own steaks and the area around the grill where you get the bread and stuff looked like a tornado hit it. I mentioned to a waitress as she passed that it was awfully messy and kind of disgusting and she just smiled and said, «Yeah, I know…». REALLY?!? So we cooked our steaks on the grill, which was also disgusting, drunk people elbowing you out of the way to get a good spot, etc., and tried my best to cook our steaks appropriately until an usher/waiter came by and said, «Are you going to take all night? People are waiting!» I retorted, «They can wait their turn, just like I did!» Upon our return to our table, our salads, which we weren’t completely through with, were gone and they seated another party in two of our seats. After some heated discussion we got that straightened out and sat down to our meal. The«filet» steaks that I chose for my wife and I were cooked ok but tougher than shoe leather. I was about to go complain when our waitress came by to collect our check after we had barely started eating. I believe our portion of the check was about $ 60.00, so my wife gave her a $ 100.00 bill. The waitress exclaimed, WOW, THANKS!” and disappeared. Apparently, she assumed we were giving her a $ 40.00 tip for her«excellent service», which, as stated, included setting two strangers at our area of the table we were at, taking forever to fetch drinks, and not really checking on us at all except to get our check taken care of nearly immediately after we finally sat down to eat. I went looking for her, to no avail, and went to seek a manager. When I found one, he said, «Oh, she may have gone off shift, but I’ll see what I can do.» After waiting 30 minutes, when the«show» was about to start, we decided to cut our losses, realizing this dump wasn’t worth the effort and left, making a solemn vow to never return. As much money as this place rakes in, you’d think they would invest in the place and fix the bathrooms(again, absolutely disgusting), hire staff that bathes regularly and pave the parking lot for crying out loud. I’m sure the patrons who visit during the rainy season are overjoyed to trek through the muddy gravel, not to mention the fact that the carpets in the entry area completely filthy, worn and smell like the blanket from a doghouse that hasn’t been cleaned in years. The whole place smells like an old barn. Very charming.

This is a true honky tonk experience. I have never eaten here, but I’ve heard very good things. At night, the bartenders are great, the music is great, and the crowd is usually great. It is a smoking facility. You will smell like smoke. Get over it. Dance, drink, have a good time, and mind your manners, because if you’re looking for trouble, you’ll find it. It gets packed for bigger acts, but still small enough to experience some great music.

This is one of my favorite places in Texas. It’s inexpensive(especially for a steak dinner) and has a great house band and dance floor. One note is that no one in my group had cell phone service while inside the building(not a big deal but good to know if you’re trying to assemble a big group).

So super crowded during the weekend and some of the staff have sticks up their butt. Jimmy the bartender is a huge sweetheart, get close with him! But he’s happily married ladies so chill. This place is fun, not my style but I can see if it was someone’s style that they would have a good time. Wade Bowen comes here a lot and Stoney Larue which are amazing live! The place is pretty clean and THANKGOD not a lot of smoke from the smokers. Pool tables are usually always full and if you leave your quarters for next game, most the time people will just use them but some folks are unlike that and will be fair. It’s an alright crowd.

Love it here. Atmosphere is great, one of my favorite places in the area to go & two-step the night away. Good mix of all ages, cold beer & great music. They bring in all of the great texas artists, too! Be aware of where you are going though, it will sneak up on you & you will miss your turn!

This is a huge dance hall located out in the sticks. This place will sneak up on you if you don’t know where it’s located — especially if it’s dark. Careful turning in from the highway — they’ve got a gravel parking lot and some big ditch holes that will jostle you around if you’re in anything other than a pick up truck. It will take you by surprise if you don’t know it’s there. Kids under 18 are allowed in with their parents. They offer free dance lessons on Thursday nights and happy hour pricing on drinks. They also offer steak dinners. You can grill it yourself or have someone do it for you. They also take dinner reservations. One last word of advice — if you’re meeting friends or someone inside, make sure you have a means of contacting them otherwise you’ll be walking around a long time trying to find them in the dimly lit expanse of their building.

It was worth an hour drive for the experience! We were the only Asians there and eyes were glancing at our direction, but not in a judgmental way. haha It was cool that we get to choose our(uncooked) steak cut and grill it ourselves. Waitress was slow with her duties but the vibe there was fun. Finished my water and went to go grill my steak. Came back 10 – 15 mins later and my water cup was still empty. Had to ask her for a refill and she came back 10 minutes later AFTER i finished my Baked potatoes, Steak, Salad, and toast. Still tipped her $ 6 on a $ 15 bill because i enjoyed myself. 2 stepping, country music, and bull riding had me relaxed.

The atmosphere was great in this place but the food was horrible! After spending almost $ 70 on 2 steaks I was very very unhappy. The potato my wife and I got was very cold… the bread was hard and the steak had no flavor. For all the hype this place gets I was expecting a lot better. I rather go to logans, even furrs steaks were better. I would come back for the dancing and drinks but never and I mean never will I ever EVER buy food from this place again.

We went here January 30, 2015 for my wife’s birthday dinner. She wanted to try it out, as we recently moved to Royse City. Everyone was super nice, the steaks were half-priced and it was delicious! We’ll be going back very soon.

My brother in law and sister live in Rockwall and have been telling us for year about Southern Junction and all the great bands that come through there. With Randy Rogers Band doing an acoustic set we finally decided it was time to join them. My brother in law grew up in the country and has been two stepping his whole life. My sister has been joining him for years. My husband and I live in Dallas and while we like country music we were a little intimidated. We were afraid we would stand out with our lack of boots and lack of dancing. However, the experience was far less intimidating then I was expecting. There was a $ 20 cover since it was a big name band, however once we were inside the drinks seemed to be reasonably priced. It is a pretty big place but it was definitely crowded on this night. Don’t expect to sit unless you get there early or reserve a table. This is definitely a laid back and not at all pretentious type of place. I believe all beers are bottled, not a place for the craft beer aficionado. There is such a mix of people — I assume most of the crowd was from the surrounding small towns but with a mix from Rockwall, Dallas, and some of the other suburbs. You have everything from true cowboys to young girls in far too tight dresses. Most people were wearing boots and there were a lot of hats, but plenty of people were dressed as we were. My biggest complaint was they should have more bars as it takes too long to get a beer. Once they turned off the kitchen area it seemed like they could have served beer over there as well from coolers as I have seem other bars done. Also, the dance floor seems a little small and could benefit from more coattail style tables instead of the big tables. I understand its also restaurant but it seems they could transition better for the night. The band was awesome and $ 20 to watch a nearly 2 hour show(plus there was an opening act) was well worth it. The acoustics were great and it was definitely a fan and happening atmosphere. I can’t wait to come back, maybe even for a less known band so we can sit and maybe even dance if I am feeling more adventuresome next time. The dance floor was so crowded this time I was nervous to go with my lack of skill.

Recent visits to Southern Junction proved the food is wonderful, service pretty good, nice atmosphere and DJ selections have gotten better. However, I would like to suggest turning down the music especially on Wednesday and Thursday nights. We were actually unable to carry on a conversation and left earlier each time. I would also like to suggest that small children remain off the dance floor when the band starts unless with an adult.

We went to Southern Junction this past Saturday night and I loved it. It had everything I was hoping for an more– drunk cowboys, drunk cowgirls, live music, dancing, cheap beer, smokin’, laughing, and fun. I loved the ambiance. There are nice lights on all the tables, kind of like little hurricane lamps, and it give it a great look. Kind of like a rustic elegance, when it could very easily be a sticky dirty dance bar. The bartenders were no nonsense but friendly, the beers were reasonably priced and the shots weren’t bad either. There is a little wait when you first walk in and pay your cover. It reminded me of walking in someone’s dirty living room. There was a ½ drunk girl cussing and the older women behind the window were NOT pleased. So act like ladies and gentlemen until you get into the main room. The music was varied… the cover band was a country one and the DJ played a mixture of dance music and other country songs. It was fairly busy and there was lots of folk dancing. We took a couple of turns around the room, had a dance or two, and we were ready to go. I already want to go back.

Like to dance? Enjoy good country music? This place is fantastic. It reminds me of Tumbleweeds in Oklahoma where Garth Brooks started out. And you can eat a good steak dinner with all the fixings as well! Came here 2 years ago to see and hear Mark Chesnutt. Had a terrific time!

If you looking for some good old fashioned honky tonk action it just dose not get much better than this place! And the food is good as well! We like to bring out of town guest here on Wednesday nights for cook your own 2 for 1 steak night! Thats right, THey have a HUGE indoor grill and you can pick your own and cook your own steak here! It really gives them a taste of Texas the way they think it should be! And in the early hours its great for the kids as well! Great live bands, old style DJ, Bucking Bull, walk up bars! Yes this place has all the Honky Tonk amenities but with out the tourist traps of a Billy Bobs or Gillieys! You’ll actually find REAL cowboys here!

I was surprised at the building it was housed in, Looked like a warehouse however lots of fun to be had inside, my son and daughter in law suggested it, we were visiting from SoCal and have to say we had a blast. True Country Hoe Down, well as close to one as I ever have gotten. Steaks are great, make them on your own or have it cooked. Full bar, pool tables, bull ride, line dancers, country folk and a sure Texas attitude. We loved our visit to Texas, out of all the things we did, Southern Junction was A-OK with me.

I love taking friends and family visiting from out of state to Southern Junction for a fun Texas experience! It’s always a fun night through and through. We like going for dinner, drinks, and dancing… But there’s also Titan the mechanical bull for $ 5 if you want that added fun. The steak dinner is awesome, especially if you go Wednesday for 2−4−1 steak night(or for the early bird special on Friday). You pick out the cut of meat you want, season it how you like, and then you can grill it yourself or pay a little extra to have them grill it for you. It’s a lot of fun to get around the big grilling stations and do it yourself. The dinner also comes with Texas toast, loaded baked potatoes, and a salad. Plenty of food. All the bands that they’ve had when we’ve been there have been great. We’ve never been disappointed. They also do a good job of mixing it in with a DJ who plays some«fun»(non-country) songs. People tend to two step and line dance, but my friends and I like to get out there and country swing dance(however, they won’t let you do aerials there). Note: Be sure to call ahead and make reservations AND check to make sure there is not a concert that night because that will change pricing. I see there have been a lot of negative reviews about the customer service… We haven’t had any problems when we go, but I would say that we tend to be pretty patient when we go just because we are usually there with big groups and expect to have to wait a little bit.

We used to go here a lot years ago and really enjoyed it. The food and music is good. Getting in the place is awkward. You have to go up to a ticket window and sign for a membership, which is free, and you are then asked if you are going to purchase a steak dinner. You have an option of having a burger or other food from a snack bar. My wife and me had the steak dinner, good steak, good price. We had an appetizer which was okay, she had two drinks, I had three beers. Our bill was $ 65.50 including the gratuity. A couple of days later I checked the recent transactions for my mastercard online and find I was billed for $ 90.90! I immediately called mastercard and am protesting the charge. I have my receipt and there is no way I signed anything for 90 bucks! Needless to say, i will not be going back to a place that is going to rip me off!

You obviously want to go to a country bar if you’re coming here. This is not a place to go for steaks, they just happen to serve them. Went with a party, wife and I had ribeyes we cooked ourselves. The prep area for cooking your own steaks could do with real simple instructions on how to cook a steak, because anyone who’s not a chef professionally would know anything about SJ’s grill. Knowing if 2 – 3 mins per side is medium or med rare would have been helpful. This place also lacks in some sanitation concerns because you’re expected to take your raw meat from the cooler on your dining plate. Tongs and wax paper could’ve solved that but we doubled down on our plate count instead. The steaks also seemed inconsistent with each other making me suspect of any aging at all in house. I’m not asking a lot from a $ 20 steak, and neither should you. Our waitress wanted to drop our check as soon as we got back with our steaks from the grill which also struck me as weird. I also prefer not to sign a tip with a server hovering but I tipped nice since our party’s check didn’t include gratuity. Bartender was polite, joking that 4 beers for 2 people seemed like a light amount of drinking. :-) We drove a good distance to eat there, probably won’t be making the trip again. Just know that you’re in a bar while you’re eating your steak and have the waitstaff cook it for you. They know what they’re doing despite what you might lead yourself to believe.

If you’re from out of state and looking for a REAL Texas experience, this is it! From the outside, you’d never think you were walking into a place like this but it is HUGE! We enjoyed making our own steaks and having an authentic Texas experience– including a disco ball with a cowboy hat on it! I’ll definitely return here on my next trip to Texas for a night of country music, line dancing, and cowboys… oh yeah, and the food too! :)
