This is a magical place. We come here for a respite from real New Hampshire hiking, which can be truly challenging and strenuous, which this pleasant approximately one mile walk most definitely is not. But what it is, is magical – the tranquility and quiet beauty is unsurpassed, and if you stop for a while to sit on one of the several benches scattered along the path, you will start to notice how teeming with all manner of interesting wildlife it is. Today we saw a flock of goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds, numerous juncos, and a magnificent great blue heron. We heard many more bird calls than we saw. We also walked past a beaver lodge, as clearly laid out as any good architect’s own home. The plant life is amazingly varied, with stretches of marsh grasses among the regular(mostly white pine) wooded paths, and plenty of wild flowers and blueberry shrubs at every turn. Just lovely. I can’t wait to come back this fall and see what it’s like at the changing of the summer season. A wonderful little jewel of a place, uncrowded(even at the height of summer, as today), peaceful, and, well, magical.

Lumpy, bumpy, roots, boardwalks, uneven paths and a wobbly(but solid) bridge and I loved it all! Relatively flat, no tough hills, pretty scenery as the mile long path borders a little pond. The nature center was closed while I was there but still a great view from the porch. Free but donations appreciated. Dogs allowed!!!
