SnowDrift Tube-Boggan Area

We were pretty skeptical after reading the reviews. It came off like they are shrewd mean people who just want to take your money… Well, here is our experience.
Me, my wife, and my 3yr old came by here and we had a blast. We had so much fun that we came back the following day. I found out my three year old has a crazy side when she was asking me to go to the highest point and have her go down backwards… Lol. So… Financially, yes it’s expensive. If they were money hungry they would have measured my daughter and double check if she was under 36″… Instead they let go by at no charge. It’s an hourly rate per person, but after an hour of being there and walking up those stairs with a tube, your kinda done, lol, unless your on drugs, or you have a heck of a lot of energy. Then that’s different. The employees– well they are pretty straight forward, not very smiley, howdy neighbor type of people… But they are there to do their job and part or their job is to assure people safety. So I can see why they are always on edge.
My family and I had a blast! If you can go and deal with employees who are there to literally so their job and that’s it, and don’t mind the hourly pay… Go try it and you’ll have a lot of fun!!! I have to actually complain more about the morons that tend to stand in front of the slope where people go down which my wife also ran into once and I almost ran into once. Those people have no consideration… But it’s still really fun!

HORRIBLE! Cant comment unless I put at least one star, but in my book they would be negitive! I took my 2 young girls here to try it out, and the people that ran the place were horribly rude and nasty!!! Several people pulling in left too after they experienced the same. Will never go back or recommend this place. We got a wilderness pass and went on our own! I see they also have alot of bad reviews every were. Also, Julie H. posted a pic of the rude nasty dude working there and that is who we had to deal with too!!!

Tons of fun! They have a hill size appropriate for all ages… even my 4 and 5 yr olds were fine going down several of the hills on their own. An hour is more than enough time. It’s very tiring carrying the tubes up the stairs so we were ready to leave at the hour mark anyways. $ 15/​person seemed reasonable since it included the tubes too.
Two negatives:
1) Long lines everywhere… from the roads leading there, to getting into the parking lot, and then just getting to the booth to pay to get into the park.
2) The ports-​potties are super nasty and don’t have toilet paper. Many times while standing in line I’d hear other people telling the staff there was no TP and they did nothing.

Cash-​only is a bummer, and not being able to use your own sleds is as well. Beyond those hiccups, it’s a pretty fun place. Climbing the stairs after every run is no joke, I blame the thin air.

My review is two-​fold, one for the place itself and the other for the staff/​management. Seems the issues with this place are not unique to our experience.
THE PLACE:
The tubing and runs themselves are pretty fun and our family had a nice time. The price is a bit high but still reasonable deal for a family. The kids had a blast Walking up the steps is a pain but also a good workout. The grounds could use better upkeep and the stinky gross dirty porta-​potties could be switched out for at least acceptable bathrooms — they never get cleaned — GROSS!
The place is very ICY all over the steps and on the hills themselves — DANGEROUS and in all the wrong places. We slipped and fell several times, my 2 and 4 year olds both hit their faces on the ice as a result — thankfully they are OK. The staff/​mgmt clearly don’t give a damn because when I informed them about it they said «well, we have a sign so we’re covered». They have you sing a total-​release waiver when you walk in and that’s all they really care about. A little effort to clear the icy portions would go a long way towards preventing accidents.
THE STAFF/​MANAGEMENT:
The staff/​management are some of the rudest I have ever encountered in a customer-​serving establishment. I witnessed them being rude to numerous customers from the moment we walked in. They talk down to customers, are impatient — their only interactions are to collect your money and have you sign their indemnification waiver.
One of the staff members clearly had an AWFUL cough, indicative of a serious illness and yet there she was, collecting money, touching people/​items and spreading her illness around. This is highly irresponsible. She and the manager also spent the bulk of their time yelling at customers who committed the slightest infractions in the tubing process. And I don’t mean friendly warnings but more like «hey, stop doing that stupid, can’t you listen?».
At one point I witnessed a staff member pull a family off the slopes only to accuse them of sneaking in the park without paying. They totally embarrassed the family and it turns out they were dead wrong. The manager semi-​apologized to the family, only after he realized how irate the customer was.
THE MANAGER:
Apparently we are not the first to have issues with this manager. The manager wants to kick you out of the place the minute the clock strikes 4pm, which I can somewhat understand.
Our car battery was dead in the parking lot. I pulled out my jumper cables and tried to get a jump from the person next to me, got the battery pretty close but not quite to starting. The friendly helper had to go and he was the last person in the lot, all that was left was the manager. He was clearly pissed off that we were delaying him, which I can also somewhat understand. However, he did not once come up to us and say, «hey guys, anything I can do to help?». He just sat in his truck with his lights on us from about 50ft away pissed off while we were stuck and called AAA for assistance.
It took AAA about 90 minutes to show up, the whole time the manager was just clearly upset with us. Meanwhile, we are in our car with no heat, 3 small children all freezing, crying, hungry, etc. The manager didn’t so much as ask us if we are ok let alone offer to let us wait inside where it was warmer. He just didn’t care at all except to demonstrate his visible frustration — very surprising behavior. At one point I walked over to him and said, «hey, I’ve got the jumper cables, if you just hook up to us for 5 minutes I can get the car started and we can get out of your hair.» He refused, claiming he had a weak alternator.
As we sat freezing waiting for the AAA to show up, my son realized he had left his expensive snow cap by the entrance. My son/​wife had a clear visual on the hat. My wife went out and offered the manager some of our limited snacks and then politely asked if, while we wait for AAA, we could go retrieve the hat. The manager flat out refused. So there we are, staring at the hat and knowing it’s an arm’s length away and we had to let it go because this manager just had a rotten attitude.
Finally, AAA showed up and jumped us in a matter of seconds. The AAA tech asked us why we supported this establishment in the first place — he knows the manager and staff well and said they are known to be rude and ill-​mannered towards customers.
The following morning, my wife calls the place to request they hold my son’s expensive hat at the office. The rude manager, without so much as looking for the hat, said «It’s not here». This after we CLEARLY saw it there. My wife asked to speak to the owner at which point this manager hung up the phone on her.
BOTTOM LINE:
Hard to say if we will go back here. On the one hand, the kids had a super fun time but on the other, the rude and poorly-​mannered staff/​management took what was otherwise a great experience and made it pretty awful.

We drove up to this place early in the morning and got there a couple of minutes before they opened. We paid $ 15 per hour/​per person, but we got an extra 20 minutes on our bracelet (not complaining about that haha). We went during the holidays so it did start getting busy the later it got. If you go early, there’s less people meaning more fun!

I arrived at Snowdrift at 12:52 PM today with my three kids. After paying $ 60 to tube we rode once down the hill and my oldest daughter who is 9 got very sick. I immediately got my kids and on our way out I asked to speak to a manager. I told the manager about my situation, that we had just arrived and then my daughter got very very sick, I told him that I thought she was having a diabetic emergency and he never offered no help, never asked me what he could do. I asked him for a refund of the $ 60 since we had to leave immediately after getting there and he said no refunds. I have never experienced this kind of crass, rude, cold hearted customer service in my life– it wasn’t just about the money, it was about him not offering any kind of help.

This guy does not belong interacting with the public. I hate writing negative reviews about local places but this experience took ridiculous to a whole new level.

We had a great time. $ 5 parking was fine. $ 15/​hour/​person was a good deal. Tubing was great. Snow is well groomed and hills are very nice and steep.
One star off for long wait to get in. There has to be a way to shorten the wait.
If you go over an hour they will amortize the amount you go over. We went over one half hour so it was $ 7 more and not the whole $ 15 for second hour.

Not sure why there are so many haters for this place. Yah, you pay for parking…$ 5 is not a big deal. If you live in LA, this is actually REALLY good. $ 15 an hour… this worked for us. We brought our 16 month old son and an hour was enough time. If you are trying to spend the entire day here, yes, go to another place where you can pay for the day and where they will have one of those moving walkways.
Some tips that I was looking for…
1. Yes, you can bring your babies and they can ride with you. Under 36inches are free.
2. Yup, cash only.
3. Yup, only portapotties and bushes. You can always pull over on the road and pop a squat!
4. They have maybe 5 or 6 different hills so you can go down some bunny slopes or go down some steeper ones.
5. You will get tired! They only have stairs and you gotta bring your tube up with you each time but at least you don’t have to wait in long lines. It’s not bad but it will definitely be a workout. Look, if you can handle going up stairs, you got other problems you need to take care of. Hit the gym!

Beware, the website is not updated daily and therefore not very accurate. The site states that the venue closes at 5pm, but in actuality they stop letting in customers in at 4… Also, getting a hold of staff on the phone to get updates is close to impossible.
A bummer if you’re driving from LA

Great place to go with the family, it was fun and good activity to celebrate New Years. I really recommend this to do at least every year.

All I have to say is that an employee was smoking on the job. I will never even consider supporting this business again. Also a ridiculously long wait and pathetically overpriced. Only bad experience I’ve ever had with a business in the Arrowhead/​Big Bear area. Beyond disappointing.

Pros: low price, never really gets terribly crowded, family fun
Cons: hearing“get up and out of the way!” over and over, yet still people won’t get the hell out of the way.

Staff rushed you before you enter (signature and wristband) but I’d rather deal with that then a long line to get in. Staff on the grounds definitely cared about safety and were quick to make an announcement for people to move out of the way or not take pictures in certain areas. Tubes were sturdy. Not too many stairs up the hill. Plenty of hills/​spots for people to go down even if it’s crowded. Nice that the old folks can stand behind the fence and still see you if they don’t plan to tube. $ 15 for 1 hour.

This was really fun! And it was much less expensive than other places. My young children really enjoyed themselves and want to come back next month.

Good honest innocent family fun. We took my 2 year old here a few weeks ago for his first adventure in the snow. So much fun to ride down the hill on a tube with him. he was going solo by the end of the afternoon, and the place couldn’t be more easy to deal with. Wish they had a snack bar or something other than vending machines, but we had a blast.

I went here with my daughter and wife, and had a great time. They have both small and bigger hills. The tubes didn’t seem to have any quality issues. It was not overly crowded when I went so there was no line to wait in.
They have a rule set you have to follow. Stomach ONLY. No climbing the hill and such. They are reasonable, but if you prefer tubing in different ways then that may want to be taken into consideration.
± No lifts or automatic way to take you up, only stairs. This can be a plus or a minus depending on the person.
+ Cheap if only there for a short time like an hour $ 12 a person
+ Young kids around 2 are free, and can ride with an adult
— Only porta-​potties, no place to change or wash up
— No real cover or places to rest, there are hay places filled with snow to sit

We had a great time today. The guy at the gate was friendly, the people at the check in not so much… they seemed annoyed and we were the 2^nd group of the day. But don’t let that stop you. For $ 12/​hr you get access to some safe hills and any tube you want. You prob won’t need more than hour because the stairs will tire you out. Kids all had fun! There are only Portable toilets: so plan ahead.

This place is so fun! My family had a blast! we went yesterday, MLK day, expecting it to be crowded, but we were pleasantly surprised that it was not… We paid for an hour only, which is more than enough time there. No traffic going up there and easy parking. Loved that they don’t have too many restrictions, since we got to take our 14 month old down with us and she loved it! I do have to mention that there was hardly any snow on our way there… so you can’t miss this place since it’s the first place you see with snow!

we went on a wednesday, not a lot of crowds, they have about 5 hills and it’s pretty enjoyable, nothing too extreme, I was expecting a little more but it was pretty good for the family. the stairs may get the family tired. they provide the tubes.
