OK so I went to stobys to try the cheese sauce everyone talks about. I got the chips an cheese sauce an to tell the truth wasn’t impressed. So I got a Philly…(game changer) so they have two cheese sauce and then one they put on there Phillies is freaking awesome. They should put that with the chips as well. I almost left after the chips an dip but glad I didn’t. It was really good. I know go there all the time this is the only place to get a Philly this good in town or anywhere around. But here is the TRICK. Don’t go in an order it get it Togo. If u eat it there they out a little bit of sauce on it. BUT if u call it in an get it to go they put a big scoop in a town for you. U can smother you Philly with it an still have some to dip your fries in. Just tell them not to shut the lid on your Togo box or fries get soggy. I would recommend it for sure every time I have family down from out of state we make sure to stop there for the Philly. But like u said we use drive threw haha. Get it Togo kick on the AC an park an enjoy. They staff there are great as well. Always polite an u can tell im a picky guy. Never a problem.

Tl;dr Good food, great atmosphere and service, incredible pie. Stopped through while traveling I-40 on the way back to OKC from Memphis. It was a perfect pit stop for lunch. Super fun restaurant inside of an old rail car, our 1 year old loved the model trains traveling overhead. We started with some cheese dip, which was basically thick Tex-Mex Queso — probably wouldn’t get that again. The Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich, fries, and Chicken Fajita Salad were pretty great, especially for the price. I meant to take a picture of the peanut butter pie because it was incredible, but we ate it all before we got the chance. It was incredible.

Traveling across beautiful Arkansas early in the morning, I saw only chain fast food signs, really depressing. But Russelville had one promising real place to eat, so I stopped at Stoby’s, south of I40 by a few miles. Worth the detour. Located right next to an active RR track, Stoby’s décor is a model train lover’s fantasy, the trains running overhead on several tracks, passing, meeting. There’s a bit of RR clatter in the background. I loved that! I had breakfast: pancakes were a bit heavy but very good, homemade strawberry spread and syrup. Bacon was very good and the coffee, very importantly, was too. Service was friendly and prompt and I would happily return. Arkansas needs more locally owned restaurants.

A must stop every visit to Russellville(4 trips in past 5 years). Good food, appropriate portions & price. Fun ambience with old train car. But, the kids all agree they’ll likely do a crazy college roadtrip to satisfy their Stoby’s pie craving. The peanut butter or flaky traditional crust… the meringue… doesn’t get better!

3 stars is for their breakfast. That have large servings at decent prices. Nothing special or unique about their food or customer service. It’s a good place to go for a Saturday brunch after a late night.

Great service and friendly staff. Tried the spicy white cheese dip which was quite tasty, the regular cheese dip tasted like most other cheese dips, but the spicy white one was pretty unique. Had a club sandwich in an attempt to eat healthy while on a roadtrip. It was very fresh and good quality ingredients. Tried the ranch dressing which was just about the best ranch I’ve ever had. Blew the train whistle which was a lot louder than I expected. While eating we also got to see a small train circling around the ceiling above the booths. Overall a fun stop.

In my opinion Stobys is the best place to eat in Russellville. They have a very good variety of food and I’ve never had a complaint about anything I’ve ever ordered. They have the best ranch dressing I’ve ever had anywhere.

Had a nice meal. Great potato soup, side salad(very tasty honey mustard dressing), chicken quesadilla. That was especially tasty. Also had the possum pie. Might have been road kill. Didn’t even know it was in season.(Just kidding.) Enjoyed it very much. Everyone was real friendly.

We had dinner at Cracker Barrel the night before so we opted for the slightly classier Stoby’s for dinner the following night. Stoby’s has been around for 30+ years, so they must be doing something right, right? The building itself is neat, especially inside with the little trains running around overhead. The«blow a real train whistle» outside is just as annoying as it sounds. I couldn’t resist trying the«famous» cheese dip. To me, it tasted pretty much like ballpark nacho cheese. Not that I don’t like ballpark nacho cheese but it definitely wasn’t something spectacular. If you like cheese, you’ll probably like it. Russellville is located in a dry county*, one that forbids the sale of alcoholic beverages, so no booze options are to be found on the menu. I stuck with water. They have a large menu with lots of comfort food options and some healthier dishes as well. I ordered the smothered chicken which came covered in sautéed bell peppers, onions and mushrooms and topped with melty provolone. On the side, I picked the loaded mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Everything was good and the portions are large. I ended up taking almost half of it to go and ate the leftovers for breakfast the next day. We didn’t save room for dessert but my cousin did tell us that the Possum Pie isn’t actually made from possums. Um, thanks for the clarification. *Yes, dry counties still exist.

Casual fare — good. The cheese dip didn’t WOW me, but it was ok. Had an Applebee’s sort of feel to the food… middle of the road. My chicken Philly was good, I would order again. The Possum Pie was SLAMDUNK… not so much enjoyed the coconut pie.

Growing up in the Russellville area, I have a fondness in my heart for Stoby’s. I’m sure things have changed over the years(prices, food quality, etc), but it’s the nostalgia that keeps bringing me back. I always try to work in a lunch date with family/friends when I get to come home for a visit. I’ve missed the cheese dip since moving far, far away, but I found a replicated recipe online that is a nice substitute in between visits.

The next time you have family coming to town – maybe grandparents or people with kids – you should give Stoby’s some consideration. On my first visit, I immediately noticed two things: the cute trains that run overhead; and the impeccable cleanliness of this restaurant. Every surface – air vents, moldings, and even the train tracks – looked recently scrubbed or dusted. The food at Stoby’s might best be called traditional diner fare. They offer a lot of comfort foods(chicken fried steak, meat loaf, burgers, and the like). They also make some great pastas and even have a fair number of green and healthy options on the menu. Though I haven’t yet tried it out, word on the street is that they do a hell of a breakfast as well. Every employee we encountered was friendly and attentive, most seemed to be local kids attending Arkansas Tech. Don’t forget dessert – they make pies and cakes and I heartily recommend the Possum Pie, which layers cream cheese, chocolate, pecans, and whipped cream on a graham crust. You won’t regret it.

Well… like many of the other reviews for Stoby’s, I really want to give this place a good rating, but I can’t. It is cute, it’s a train car theme that feels comfortable, welcoming and appropriately Southern. Walking in, we were warmly greeted and taken to our table. Our server was great — cute, engaging and personable. The«world famous» cheese dip was disappointing. Upon ordering it, I asked it if was homemade. She didn’t know, but she pondered it for a few seconds and finally settled on «no, it’s not homemade, it comes in a thing.» The cheese dip was very okay, chips were from a bag. Meh. I had the club sandwich. On the menu, its picture is gorgeous and multi-layered. Crispy bacon, perfectly toasted bread, slices of thinly cut deli meats. In reality however, the sandwich was ugly as sin. The lettuce was whole and slopped across the plate, One of the four quarters of the sandwich was about one square inch, the pieces of sandwich were falling apart, the bacon was chewy and gross. It was an unpleasant mess. I am not expecting gourmet food — but it doesn’t take nearly any skill to put together a club sandwich. Layer some bread and meat and cheese and cut it with a sharp knife. Stoby’s has not mastered this.

I wish I could give this restaurant a better rating, but it has drastically worsened in the last 6 months. Our last 3 visits were much alike. The«world famous» cheese dip was cold and thick, the food was bland and cold, and the sweet tea was more like tea-flavored sugar water. We ordered a side of mac & cheese for my 2-year old daughter, and it was almost $ 4 for a small bowl of what was obviously pre-made. I don’t know what happened to make the quality go down so much, but I’ve promised myself that I’ll not eat there again for a long time. Many locals swear by this place, but do yourself a favor and skip it. It’s not as great as it used to be.

While visiting some friends in Russellville, I had the opportunity to visit Stoby’s. It definitely has a small town atmosphere. The restaurant is half building and half train car with a toy train chugging along the perimeter of the dining area. First off, we tried the Stoby’s famous cheese dip with tortilla chips. The cheese was creamy and actually quite delicious. The tortilla chips were the round types that would accompany a nachos at any sport venue. For my meal I ordered the country fried steak with loaded mashed potatoes and corn. The country fried steak was good, but it was a little too heavy on the batter. The corn and loaded mash potatoes were both very good. For dessert, I was able to try the Possum Pie, coconut cream pie, strawberry cake, and a take on a pecan pie with chocolate chips. The coconut cream pie was my favorite with the Possum Pie coming in a close second. Our server was very friendly, but rushed us a bit. With that said, we did have a baby with us, and i do believe she was just trying to anticipate that we were in a hurry. Overall, a good experience in a Russellville, AR.

Stoby’s has great cheese dip. I love their Mexican punch and Cajun Jambalaya. Kids like the trains and the whistle outside.
