I used to play this course in the first years that it opened. Matter of fact, the staff said that I played there more than the members. It was my favorite course in VA and I play a lot of them. I have been away from the area a lot over the last 5 years and played it again yesterday for the first time in a few years. The couse was not up to their old standards. Hadn’t been mowed in a few days, the greens were covered with pine seedlings, and really wasn’t worth the 69 dollar green fees for a Wednesday. Still a great track, just needs the owner to get the staff working again.

One of the best public courses I have ever played. It has a real country club feel. The service and staff were top notch. Also their practice facility is quite good. Grass tees, bunkers, 2 putting greens. PRO — This is a hard course. Well laid out it makes full use of the surrounding terrain. The bunkers are great and the greens roll fast and true. CON — We played 9 holes with no one in front of us — a sub 2 hr 9. Great pace. On number 10 the starter let a 4-some off in front of us who hadn’t played the front. They played a 3 hour back nine. No marshal ever appeared and even though these guys had 3 holes open in front of them they never picked it up.(Its the only reason this isn’t a 5 star rating) I will make the drive here again 2+ hours for me — the course is worth it.

I loved this course. Very tough but very fir. Fairways are terrific, greents rill true… terrific layout. As good as public golf can be!
