Ok. I will start by saying that my experience at the Berkeley Arms has been bitter sweet. I will start with the good. When I first moved in, I loved the high ceilings, the large livingroom and bedroom, decent sized closet and all that stuff that matters to me. Transportation wise this is a commuters dream building. 190 bus stop to NY is across the street from the buiding. I mean right in front. The Rutherford Train Station is appx. 10 blocks away which is not a bad walk at all. Park Avenue is a walk away as well and has everything you can think of from nails salons, restaurants, etc so location wise the Berkeley Arms is awesome. Something else that is great, whenever I have had an issue in the Apt, maintanance comes to the apt right away and takes care of the issue. The bad. The bus being in front of building is great as far as not having to walk much but you will hear the bus come, stop and go every 5 minutes. Very annoying. Especially in the middle of the night. I hear it every hour. The air quality is gross. Filthy dirty nasty scum. We clean the apt and the next day it is dirty again with all windows closed! In the summer you better get 6 air conditioners because the apartment gets so hot muggy and stuffy beyond belief. There is absolutely no air circulation. As far as the trash room being unbearable and smelly and all that, wasnt like that when I moved in. lately yes they have been slacking. The apt looks nice and freshly painted but dont be fooled, I soon realized that they just paint over the damage to cover it up. Our bathroom is falling apart, wood is decaying and just a mess. and last but not least, there are only 3 washing machines and 3 dryers for a 5 floor building. Yes, you read right. Not only is this super inconvenient but also there is a problem with tenants in building leaving their load in the machine once cycle has finished. USually about 15 to 20 minutes, and often up to 30 to 45 minutes. this is unacceptable! I have had to wait hours to do my laundry. Overall, weigh out your options and figure out what is truly important to you in a building before moving in. Hope this helps. :)
