I was expecting more of a kiddie haunt but was extremely surprise with a professional and very well laid out haunt. A haunt that can be enjoyed by adults and kids a like. We will be back next year for sure.

I have been going to Scared by the Sound every year for the past 15 years and each year it gets better and better. The haunt features what seems like 100 real actors in professional make up instead of using masks which makes a much more realistic and scarier atmosphere. The«Maze» is made up of different«scenes» including a creepily realistic morgue among many others. There are props/animintronics/strobes/fog/throughout the entire haunt. Sometimes the wait can be long, especially nearer to Halloween, but it is totally worth it! It was located in Cortland Manor last year but it is now back at Rye Playland. I highly suggest this haunted house as it has been one of the best I have been to in the tri-state area!

A+ job for a creative, scary and ever changing haunted attraction in Westchester, NY. One of the best I’ve seen without the use of extreme gore or kitschy, tired and expected haunted house scares. With the presence of well trained actors and an eye for detail this haunted house tops the charts, a must see if you’re in the Westchester area around Halloween time

Scared by the Sound is an awesome haunted house attraction located at Rye Playland Amusement Park in Rye, NY. For the past 13 years, the amusement park has hosted this attraction during September and October. The first time I went was three years ago, for my birthday. Scared by the Sound used the normal Rye Playland Amusement Park ticket booths, but it was mainly set up in the picnic area. Today, three years later, nothing has changed. People still by the tickets outside of the ice skating rink and then walk down a dark pathway towards the entrance to the attraction. Scared by the Sound is a very funny, creative and creepy(not TOTALLY scary) haunted house that costs $ 16 for adults($ 12 for kids). You walk through the winding hallways, secret passageways and sections of the house and eventually make it to an outdoor graveyard. The whole walk takes about 10 – 15 minutes, depending on how slow you move(and you SHOULD move slowly). The actors do a terrific job of scaring the guests and being funny at the same time. Last year and this year I went with my friends and father, and we always have a great time. We never really get SCARED, but there are a few jump scare spots that really work. As for presentation, Scared by the Sound does a terrific job. All of the rooms are custom designed and super-creative. They range from haunted winery basements and libraries to spinning light tunnels and laser rooms. The first time you go, the rooms are going to blow your mind. There are often little details(like fake newspaper clippings about murders at the amusement park) hanging around for people to see, but sometimes the actors rush you out of the room before you have a chance to fully take everything in. Another small problem is that they don’t really change much between seasons. Last year’s version and this year’s version are pretty much the same thing, but that only matters if you’re a return guest. A little more change every season would be helpful. Those are the only complaints I have about Scared by the Sound. This year, they announced the creation of a second attraction, The Demented Pumpkin Patch and Terror Trail. It’s an extra $ 12 for this attraction, but I unfortunately have to say that it isn’t worth the money. The entire thing lasted about five minutes. You walk through three rows of custom carved styrofoam pumpkins(which were gorgeously done, to give them credit), two rows of people jumping out at you, and a one-room slaughter house. That’s it. I think that they hoped to make some extra money this season, but this is absolutely not worth it. It’s over before you know it and not scary at all. I recommend going to Scared by the Sound by itself and enjoying that. The second attraction would only be worth it if it was $ 5. Again, it looks great, but it’s over before you know it. All in all, Scared by the Sound is a great experience for friends and families, and you will definitely have fun for those 10 – 15 minutes!
