I went in to take a trial membership and this middle-aged brunette was very rude to me. She made me feel very unwelcome, and I had no interest in getting to know what the membership entails. I tried to talk to a lovely young gentleman over the phone named Dwayne, and he was very helpful. I also got to meet him in person. Even when he was trying to assist me, this rude brunette kept interjecting and would not step down. Because of her aggressive behavior, it totally turned me off, and I decided not to go for the membership.

I’ve been a member of this location for 3yrs. I only use Swim pool so I’m not sure how the other equipment are like but staffs are all kind and friendly.

This place is just not for me. Parking anytime between 5−7PM on a weekday is impossible. The lot isn’t big enough for everyone and people picking up their kids make the problem even worse by clogging up what little space there is in the lot. Street parking is even iffy because of everyone forced out of the lot. I also came on a Sunday morning and found the same problem. This is the worst when trying to make it to a fitness class because you never know how long it will take to park or how far away you will end up. Once you get inside the place is complete and utter chaos with screaming kids running around everywhere. While the fitness equipment is newer, the facility itself is very old and shabby. The sign up for cardio equipment is completely idiotic and unecessary. You can sign up for 30 min at a time and if you come after :15 and :45 after the hour you can hop on a piece of equipment if it is empty and sign up for the next slot(so if you come at 6:50 you can hop on a machine by signing up for 7 – 7:30). Unfortunately I usually got there at :05, :10, or say, :35 and be unsure of what to do. After getting kicked off my machine at :01 with only 2 minutes leftt, I typically just signed up for 2 increments(the second one scribbling illegible initials in messier handwriting) at a time to cover myself. As for the classes, I tried 4 different spin instructors and only 1 was good — I highly recommend Teresa’s class, I had a puddle of sweat under my bike by the end and she played semi-decent music. I never understand why instructors play slow music during a class, even during a seated climb I like the music pounding. After being a member just over a month I put my 30 days notice in. Once again I have learned you get what you pay for and will go crawling back to Equinox.

Eh, it’s not worth the cost if you don’t have kids and/or a family membership. I tried going today, forgetting there was a Halloween costume party. The parking lot was packed, cars were double-parked all over. I ended up turning around and going home. I’m not sure why they couldn’t have had the party later — the place closes at 6:30 on Sundays. Needless to say, I was more than a little annoyed that I couldn’t work out at the gym I pay a monthly membership fee to work out at. There are a ton of classes(the free ones) available, but most of the teachers are mediocre at best. I tried 3 or 4 different spin classes and none were as good as the ones I took at my old gym(NYSC in New Rochelle). One teacher’s music was so bad that I considered leaving the class early. I’m sorry, but I can’t listen to slow music when I’m working out, let alone spinning. There are one or two good yoga teachers — Bill teaches an excellent yin yoga class on Sundays that I will miss when I switch(which I’m seriously considering). But there is at least one terrible teacher as well — I think she teaches the Hatha class on Thurs. It was like, yoga for people who don’t want to move. I didn’t feel slightly worked out, and it was a waste of time. Zumba teachers are all pretty mediocre. My bf love zumba(I know, weird for a guy, right?) and he tried all of them but didn’t think any of them were very good. The pool is decent and most times not too crowded, especially if you go on off-hours(not right after or before working hours). HOWEVER, if you happen to go when its busy, don’t expect people to share the lane and/or abide by regular pool etiquette. And don’t expect lifeguards to help either. I went once when it was PACKED and two people who were splitting the lane REFUSED to acknowledge me and start circling. Maybe I’m just crazy, but in all the pools I’ve swam laps in, two people split the lane, and three or more circle in the lane. I ended up joining some women who were circling, and one of them was PASSING others. Isn’t the point of having fast/medium/slow lanes so that you swim with others at the same speed and that dangerous behavior is avoided? Paid classes– I only took an intermediate swim class. It was fine. The big bummer is that there is a YMCA near where I work that offers all sorts of dance classes, but there’s NO discount for being a Y member, and you have to pay the nonmember price! You’d think that for $ 70/month you’d be part of the Y network and get member prices at other Y’s. When I lived elsewhere — CA and VA, being a Y member meant that I could go to ANY of the area Y’s. I don’t understand why it’s so different in Westchester. So yeah, the LA Fitness a few minutes away in Port Chester is around $ 30 less a month. I’m planning to switch over.

Everything about this place is superb: parking, 2 well-maintained pools, clean showers and lockers, up-to-date exercise machines, plenty of programs for all age groups. I only use the facilities during lunch time, but the place seems vibrant all the time, with community outreach(they opened up the facilities for use during the Sandy blackout) and a very proactive administration and staff that reaches out. This Y has its act together, and it shows. Oh, and it’s all for a very reasonable fee of about $ 70 /month.

This Is a very good Y. Not state of the art but modern enough. Nice location off of purchase street with pleasant views of trees and a brook from the fitness center The childcare is outstanding.
