Adventure Boot Camp

About a year an half ago I tried Adventure bootcamp with a girlfriend when a groupon came out and we have been addicted ever since! Granted, I have taken many breaks in between, to try other work out routines but for some reason I always seem to come back to this one. I even signed up for the super intense, six-​week/​five days a week, all girl work out group «KAIA FIT» hoping to get into the best shape of my life, but for many reasons (that I won’t get into here) I didn’t stick with it and still chose to come back to this one right after I left that group.
Adventure bootcamp is just a more laid back version of KAIA fit. All the girls who come are super chill, come in all shapes and ages, are encouraging and are there to truly just get into beast mode and work out. Period. This is definitely a no-​frills class: it takes place twice– three times a week at a local elementary school campus and we workout to music on a portable boom-​box with an iPod. But don’t let the modesty of this program make you think any less of it. The instructor, Anthony, comes up with structured routines that constantly keep you guessing and shock different parts of your body. I have seen a definite difference in my strength and endurance since joining his class, and I am a workout-​aholic. I definitely recommend this bootcamp to any girl who wants to get into some serious shape, or who just wants to add some intense cross-​training to your routine.

This is a great bootcamp for beginners. Anthony isn’t a man of many words and just makes you work out. I would have like more feedback from him during the workouts, like letting me know if my form is right or asking about your fitness goals. Although I always left sweaty and accomplished, I wanted more of a trainer that knew what I wanted out of working out. If you are ready for the next step in your fitness journey, then I would recommend some other bootcamp that incorporates more weights since Adventure is mostly small weights.

This is the first boot camp I’ve attended, but I think it’s great. Anthony creates new ways of torturing us with really creative and demanding workouts. No two classes have been the same, and I am almost always sore because the workouts are fantastic. He allows people to work at their own pace, but is also encouraging. I highly recommend!

In a life long battle against ice cream and rice krispies treats I’ve always been on the losing end… and I don’t mean losing as in losing pounds. This battle has caused me to throw money down the drain due to gym memberships, equipment, trainers you name it. It wasn’t until I started working with Anthony and Adventure Boot Camp that I finally started seeing substantial results. I’ve been going to boot camp with him since April of 2011 and so far I have lost almost 50 lbs and I am still losing. The program is formed to minimize plateaus and keep things fun.
I’m the type to get bored very easy and Anthony keeps the work outs structured and ever changing which helps out a lot. I’m glad I found this program and I intend to keep going because I keep seeing results. When I started working out with Anthony I would get winded after running a tenth of mile but I was able to complete a 5k of straight running this month and I’m signed up for my first 10k, and I know it has so much to do with Anthony! He was also there running with all of us, an volunteered his free time to offer free running training to the campers and our family and friends.
If you want someone yelling and pressuring you to lose weight for them this isn’t the boot camp for you. However, if your looking for someone to hold you accountable for your progress with gentle guidance then sign up, you won’t regret it!

As it should be, this boot camp kicks your butt and really pushes you. My initial thought when warming up was that it was going to be easy, but it turned out to be tough and challenging. I really felt the burn haha, and was pretty sore the next day. Another good thing about this boot camp is that it really is for all levels. Those in shape will get just as much of a work out as beginners and it is achievable for all. Initially I was a bit confused as to how we were going to have the boot camp outside in the winter, but I ended up enjoy this part of the boot camp a lot. You warm up quick and its a nice change from the usual gym atmosphere.
My one criticism of the boot camp is that the instructor does not focus on proper form. I see many girls doing the exercises wrong and not getting the full impact and results because their form in incorrect.
But overall, I enjoy the work outs!

I’ve been doing this boot camp for about 8 months now. When I started it was only supposed to be for 1 month, but I was hooked by the end of my first month and despite now the cold weather and rain, I still love it. I have finally found a way to consistently workout and enjoy it, and went down 2 dress sizes.
The main reason this camp is so great is because of Anthony, the owner/​boot camp instructor. He is the nicest man who makes exercising enjoyable. He has a great attitude about working out and makes it fun (that 1 hour flies by). I really can’t say enough about this boot camp, it is truly fantastic.

I’ve been attending for almost 9 weeks now (one week into my third session) and I love it! I’m a runner and I joined after the Urban Cow half marathon because I am the laziest cross trainer in the world and desperately needed to remedy that to improve my overall fitness!
Each class is different, and while challenging – *ahem* difficult – you are able to work at your own pace and level as needed. I think it is a great value for the price. I do 8 classes per session, but it is flexible in that I can take any 8 classes (am or pm) anytime during the 4 weeks of the session. Also, Anthony (the trainer) is great. It is called «bootcamp,» but there is no yelling in your face or unreasonable requests. He is quite encouraging; a common line is, «Way to work, ladies», but when we moan about difficult exercises his favorite line is «You’ll be alright». I jokingly say that he is a sadist, but if you are an exercise instructor and enjoy your job, you have to take some pleasure in seeing others in pain – even if it is the good kind of character-​building, ab-​toning, booty-​tightening pain. Also, this may not matter to some, but if an instructor isn’t doing the exercises with me, I like to feel confident that he/​she would be able to if they wanted. Otherwise, when I am asked to do something difficult (that my lazy brain says is unreasonable) I am less likely to give it a real try. Anthony is in good shape and though I haven’t seen it, I feel confident that he is able to do our most difficult exercises (and MUCH more).
Furthermore, the camaraderie is great. It is nice to work out with other women who share the goal of being fit and healthy!
I do wish that there were more classes on the schedule (e.g. a Friday morning class would be great), but even with a busy work and travel schedule, I have found that fewer classes gives me fewer excuses to hit the snooze button and miss 5:30 am class or head home to watch what’s on my DVR instead of going to the 6pm class.

I find the «yay, I’m a fan» aspect of four stars is not entirely true here. Adventure Boot Camp was cool and all, helpful and ineresting, but fuck working out. I don’t feel the euphoria. I don’t feel energized after and I don’t like to run. I prefer things like watching The Walking Dead on Sunday nights and perhaps taking my dog for a stroll through Land Park while I chain smoke and play with my phone. I like the simple things: ease and assurance, art and movies. That said, I have to write this because I always will Unilocal about something when the owner of a business or, in this case, charming and encouraging fitness instructor asks people to.

The sister-​in-​law roped me into this endeaver after finding a smoking deal on one of those websites that gives you deals on things. I accepted reluctantly as I hear working out his good for you and whatnot and I do enjoy new experiences, even if they include doing laps in the cold around an elementary school at seven at night after working nine hours. These are the things that normal people do. They exercise, the drink tea instead of liquor and they think positive things about the government.
Ahem, anyways, having lackluster exercise habits was somewhat of a concern as well as the term «boot camp» which instantly made me think of Full Metal Jacket. Getting yelled at makes me cry. Luckily, the instructor was totally laid back and nice, encouraging and funny.
I won’t lie, the first class kicked my ass, but as they continued shit got easier, exercises got more familiar, and I am happy to say I can totally do, like, 15 plank extensions without stopping. It was a good experience and I think a good kick start to knock your shit into shape and make way for an easier and more perpetual work out routine.
He also encouraged comradery amongst the women, forcing us into group situations in which you had to introduce yourself and all. As I am socially retarded I didn’t like this part– but whatever– I can see how it’s a good idea.
Structured work out sessions are totally necessary for me, personally, as I generally only do shit that sucks when I’m forced to, so if you’re lazy about keeping up with fitness or a procrastinator, I strongly suggest boot camp as way to, you know, get the fuck up and go do sprint relays for an hour.

I loved boot camp! It’s a great workout that’s always changing and easily adjusted for all fitness levels, and the trainers are awesome – encouraging, friendly, and they know just when to push you. I’d give ‘em one more star if the hours were a little more flexible or more classes were offered.

I just completed one month here at the downtown location (I think there may be more than one??). I’m not going to lie, its not cheap, but it IS comparable in price to any other sort of boot camp or training class I’m aware of. I bought a promotional deal through Groupon, and it was a REALLY good deal. I may end up going back, but it doesn’t work too well if you have a lot of prior commitments or an active schedule.
I happen to prefer working out in a class/​instructor type situation because if I don’t, one of two things will happen. a. I’ll crap out and not finish my sets or reps, or b. I’ll just waste time not knowing whats most effective or what to do next. These guys led the class in a timely manner, the routines varied from day to day (which I also like because I get bored pretty easily), and they got progressively more difficult as the weeks went on. I also thought it was helpful that they had modified exercise options for people with back, knee or shoulder, etc. problems. Oh yeah– and they weren’t «drill sergeants” — also a plus.
