Thanks to Chocolate Fish(coffee shop), I’ve been introduced to Bennett’s… especially the apricot rugalach.(It’s a Yiddish or Jewish pastry; the translation is ‘little twist’.) Like a croissant, it has a crispy, flaky outside. Inside is a semi-sweet strudel-style filling and soft, rolled dough.(If the filling was any sweeter, I doubt I would have liked this little snack so much!) I also detected what I would have guessed was cream cheese — but I think this had no dairy ingredients, and still may be kosher.

3 words. Lemon. Poppyseed. Muffin. Not soggy like Naked muffins. Not saturated with butter like Old Soul’s. Not encrusted in sugar like the blueberry or cranberry orange one. Pure deliciousness, goes perfect with your coffee. This is coming from a Naked-obsessed-die-hard-advocate-of-Old-Soul(holy God Old Soul bread, croissants, and mocha’s are good). But strictly speaking muffins, Bennett’s LPS(lemon poppyseed) is the way to go. Note: Bennett’s is wholesale only, but you can find their pastries at the Sacramento Co-op or Chocolate Fish($ 1 for yesterday’s pastries).
