Oh my GOD this place is a little bit of a disappointment. Never any fresh ingredients. And there was fish that had gone bad in my SOs spider roll. It was not great… I keep giving it chances though, just because it’s open so late. But what can ya do… At least their prices are super reasonable.

We walked in and instantly were berated by the loudest 90s music ever where we couldn’t even hear each other talk. The atmosphere feels like a McDonald’s in Times Square, but the service was good enough and the food was surprisingly really good for the most part. Which is where the three stars come in. Otherwise it would have been one star. It was loud, felt unclean everywhere including the bathroom, the menu had like 1700 items on it, and entirely over priced. We’ll never go back.

I have eaten here almost every single week with my boy friend for the last year. We absolutely love the sushi chefs that work here but if you don’t sit at the bar the service is absolutely horrendous. They keep raising the prices of the«half off» sushi which is now the same price as a sushi roll at Mikuni. The quality is not that great for the price, I used to come here because it was less expensive and I let the not so great service and food slide but now that the prices are equivalent to Mikuni across the street. The price is not worth the sushi or the service. I will no longer be eating at Bento Box.

Excellent service and very good food. Little pricey but sushi is always expensive. Full bar, recommend the red Dragon cocktail and same bombs :-) hard to find parking around here though, and the parking garage near by costs $ 10. Would definitely recommend!

Visited Bento Box for lunch buffet. The restaurant décor is modern dimly lit with a lot of Christmas type lights on tree sculptures. High ceiling and wide open seating, no booths. The Sushi bar seats about 12 people. The lunch buffet table has about 8 hot entrees and 2 soups. You can select from about 8 type of sushi from the Sushi Bar. Once seated you can also order rolled sushi from the Sushi Bar off of a select list, but only 1 order at a time. There is a desert bar, but I didn’t visit it. The food is very fresh and delicious. The service is fast and friendly.

Where do I start… Came here for lunch today with 2 girlfriends. Was seated within a few minutes by the hostess who said a server would be with us and showed us where the lunch buffet was and the server would tell us about the other rolls we could order. We went to make plates from the buffet which consisted of a salad bar, hot food(rice, egg rolls, chicken, etc) and some very basic rolls. Food was nothing outstanding. tasted like food you would get at a grocery store who has a chinese hot food section. Went back to the table to eat and still no server… we had to flag down the server to bring us water. The server brought water and walked away. I had to call him back over to ask about the other rolls included in the lunch buffet. He handed me a piece of paper from his pocket and said we can mark which rolls we want but it would be a while because they have a lot of orders coming in. We immediately filled out what we wanted and handed it back to him. 30 minutes go by and still no food… we only have an hour for lunch and had already been there for about 20 minutes so needed to get back to work. We then had to flag down our server(who does a very good job at ignoring customers) and asked when our rolls would come out. He went to check and came back and said they are on ticket 21 and we were ticket 29. We explained we had to get back to work and if we could get it to go. he said they couldn’t do that and we would get a discount instead. We asked for the check and he walked away. We then saw him taking other orders, giving people menu’s and filling water… after we told him we needed to go because we were going to be late to work. We flagged him down yet again and asked for the check. 5 more minutes go by… I had to get up, find the manager and ask for the check. Needless to say we were 15 minutes late to work. There is no sense or urgency with the workers. It’s like they move in slow motion. You would think they would be prepared for the lunch crowd to hit, but that definately was not the case. Worse customer service ever! Will not be returning.

***WARNING!!! DONOTEATHERE!**** I just recently visited bento box after work yesterday around 10pm. I had terrible service which I brought to the attention of a staff member. But to make matters worse I woke up with sharp pains in my stomach and throwing up fish. Well I have had to miss work and have not left the bathroom or my bed since 430 am and it’s around 7pm. I’ll most likely end up missing work tomorrow. I will never visit this establishment again. And rumor has it they are having a hard time staying up to track with their lease and receiving the fish they need. I only doing this out after I ate there and the food poisoning it salmonella. The rolls I had were the piano and the the blue Hawaiian! STAYAWAYFROMTHEFISH!!!

Wasn’t impressed at all by my visit to Bento Box. There was a convention going on, and it’s one that occurs every year so it shouldn’t be a shock or surprise that it’s happening and the staff should be prepared. After getting seated, we waited about 15 minutes to get a drink order in, and even then the waitress took our food order, and then said she nearly forgot to ask what drinks we wanted. After waiting another 15 minutes we got three glasses of water(signs say water will only be served upon request due to the drought, guess not?) the green tea I ordered, and that’s it. My friend asks about the Dr. Pepper she ordered and is told, «Oh yeah we’re out of Mr. Pibb.» Really? Didn’t feel like telling us or anything? We ordered our food and it arrived hot, it was tasty, though the appetizer arrived after the main meal, which was awkward. Finally we finish our meal, and wait about 20 minutes for the check. We get it, and then sit there for another 20 waiting for the waitress to come back, with not a staff member in sight. Okay, I guess I’ll just take the check up to the front. I go to the front of the place with the bill, and the girl at the front is prioritizing the phone over live customers, while my party finishes up. Okay, guess that’s how they operate, not a big deal. My party finishes up and I notice our table is cleaned immediately after we leave. After standing there for another 10 minutes or so, what I can assume is the manager, a guy with long hair and an open shirt, comes up, and asks if I need help. I say I’m trying to pay, and he acts offended and says, «You pay at the table.» I reply that we waited ages, and he then demands my card and the ticket. I try to tell him that the lady at the front is taking care of it and he starts scoffing and making rude faces. We pay the bill, walk out, and agree we probably won’t be back. Rated 2 stars for the food, service is some of the worst I’ve ever had

We had a large group at Bento Box during a Sunday evening happy hour. Rolls are half price during happy hour. I had a Caterpillar roll and the appetizer sampler. Both were tasty. A happy hour deuce deuce Kirin was $ 5.50. The rolls are the better deal. There is seating for groups. The service was good, but of course there were some delays in dealing with 20+ people. They have a full bar and clean bathrroms.

A friend and I decided to try this place out because its always packed so I figured it MUST be good. Welp, I was mistaken. I mean, it wasn’t bad but if most def wasn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had. It was mediocre at best. I figured out that its always packed because of their happy hour. The prices on the sushi as well as the beer are cheap but I guess the old adage, ‘You get what you pay for’ comes into play here. Our server was nice, checked in with us several times after she delivered our order. I like when servers and/or wait staff checks in regularly! I mean, you never know when your gonna need more beer! Or in my case, another set of chops sticks since I dropped one of mine on the floor. Yup! Super Clutz here at your service, lol. Only other negative is that I requested a frosty mug for my beverage(beer in a freezing mug is the BESSSSST!) However, when the drink was delivered, it was in a room temperature glass and the beer warmed quickly. EWW. The rolls we ordered all kind of seemed the same but with different sauces on them. Weird, I know but! I swear they all looked the same inside! I think I need to order more beer than sushi next time… maybe the sushi will taste better after 5 drinks?

If I could, I would rate this place 3.5 stars, but since that’s not an option, I’ll round up to 4 stars. I’ve been meaning to eat here for a while since I work nearby, and finally gave it a shot today. I will say that the food was very good. If you can overlook a few kinks in their operations, it’s definitely a tasty place to eat. The hostess was not overly friendly and she looked like she had just rolled out of bed. She was wearing an army-style jacket with an over-sized, wrinkled plain white t-shirt underneath. It would have been easier to overlook it if her attitude had been better. I was dining alone and she wanted to seat me at the sushi bar. Since I’m short, I am not able to sit comfortably in those tall chairs. She did accommodate my request though and sat me at a table. As other reviewers have noted, the table service is slow. I sat for about 10 minutes just waiting to order. They don’t have enough wait staff on duty for lunch. It’s a large restaurant but they only had 2 wait staff on duty. The waitress brought my sushi rolls out first, but she put them on the table and walked away… but she didn’t bring wasabi or ginger. So I had to wait with my sushi in front of me until she came back. This shouldn’t have happened. But the rolls were very good; my bento box arrived shortly after and it was delicious. I didn’t like the loud music they were playing; the music combined with the conversation of 30+ people dining/talking made for a very loud environment. Also, I don’t understand why so many restaurants feel the need to have TV’s all over the place… this place had lots of TVs with sports on them, something I do not enjoy. P. S. I also noted that they had a tip calculator on the bottom of the receipt. While I usually find this very helpful, I noted that they were basing the tip calculation on the after-tax total, not the pre-tax total. I found this to be misleading and sneaky. Tips are usually calculated on pre-tax food/drink totals.

We always come here late night, there aren’t many choices after 9PM in Sacramento, I may have said that in my other reviews but unfortunately it’s the truth. Regardless, this place always have the best sushi in town. Especially, all sushi rolls are half price everyday. The service is exceptional, all servers are very polite & knowledgeable. Tonight Jasmine served us, she was a delight. We(three of us), had garlic butter edamame, slider roll, yellowstone & chef special roll(see pic). They also have good choices for bento boxes, they are pretty cheap even @ full price. One of the server was eating next to us on the bar & offered us taste of her food, that was very nice of her. Actually, we did not know that she worked there but figured it out after she finished her break & started weighting tables again. So sweet:) Overall, you cannot go wrong with this place.

Food and pricing was good, however, I was a bit disappointed in the service this time. We had a reserved birthday dinner for my husband and I asked in advance if they had any birthday dessert, they said yes. When we arrived, we were told they didn’t have any birthday dessert. Everyone one who ordered sushi got their food much later than everyone who got bento. Once we finished our food, they rushed us with the bill and didn’t even ask if we wanted dessert… despite saying it was my husband’s birthday and asking about the birthday dessert at the beginning. Probably won’t have another event here in the future.

Affordable rolls(all 50% off) and better quality than Arigato Sushi. But not as great as Sapporo. However, I give it 4 stars because it’s affordable to where the rolls are still good quality sushi. I’m not complaining. I ordered the Korean tacos. They were small but filled with meat and it was rather good. I tried the Blue Hurricane roll for the first time and it was so good. I liked the lemon after taste :) It’s very loud in this restaurant with music playing. So we end up talking way louder than usual. They managed to make it sound like a live band. Happy hr menu is pretty great. I like the 99 cents sake bomb. Mon to thurs 9 to midnight. Fri to sun starts at 11pm. Adding on: they recently added an all you can eat lunch buffet for $ 14.99 a person. You get access to hot foods, sushi rolls, special rolls, and salad bar. The selection was good but the only thing I was disappointed about was that the hot foods were not refilled; therefore, there were small quantities. Drinks not included in price.

The sushi is really good here and it’s always half off, can’t beat that! Also, I really enjoy the cucumber cooler so if you’re into mixed drinks def give that one a try.

The first time I came here I was appalled. I am no sushi connoisseur, but one thing I knew is cream cheese and mozzarella cheese does not go with sushi. I was then informed they have vegetarian rolls. Doesn’t that erase the name sushi as rolls are supposed to contain some form of fish?! We looked through the long menu and found something that sounded appealing. Since then I have been back 2 more times. This time I ordered the garlic butter Edamame and a roll.(I can’t recall the name and for some unknown reason I can’t locate their website with a menu.) The Edamame was a good portion, big enough for two. They were firm, but cooked enough to eat. I would order them again. The roll was just the right size, as that was all I ordered for lunch. Some of their rolls are on the small size, and we understand as they are always 50% off. The roll was only $ 6. I much better deal then up the street. They wanted to charge over $ 10 for the same roll. I was really satisfied with my visit. It was exactly as I had envisioned. The food was delicious. The only thing I’d change was to turn down the music when there are under 10 people in the restaurant. We had just missed the lunch hour and were able to get a seat soon as we walked in. There was a couple of parents there brining their child for a snack/lunch after school. The music wasn’t unbearably loud, but could be turned down a notch. It’s downtown and I have to say we lucked out and parked right across the street near the cross walk.

As a regular here, it hurts only giving this place 3 stars. The sushi is SO incredibly good, and if you eat in the restaurant all sushi rolls are 50% off! Personally, my girlfriend and I get the dragon roll and the king kong rolls(when they are half off, dinner is under $ 25 bucks for two!). The reason they don’t have five stars? The service… The staff is super nice, the have interesting waiters who remember your orders. but getting someone to actually come to your table is the struggle. The food takes a long time to get to the table as well… it seems as though every time we are finally sick of waiting the food finally gets to your table and MANISITGOOD UPDATE: if you sit at the bar, the whole waiting and customer service issue is completely gone. Regular wait times, got served immediately, sushi chef was friendly and made the best rolls I’ve ever had here. Bump up from 3 stars to 5

The kappa roll may be basic but this place sure is not. $ 1 sake bombs and everything that’s a sushi roll is 50% off. Does that mean crappy food? No, it means good food but a bad reputation(yes, that was a dig at my co workers). They all go to Mikunis and their $ 13-$ 15 prices. As a college student however, I have a budget but what’s better than a good sushi place that’s 50% off everyday? I don’t know, do you? I’ve been here three times. The first time was when some friends of mine were here. We all did not know anything about Sacramento so we went to the only restaurant that was open at 10pm; this one. We all ordered sake bombs(because they were $ 1). Someone also pointed out the section of the menu labeled«basic» had a roll called«kappa»(and as a member of kappa at USC, she was not amused). One friend though kept ordering at the counter and got whatever she wanted whenever she wanted(we all had to wait). Then again, as a kappa might say, she usually gets 100+ likes on all her FB/Instagram posts so she’s doing something right(something that I aspire to but happens less than I would like). The second time was this summer when my friend was done with her internship. I was scared of spicy foods after a previous experience so I ordered the Alaska roll and my friend ordered the spicy crab. I loved the spicy crab but was not into the Alaska roll(the makeup of the roll was terrible). My friend tried it though and she loved it anyway. The third time I was here, I knew exactly what to do. I sat down with my fellow intern and ordered the spicy crab. It was great as usual. My fellow intern however ordered a bento box which does not have the 50% off rule. He seemed to like it but I think I’ll stick with my cheap and good crab roll. So while the quality of the place is about four stars, I’m giving it five because 1. It’s mainly for my coworkers who don’t like it. 2. They always say cheap, good and fast pick two, this place does all three. Thanks!

Sorry Bento… it’s not you, it’s me. I see lots of people coming into your restaurant at lunch and in the evening, so it’s good to know you are doing well without me… The sushi rolls here are bad. Like LOTS of sauce, and cream cheese, and falling-apart-while-eating bad. Well, it could be good, if you’re into those things, but it’s not my type of sushi fare. The menu is expansive and diverse. And when I say diverse, it really is: chicken noodles(Chinese), bi bam bop(Korean), bento boxes(Japanese), spring rolls(Vietnamese) — but mostly Japanese! The space is also huge, so great for groups. The restaurant fits in with its neighboring L street restaurants: trendy but casual. Knocking down a star for mixed service here. Again, sorry Bento for the low rating, but I’m just not feeling the food!

The happy hour is attractive for its half price. But it doesnt mean that customers have to wait 45 min without getting anything!!! To be honest, what can you do so wrong with sushi? So what counts for Sushi restaurant is absolutely educated personal and professioncy, which that Bento box indeed lacks! I would choose to go than eat in anyways the next time!
