Big O Tires

Bessie felt left out this Christmas and she needed a Christmas present as well… so two tires it is for the girl…
I was given great service by the lady who assisted me.
Took them about an hour to change my tires and give the girl a diagnostic, etc.
Great service, great neighborhood, Trader Joes is right down the street. So I went walking down that way and checked out East Sac.
Will definitely be back.

So I went to Big O in need of a couple new front tires, and had already priced and reserved them in advance. I arrived at 8 a.m. on the dot and handed the attendant my work order. She then stated that they would rotate the back tires to the front and put the new ones on back. After I insisted the new ones go on the front and getting «approval» from another guy, my car was taken into the garage. I was also told that they would do a free alignment inspection as most of the other reviews point out. In fact, the guy who just brought his car in for an oil change also got a free alignment check. EVERYONE gets a free alignment check, and of course, everyone needed an adjustment. After seeing this go on and knowing what the outcome of my free check would be, I politely declined and was out of there in about an hour. Besides, I just had some major front-​end work by my regular (and awesome) mechanic, so if the alignment was off, it couldn’t be by much.
The Pros: Fairly quick, good selection, a waiting area with mags and a TV, and the initial sales attendant I worked with the day before was very nice (and not argumentative).
The Cons: THE ALIGNMENT UPSELL!!! I went from feeling confident with my decision to go to Big O, to not really trusting them. There was a constant feeling of «what are they going to try to sell me next?» And the insistence of rotating the old back tires to the front where they would wear out quicker and I’d have to replace those shortly… seeing a pattern here.
If this review sounds wishy-​washy and disjointed, it’s because that’s how I felt after I left. I don’t know if I’ll go back here; however, I did get a service plan on the tires so at some point it may be necessary. And yes, I realize the upsell piece is not specific to this establishment, but it was definitely more pronounced here. I’m going with 3 stars for the quick service, and the really good customer service I received on my initial visit to price and reserve the tires.

Called this morning and spoke to the manager RJ about a leak and burnt smell coming from my engine. As always, staff was awesome. They offered to look at my vehicle and check out the issue. I never feel like I am being oversold. Going back next week for more work to correct an oil leak. Staff makes me feel like my car is always in good hands. I highly recommend them to everyone I know!

I have been coming here for several years for tires and oil change. Now with no appointments for oil changes I am spent over 2 ½ hours for a oil change and they just increased the prices the prepaid 5 oil changes for $ 100 i bougt lastyear did not cover the new prices. this will be the last time I use this big o I’ll go back to the one downtown.

Im surprised by all the bad reviews they were great over the phone with answering all my qusetion… an on top of that when i got there they were exceptional with customer service and super speedy and efficient. Lila was a fantastic help with all me needs as well as a wonderful face to see when i walk in… smiles are always the best!!!

Kind of have a feeling I just got hosed by these guys. Had a tire get a little shredded due to a bad parking job. Took it in to be replaced. Ended up getting an alignment as well. Within a week I noticed a repetitive «wubba wubba wubba» noise and shuddering when I braked. Took it back then got the dreaded call saying I needed; 4 new tires, rear and front brakes, shocks and struts all which would be $ 1500. WHAT!!! I just bought a new tire now I need 4 more? Ended up going with the shocks and struts, 1 new tire and the brakes for $ 1021. I don’t know any better and do a lot of commuting so I needed to have the issue fixed, but I bet a lot of that was unnecessary for a car with only 26k on it.

I am shocked by all of the bad reviews on here! Nick Porter helped me over the phone and when I arrived. He was SOOOOO helpful and friendly. He truly is the best employee here. He was so busy when I arrived and when he asked for help from others they responded, «I am not clocked in yet.» so Nick continued to help me and make me his number one priority even though the phone was ringing off the hook he kindly placed people on hold. Amidst the chaos, Nick remained calm and provided me with exceptional customer service. He thoroughly explained everything to me, and answered all of my questions. 5 stars for Nick Porter!
Marcell was the driver who drove me back to work and also picked me up at the end of the day to bring me back to my car. Marcell was hilarious and made the car ride enjoyable. He is friendly, talkative, and a good driver. 5 stars for Marcell!

I never feel happy bringing my car here. I live just a couple blocks away, so there’s a convenience to the location, but I always feel like I’m a bother and they have better things to do.
I’ve purchased tires with an extended warranty here twice, and when there’s trouble, they always seem to find some reason why the warranty doesn’t apply in that case.
Les Schwab has always handled their tire issues with a smile and easy replacement. I feel like with Big O, it’s a «Prove It’s Our Fault» attitude, instead of Schwab’s «How can we help you» approach.
I had another incident years ago where I brought my car in for a routine oil change, and my car made unholy noises when I drove it off. I brought it back and they figured it was some problem with the way they changed the power steering fluid (which I didn’t ask for) and since all of the technicians were gone for the day, I had to wait. This was the day before we had to leave on a road trip for Christmas vacation, and they didn’t want to stick around and fix it, because it was closing time. We had to use a different car and wait until we returned afte the holidays to address this.
When I brought it back, they tried to tell me it was my problem until I reminded them what happened.
Looking back, the only reason I come here is because they’re so close. No more.

tldr; Big 0 recommend over $ 1000 in unnecessary repairs. They also attempted to slander another local business.
September 2015 — I went in with a concern with my brakes and/​or tires. I had my front brake pads and front struts replaced at another business in the spring of 2015. For the purposes of understanding the following review, you need to know that the rotor must be resurfaced when new brake pads are put on. This is both industry standard and a matter of safety.
I went to Big O, and I was told to drive a technician around the block so he could get a feel for the braking issues. He could not feel anything. When we got out, he showed me that one tire (that was considerably flat) was wearing bald in one area, which was an indication that i needed alignment work done. ok. sounds good. the tire is flat, he said, bc there is a hole that cannot be patched (i.e. screw in the side wall, etc), the tire must be replaced. ok.
Big O puts my car up and runs a free diagnostic of my car, and comes back with the following recommended work items:
back struts
back brake pads
all rotors
4 new tires
alignment work
the repairs they are recommending total over $ 1500.
here’s where ish gets real bad:
***additionally, big o make it very clear to me that the previous business performed a «pad slap,» meaning they did not resurface the rotors when they replaced the brake pads. they show me that the remaining rotors measure 0.930″. they cannot resurface them with that measurement, they said, to make up for the shotty work i had done, so the rotors must be replaced altogether. this would save the new pads i already paid for.
i am furious with the other company, and ask big o what i can do, as a consumer, to hold them accountable. they tell me the first step is to go back and raise my concerns with them: that is, my rotors were not resurfaced at the time of brake pad replacement, i was CHARGED for resurfacing, and now my rotors are too worn, thereby forcing me to buy new ones when i could have gotten more use out of them had they been resurfaced in the spring.
next day: i use my planning period (i am a middle school teacher) to go to said business and ask about my concerns. they stand by the fact that they did indeed resurface the rotors, and furthermore claim that big o has no way of knowing whether or not they did do it 4 months later. they also point out to me that the measurement at which the rotors must be discarded is 0.906″. i did not lose my cool, but instead leave frustrated. by the end of this story, i will be glad i didn’t.
i leave pretty upset that said business is not owning up to shotty work. i call big o back and asked them, «how did you know they performed a pad slap? they claim you have no way of knowing.» the big blond woman who coached me on how to handle the conversation with the other business pulls the mechanic in from the garage so that he can answer my question. he *attempts* to imply that they never actually said that to me. he quickly realized i wasn’t tolerating those games, and downgraded his story to, «well, we don’t really know for certain if they did or didn’t.»
so let me get this straight:
1. you claimed that another business conducts itself unethically (puts on break pads and skirts industry standard), and you claim that you can see it plainly on my car [when i am in the shop with my checkbook.]
2. it is PERFECTLY possible that said business DID resurface my rotors, so they are not hurting my new brake pads at all.
3. the rotors don’t need resurfacing and aren’t low enough to discard yet.
4. your claim that you can’t resurface them now because there isn’t a large enough margin is completely irrelevant since all is well.
5. you caused a teacher to WASTE precious planning time to investigate your lie.
6. THEN WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE I NEED NEW FRONT ROTORS AT ALL???
i then start to question all the recommendations they have made. i understand that at minimum one tire must be replaced and i need alignment work. he said the struts in the back are for a smoother ride. i ask if it’s necessary. his answer? «it is recommended for safety.» I asked again, «i understand everything is ‘for safety,’ but there is a difference between necessary and recommended. is that necessary for safety?» finally he conceded that no, it was not. i refer to the rating of my back break pads and the thickness of my back rotors, which are not at discard status yet. why are they recommended replacement when they test just fine still?
i said, «hold on. i need you to be much more clear about what is NECESSARY work that needs to be done and what is RECOMMENDED.» basically, he said, i needed for sure 4 tires and an alignment done. they wanted to charge me $ 1500 for work on a car that only needed new tires and an alignment ($ 550).
great, i took my business elsewhere. flipping scam artists, putting other businesses down, and giving people the run around. FLIPPING THIEVES.

Went in to get four new tires because my Michelins were worn out and my car was definitely out of alignment from a recent collision. Rodney listened to me about what I was looking for, he offered advice. and we went thru a list of possible tire replacements. I feel I got a decent deal, and left feeling like my car was safe and ready for a road trip! Waiting room is comfy, with TV, coffee, etc., and even though it was busy I was in and out in a little over an hour. Will definitely do business with them again!

OVER An hour and a half to change four tires.
Mostly because the TWO guys doing the work were chatting it up the whole time. Joking and telling stories with wandering eyes. I’m honestly not sure if I even feel safe leaving?
How much attention did they pay to detail while discussing a myriad of topics. Even after being asked by what seemed to be a supervisor to get to work… they kept going.
Not very professional, and certainly doesn’t make me feel safe.

This location was unable to help us with roadside changing of 2 blown ties on our RV. However they were quick to suggest another place that could. We appreciate your staff for knowing the options available when we were in «oh crap» mode.

If you want to feel like you’re an inconvenience, then this is the place for you. Plan on waiting to be greeted or helped while they place phone calls on hold and finish their stories about their weekends with coworkers.
The extra star is for managing to put all the tires back on the car. Very impressive! I can now enjoy bumping up and down the road and letting go of the wheel to make right turns.

Honestly, I have never been treated so well at any type of car place. I had a horroble blowout on the freeway that did quite some damage to my car. I tried to be positive about the cruddy situation and when I got here the customer service was fantastic. They sympathized and did not at all try to take advantage of my crappy car situation and charge me a crazy amount. I don’t remember the gal who helped me at first, but she was fabulous. RJ and Ron, who i assume did the majority of work on my car were friendly and honest. Due to their great service I never want to go anywhere else.

9÷3÷2014− went in for oil change. upsold coolant flush and radiator cap. (realized when I got home I had a radiator flush in ¹⁄₁₄ when I had my timing belt changed elsewhere)
2÷10÷15− car overheated, Big O said defective radiator cap and replaced
2÷23÷15− car overheated again, Big O wanted to do another coolant flush and replace water pump. I took it to Subaru shop instead. Tech found oversized radiator cap and incorrect coolant. Had to replace blown head gasket $ 2341.09.
NEVER going back to Big O, EVER!
(I had been a customer for over 20 years prior to this series of incidents)

I think Nick Porter is awesome, when I called to get a quote over the phone Nick answered all my questions and gave me the impression he was truly interested in helping.
After I arrived Nick got right to work and explained each of the services that they would do to my truck, part of there inspection process is to make sure that when you leave there store that you are safe and confident knowing that professional techs have done there job right the first time.
Just looking at the new tires on my truck put a smile on my face. Best deal in town, best service, best value!!!

I needed air in one of my tires per car so I stopped at Big O on my way home. The guy inside sent me to an ‘air station’ out by the street and said someone would be there. I went ahead and started and there is no air gauge so you don’t know how much you’re putting in and no one ever showed up.
My experience at America’s Tires last year when I needed air was much better.

So i have been going to this location since i started to Drive. Great service 90 percent of the time. So history recieved a brake job then brought it back and had them check it out cause it wasnt right they said they fix it etc. but brakes were still wrong. I took it to Dodge and they fix it. Took dodge invoice back to Big O and they refund me all $$$$ i paid to Dodge.
So i know every business not perfect but Big O And Nathan are very Honest and i really appreciate them not giving me hard time etc. Thank you

Quick. Friendly. Honest. I came in on short notice and they took my car in to view my tire. It had a nail and they repaired it on the spot as requested. They updated the electronics so that the «tire air-​pressure loss/​flat-​tire» notice wouldn’t continue to occur. Tony didn’t try to sell me a new tire or anything of the sort and some other reviewers have mentioned about the other big o’s.

Okay so this was my first time at this location. I came in at around 1pm and called before and they said come on in we can get your oil changed and tires rotated. They said they had 2 cars ahead. I called at around 1215pm. When I got there I waited for about 10 – 15 before I was assisted. They said there were 3 cars ahead of me now so I asked if I could schedule an appointment for later at 4 figuring that it wouldn’t take as long.
I got there at 330pm and I got out of there at 530pm. Oil change and tire rotation takes 30min max probably less since they have all the right equipment. But I understand they are trying to get as many people in but 2hrs was a little ridiculous for having an appointment.
I saw my truck get pulled back out into the parking lot and was wondering if the tires needed to be rotated still or the oil needed to be changed one or the other.
I asked and I forget the guys name but he said they were about to put it on the rack to check the alignment. I’ve been to ton’s of shops and when I worked for enterprise rent a car I was in charge of getting cars getting their maintenance. I have never ever heard of checking the alignment of every car.
I’m sure this is their way of upselling an alignment that most people don’t need.
The guy I was talking to said he gets an alignment every time he gets an oil change at 3000 miles. I literally had to hold back my laughter. That was the biggest bullshit I have ever heard. He said all the bumps in the road and potholes can mess up my alignment. Mind you have a toyota tacoma with p265/​70/​16 tires. I have 185,000 miles on my truck and I’ve gotten 2 or 3 alignments only because I noticed it or I had just gotten new tires. I don’t know if I had dumb or something written all over my forehead for him to think I’d believe him.
I will never come back here. Shady ass guy trying to upsell on oil changes and alignments. I’m sure he gets plenty of people to follow the 3000 mile interval for both oil changes and alignments. Don’t fall for it poeple.
I’ve been coming to Big O tires for 12 years straight from Stockton, Livermore and Sacramento. This location was the biggest disappointment of all the locations I have experienced. They are known for being honest but this place was far from it.
