Came to old town Sac to celebrate bring in 2016 with a few friends. We arrived about 5 minutes before the fireworks and was quite surprised there was still parking as I parked in in downtown but not near old town and rode with Alex. Thanks, Alex! ;) Since we weren’t actually in old Town no one did a count down but that was fine. The fireworks were absolutely fantastic and the inner child in me came out. I have lived in Sacramento 8 years and never once have come out to see the fireworks as one New Year you will find me at a Casino. lol! It was great to hangout with wonderful friends and brought in the New Year right. I hope to do this again next year as I had a great time and it wasn’t chaotic as I would have thought. Even though I didn’t get to see you, William. Thank you for putting this awesome UYE together. I want to wish everyone a Happy New Yea 2016!

I had such a fantastic time celebrating New Year’s Eve in Old Sacramento! I have always wanted to see the fireworks and enjoy the festivities and I finally emerged from my cozy living room, which is where I usually am every New Years Eve, to meet up with some super cool Unilocal friends. With that said, I would like to say thank you to William for setting up this UYE… gracias my friend you rock(clapclapclapclap.) Navigation to killer holiday parking for free Fireworks in Old Sac: There is plenty of parking on the East side of the 5-fwy if you don’t mind walking a bit. If you are heading north on the 5 take the Q Street exit. This happens to be a long windy off ramp, which dumps you right into downtown Sacramento. On the other hand, if you are headed west on the 50 stay in the far right lane at the interchange with the 5-fwy as this will also turn into an off ramp. When you are almost at the end of the ramp, take a sharp right before you get to 3rd street. Follow the road around the bend and park along side the buildings. There is a combo cross walk — bike path sign at the mouth of a bridge, which goes over the freeway and joins up with the Sacramento River walk bike path on the other side. This is where we discovered several park benches and small viewing decks. We braved the unusually cold crisp winter air, enjoyed the fireworks show, and chimed in with all the Ooooos & Ahhhhhs. What is it about Fireworks Anyhow… I don’t know why but there is something about that thunderous feeling I get in my chest with the exploding fireworks that makes this sorta thing so fun. Oh yeah, and that burnt fireworks smell that catches up with your nose as it wafts through the air… I dig it! I had the best time and I want to thank my Unilocaler friends, Amy, Janelle, and Alex for letting me hang out with y’all while the old year left and the New Year arrived. You’re super cool and hilarious friends to have. And Alex your driving is quite remarkable as you are the only person I know who can drive up at any time in mid town or downtown Sac and always get the perfect parking spot … Cheers!
