This restaurant is under new management with a new chef! I never had the food from the old one, so I’m not sure how it compares, but I will say it’s currently delicious! Service was friendly and the owner cares about the quality of the ingredients. She was telling us she makes her own salted duck eggs for the salted duck egg yolk crispy shrimp dish because the stuff that is sold isn’t as good as the homemade stuff. Every dish came out piping hot and the things that were fried were crispy, not hard. The flavors are bold and yummy. We had: Honey walnut prawns Garlic honey spareribs Salt n pepper tofu stuffed with shrimp Steamed flounder Mixed vegetable sauteed with garlic Everything was fresh and delicious. The mango pudding(is more like a soft jello) they make for dessert tastes like real mangos!

One of the best Chinese food places ever! And I don’t even like Chinese food so that’s saying something. I don’t know why people are hating.

This place needs a new chef, more so the food is either overpowering or just not up to par with the flavors. the only thing i like here is the fried green asparagus and thats a 3⁄5 stars to me

I go for the taste when it comes to Chinese food, and I got to say, I was very satisfied with what I ordered. The seaweed tufo soup was just right, very balanced. The chow mein I asked for less salty, and the chef nailed it! It’s perfect! The egg foo young was yummie and I like how they had waterchestnut inside, which made it a little crunchy and light, very nice. The best part is my favorite, the«green fires» which is addictingly good. Ask for salt pepper aspapagus, an you will know what I mean.

Best Chinese food in the area, and I’ve tried them all. Unfortunately, I tried this one last, after being frustrated with all of the other ones in the area. Not only is all the food excellent, but it LOOKS fresh and is very visually appealing. Today I ordered the pork friend rice and the war won ton soup. I asked for some customization with the war won ton soup, i.e. no broccoli, baby corn or shrimp, and extra pork, and they we perfectly happy to do it for me. SOOOOO good! Do yourself a favor, if you live and or work near Florin, skip all of the Chinese place and go straight to China Ocean. You will definitely be happy you did.

I love it. Fried rice is great. Chow Mein is great. Generals Chicken off the hook. Cheap, Good, friendly. As far as Chinese goes. This is good.

This place sucks it doesn’t even deserve one star but I had to put one just so I can write a review food is nasty fried rice is oily BBQ ribs is clearly boiled ribs than sautéed and threw it in the oven eggrolls and cream cheese you can clearly tell it’s been precook and than re-fry all in all I’m never going again but must admit one thing they have the flavor down but if you’re looking for authentic Chinese food you’re in the wrong restaurant

It was 8pm on a Sunday evening and the family wanted Chinese food. We are new to the area and usually frequent Heng Fat. Unfortunately, Heng Fat is closed on Sundays so we checked out China Ocean. Again, it’s 8pm and they close at 9pm. We took our chances. When we got to the restaurant, there was a young girl that greeted us at the door. She was very friendly. I asked her for recommendations on the best dishes they served and were most popular. We ordered the house chow mein, general chicken, broccoli beef and a side of white rice. Fast and friendly service, a definite plus! When we got home, we opened the to-go containers. We were impressed! Food was fresh and it was delicious! We will definitely be ordering from China Ocean again soon!

Been here a few times until my husband and I went for lunch a couple months ago and a huge roach crawled out from behind the picture next to our table. We left and won’t go back. All I could imagine was biting into a sweet and sour roach. They need to close and do a deep cleaning.

My sister and I always passed by China Ocean on our way home from work and today we decided we would order their Wor Wonton soup because we were in the mood for something warm on a cold day. I was so disappointed as I was 4 to 6 minutes into eating my soup. I found a few tiny green dead bugs. I am assuming they were from the bok choy not being properly washed and cleaned. I ended up tossing the soup away and I wasn’t even half way into it. I don’t think I will end up ordering from here again, however this is just my experience and opinion… who knows they may have some really great dishes, but it’s just not for me…

This place is so so. I live close by but I would def drive a little further for better food. I’ve been here a couple times and notice that it’s a little more greasy here.

This has been a favorite resaaurant of mine for years. Went there today for lunch and they were closed. Health dept had a big sticker on the door saying it was closed on 6÷16÷2014 due to major violations… But there was no report to view. Don’t know if they are gone for good or going to fix the violations

Stopped for a late lunch. Haven’t been here for awhile, after being seated I looked around better as was disappointed with the lack of cleanliness. The floors, the walls, the AC vents. The light switches had nasty dirt build-up around them. Should have just have left but… Drink was a 12oz glass of ice and a spoonful of tea, our order was greasy, broccoli beef was bitter, rice was dry and just plain not good. Server was in a hurry and stand off-ish. Will not return for anything. Sad, Olde Town Florin will not improve for many, many years. Really sad, but there’s just not much happening in the area anymore and it seems none of the business’s in the area are customer oriented anymore.

Came here a few times because its so convenient for lunch at work. I always end up getting the Szechuan chicken and my coworker gets her usual Beef and Broccoli. The food is pretty good, especially since I never really crave Chinese. It’s definitely flavorful, and the meal always comes with a small eggroll, egg flower soup and your choice of either pork fried rice or chow mein. But it’s a great portion for a decent price. The lunch specials are about $ 7 each with all the above mentioned complementing the meal. I have tried their hot and sour soup, which I was unaware of at the time because my coworker offered it to me when he brought two to-go bowls back to work. It was pretty good and unusual as it had chicken, tofu, and all the stuff that comes with the hot and sour soup. I have to say, that was a good bowl of soup, especially since I didn’t feel all that well that day. Service is decent. Last time we were there, it took a while for us to have our orders turned in. The group that came after us got helped first, which annoyed me especially since we were on a time crunch. Other than that, for being a pretty convenient distance from work, food and it’s price, I would give this place three stars.

My job is nearby so by default my crew goes here every other month or so. I decided to stop by today knowing good and well this place is sub par. The«garlic chicken» I ordered ended up being some spicy chicken with red pepper pieces in it, I was already at my desk so I figured I would just give it a go. After my first bite I realized it was kinda chewy so I took a knife to it only to find it severely undercooked. I was so unsatisfied to find this that I threw the whole thing away. Oh and they charge $ 1.75 for a CAN of soda. Never again China Ocean never again!

According to Unilocal,2 stars = «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» The sad part is, that statement is true — but by better I mean at the very SAME restaurant in the past. I’ve lived in the Sacramento area for more than a decade and remember frequenting this restaurant a lot, and my family even knew the owner at the time, Steve, and his wife. The food was good whether lunch specials during a weekday or dinners(dine-in or takeout). General Chicken, Garlic Chicken, you name it. Not sure when it changed up but I have been a few times recently and have been thoroughly unimpressed. Ordered the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce with Fried Rice(and tasted some of the chow mein that came with the other dish). Veggies… I was not expecting the peas and [cubed] carrot mix. Chowmein was greasy, eggroll didn’t come with the hot mustard sauce. Soup was so-so. Sorry, China Ocean. Maybe update the décor too. Not sure if you’ll get my business back anytime soon.

Tucked in the corner of this dark street off of Florin, this a gem for Chinese food. Never ate here until recently but I heard they recently switched owners. While I was eating my food with my boyfriend, the owner(doubling as chef) came out of the kitchen and greeted us with a big smile and asked us how the food was. I saw him go around to different tables to do the same thing. That’s how I know this place is great: they are always striving to improve and see what their customers want. Now on to the food. I ordered orange chicken, walnut prawns, and chicken chow mein. The orange chicken was cooked to perfection. I’m usually afraid of orange chicken being too sweet and over-fried, but this one was just right. The sauce had a good balance of tangy and sweet and the chicken pieces were still crunchy without being over-fried. The honey glazed walnut prawns were to die for. The prawns were huge and with a good amount of that honey glazed sauce without overpowering it. The chow mein was also really good. Not too oily and I could tell it was fresh out of the wok. I’ll definitely be back for more. I want more of that orange chicken and walnut prawns!

I just found out this place is… UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT! It’s definitely not getting the ratings it deserves! I’ve been living in the area for many years and this is my very first time trying this place. The food is sooo yummy! First, I’m chinese myself and am very judgemental when it comes to chinese food. At first glance, this place is probably not the most attractive area, but when you get the chance to sit down and order their cheese and crab wontons for an appetizer, this place is magical. Other things that I ordered, the chinese broccoli and beef(SOOO light and perfect), the walnut shrrimp(I usually hate overpowered mayonnaise over my shrimp like it’s done elsewhere, but here… the shrimp is crispy with the perfect amount of glaze over each seafood creature.). I always judge chinese food by the texture of their rice(THERICEISIMPORTANT!). Other places, the rice is hard. and just ruins the entire experience. However, I had my small bowl of steamed goodness in front of me. This place definitely gets as authentic as it gets! It’s like eating with the fam :). Give it a try! The manager is awesome and the staff is delightful :)

This is a good place to eat certain foods. I really like their pork fried rice and my boyfriend(who is Chinese) likes their orange chicken. He tried their chow fun though and was really disappointed. Overall, if you want something cheap and quick I’d go here, but its not Chinese food at its best.

This place is not good. Have a friend that lives down here and was looking to take her to lunch. There is a serious lack of decent restaurants in the area. Seemed nice enough when we first walked in. But as noted in other reviews, service was just completely uncommunicative. We didn’t get any kind of a greeting, just menus plopped down on the table. Weren’t asked if we wanted anything to drink besides water or even if we wanted the special before soup was just brought out. About this time I noticed how filthy the tablecloth was. Really wish we would have just left at that point. Chow mein, fried rice and Kung pao beef were okay. Soup was greasy. Yuck, making me nauseous just thinking about it.
