Look, this place is a dive of a diner. It’s tiny, and sits on a very busy street with limited parking. The service, while fast, is not the most personable most days. I don’t know much about the quality of the exotic meat, except that my elk burger tasted gamier than typical beef, and was absolutely delicious. The fries are nothing special, but they are hot and crisp and fresh. The milkshakes are perfect for hot summer nights, or cold winter ones when you want to share with your honey. The prices are cheap, the portions are generous, and I’ve never gone home dissatisfied. It’s a great place to go when you want to go out, have a limited budget, and want something hot and fresh and tasty. I love this place, and I think you will too.

Cookie’s Drive In is a cool local joint with unique food. From ostrich burgers to buffalo burgers, they truly have something different for those daring food goers. One of my childhood favorites is the chicken nuggets. They are fried to perfection and with a side of barbeque sauce, it is just delicious! I like to go to Cookies during the summer to get a chocolate dipped cone. Sometimes I do go there in the winter months too! :) I enjoy their chicken sandwiches all year long as well as the fries. This place is worth checking out for their classics and their special menu items.

Out of respect for my son who likes Cookies Drive In and the fact I have not visited the place for 45 years, I give it a medium rating and hope the new owner’s, for the last 30 years, wake up. We ate two cheese burgers, a large fries, a Coke and a chocolate milk shake for $ 20.12. Nothing remarkable about the price, but my son could not tell if he had a vanilla or chocolate milk shake. I swear my real burger burger meat tasted like a gyro. There are not many mom and pop burger drive inns in East Sac or anywhere nearby thanks to McDonalds and other corporate fast food gluten soaked eateries. I may go back to Cookies and get an update or perhaps become a vegetarian. Stay tuned.

I have driven by this place a few times and after leaving a Dr. visit late in the day and heading back home during traffic we decided to just stop in here and kill some time and hope traffic died down. I was surprised to find all the options here and exotic meat choices. I don’t eat meat burgers but they did have a vegetarian patty option, I asked but it was not made in house. They also had fish sandwiches which were made in house so I figured I’d go for that and it was pretty good. The milkshakes were pretty good as well. My son had the cheeseburger and fries and was happy. So all in all not a bad place to get some quick eats and looks like its a pretty good place to take everyone since there are plenty of options for everyones tastes. Quite a few people called in orders and came and picked them up while we were there and the owners are very nice. I’m going to come back for a milkshake next time I am nearby there are so many flavors left to try!

This place has good burgers but terrible customer service. The lady at the counter always seems uninterested. I have asked her for ketchup packets for my to-go orders and have gotten a lot of attitude from her. Honestly, the only good customer service I have experienced has been from the older man(the cook). Also, I have went many times in which they advertised to be open and nada. They are never consistently open with respect to their hours. Great food but step it up Cookies.

You come to Cookie’s for the food. That’s it. I do not understand folks reviewing a real burger spot based on customer service or ambiance. C’mon. The burgers are some of the best in Sacramento. One star for the buns. One start for the assortment of types of burger meat. One star for the fries. One star for Cookie’s being exactly what it is advertised to be, a burger spot, and for the prices being relative to that. If you want to pay for overpriced burgers, ambiance and your now prerequisite assortment of IPAs, there are plenty of spots downtown willing to take you up on that.

For the life of me I cannot understand why people eat here. To be honest any fast food restaurant is better. The kitchen is visibly disgusting to patrons, the meat is freezer burnt and not all exotic meat. Meaning they are clearly mixing inferior meats into the patties. Lastly there is no service. Just flies. And more flies.

First time here, fast service and good food! That’s how I like it. We ordered cheese burgers fries and shakes. New go to burger place when we’re in the area! Best thing is, the price is right!

The vegetarian black bean patty was good, although the lady seemed uninterested in giving me any information as to what was in it, what brand, etc. She just said«nothing is made here». The fries were nothing exciting, but they were hot and fresh off the fryer. The milkshake was fantastic! I got a peanut butter shake and it was really good. Worth the extra money you will spend. It’s a tiny place on the inside, just a few tables and nothing updated, but whatever — grab it and go. A little lacking in the service department, but it is close to home and the vegetarian option they have is pretty tasty, even if not made in-house. I’ll surely be back if I need my milkshake fix.

Was looking for a good place to have a burger so found this place on Unilocal. It is definitely the definition of ‘local hole in the wall’. Located right at intersection of H St and 57th St. in East Sac. Careful or you might drive right past it. Walked in and placed my order. The menu inside is a bit confusing to fully comprehend the first time, but there is a more detailed one behind the outside walk up window. I wasn’t feeling very adventurous and didn’t even look at the exotic meats so I ordered a 1⁄3 lb cheeseburger, small fries, and strawberry milkshake. The good: friendly cashier; different options; freshly made burgers with the proper seasoning; nice old school ambiance; affordable. The bad: SMALL – there are 4 tables inside and 4 or so tables to eat outside; difficult menu that doesn’t tell what’s on the burger; fries were nicely prepared but cold when I got my order, like they had been sitting around. I say, if you’re in the area and are looking for a good burger then try. I am willing to come try it again now that I have a feel for how the place runs.

TERRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE! The food was good. My boyfriend got an ostrich burger and I just got a corndog. We sat down and there was a guy at the table next to us waiting for his food. The cashier called out a BBQ Bacon Burger and a chocolate chip milkshake and both the guy next to us and my boyfriend’s friend go up to get it. So of course my boyfriend’s friend thinks okay… Maybe the guy ordered the same thing since his food should have been out first. A few minutes later the guy eating realizes it isn’t his order because he didn’t get a milkshake. He kindly goes up to the cashier and apologizes and offers to pay for a new one. The employees very rudely decline. ANDTHEN… A very VERY rude young man takes the effort to come out the back door to the lobby and stares at my boyfriend’s friend pointing and telling him that it is his fault and«if you know it’s your food you should grab it.» Which he did! But the cashier was also pushing it towards the guy that had been waiting before us because his food should have been out first. They weren’t even busy and need to keep better track of their orders. Regardless of the situation or «who’s fault it was,» it was in no way how anyone should treat a customer and it was very offensive to not only us, but the other customers around.

To all the bad reviews about the service, this is a Drive-In Burger place. You don’t expect five star service from a burger drive-in. I have never had a bad meal at Cookie’s. My favorite is the Bonanza Burger in the sourdough bun. The bun is what makes this burger.

Amazing food! The homemade burger is delicious. I get it with 2 hamburger patties along with the awesome fries and ice cream cone. They will charge you though to put it in a cup… Space is small so when it gets busy good luck finding a place to sit. But thats the only negative! Love Cookies Drive-In!

I know, I know… it’s not going to make the top 5 of any culinary list. But it’s so entertaining just to see this joint. You got the bar stools out front. Perfect for eating out on a summer evening. Watching the trains go by and sucking down a milkshake. Remnants of a by gone era. I don’t know the exact age of this joint, but it’s got to be at least 30 years old. When you place an order you will be overwhelmed with the selection. Regular burgers, cheeseburgers, garden burgers as well as burgers I didn’t even knew existed: kangaroo, salmon, ostrich, and turkey to name a few. I’ve only dared tried three so far. All very tasty, but kind of makes you feel guilty for being a meat eater. Those days I just go with the garden burger. Very healthy and light to eat! I love it! For dessert there’s milkshakes, slushies, sundaes, and ice cream cones. Such a wonderful variety it’s hard to chose which way to go. I also love, love, love their curly fries!!! That’s a treat all by itself. To drink they offer soda, milk, orange juice! I am fascinated with how much variety they offer on every item choice. I have to stand there and study the menu like I’m taking a test. I just can’t decide which one is best! It all sounds so right! My only critical feedback on this joint is the cleanliness of the sitting area. Omg, the OCD person in me wants to get soapy rag and scrub down the whole joint. The owners are so thoughtful they even provide books to read for the kids. The good news is, my main audience aka: «the kids» don’t seem to notice or care. Their smiling faces say it all for me. Good times and good memories are made here. My heart fills with joy everytime I make a trip with one of my youngsters!

GoodNess gracious… Dont let the name deceive you… DONOT [GET] FOOLED like JOEYDID! This is NOT a bakery, there are no cookies, no cookie crumble! I was in the mood for a cookie and search throughout Unilocal for a nearby cookie joint and just got the address and went without looking at fellow Unilocalers reviews… And… and… The name tricked me, was hoping to go to a drive-thru just to order cookies for the convenience, but its. its… a restaurant. Its a fast food joint! Grrrrr… New name change please.

Hmm maybe I’m being bias because this wonderful little place serves exotic meat and plus the owners are Asian… and I’m Asian… so. It’s a small place with several tables and seats, but yeah it’s not very modern looking — more like old school, how cute ~ kinda like a hole in the wall place. LOL anyways, my darling boyfriend introduced me to this place because he knows I’m a fatty and I love burgers and milkshakes ~ I didn’t order a shake because I had to use the bathroom really bad(mm irrelevant I know) but I did order the elk burger and some small fries. My boo got a plain homemade burger and a vanilla shake. Seriously my boyfriend only gets burgers plain… any burger place we go to, it’s always«just the bread and meat» no sauces, veggies, nothin’. He is somethin… Their fries were okay, love that they tasted fresh and hot. Maybe I should’ve gotten ketchup because they did ask me if we wanted any but the guy giving me my order looked at me weird so I got scared and said no LOL. Oh yeah we got our order to go because it was 7ish and they close at 8… plus they were kinda cleaning up so we didn’t wanna seem even more annoying by staying there hehe. Took a sip of my boyfriend’s vanilla shake and it was creamy and yummy o_o does that sound wrong LOL. Didn’t wanna eat my burger in the car so I waited until I got home; the burger was very soft… I liked it! The elk meat is soooooo good, omg. I first had an elk burger at Flaming Grill but their elk meat was harder so I’m not sure how it’s suppose to be. I’ll sure be coming back to try their other exotic meat burgers(ostrich, boar, camel, kangaroo, buffalo, not sure what else) and of course get a milkshake! :3 Oh yeah if you use a card, there is a 60 cents charge.

Oh Cookie’s, you haven’t changed! I used to walk here for lunch all the time when I worked on 57th Street years ago, and decided to go again on a recent day off. Cookie’s is still a standard roadside burger dive that looks kinda dirty but serves up a mean burger. The only thing that changed is their prices have gone up a bit. B ordered the ostrich burger(my old time favorite), I branched out and ordered the chicken & avocado burger, and we split an order of fries and a large drink — which, btw, that large is LARGE. It’s like one of the those monster cups you’d get out of 7 – 11. The fries were OK but nothing to write home about. My burger tasted great, and the chicken breast was so big it was bulging outside of the hefty buns. I sneaked a bite of B’s ostrich and it was just as good as I remember. I was intrigued to see that Cookie’s has a full range of exotic meats besides ostrich, including buffalo, camel, elk, kangaroo, salmon and wild boar(which they call their«boar-ger». *ba-dum-pish!*) It’s good to know I can come to Cookie’s if I don’t want to make the drive out to Flaming Grill, which is my go-to for big exotic burgers.

I’ve witnessed the ‘regulars’ ordering Roo and Buffalo burgers. They also have Ostrich, Camel, Veggie and Turkey. I’m not as adventurous as some of my fellow Unilocalers. But I do know a great beef burger when I meet one. Their buns are really soft, kind of like a baked char sui bao. The freshness and texture goes well with any burger your choose. The condiments are fresh and avocado is a must. Their burgers come in different weights: ¼lbs, 1/3lbs, ½lbs Try the chili-cheese fries or fried burrito. The burrito is like Whitey’s Jolly Cone or the old A&W, when it was on Freeport Blvd. Crispy on the outside and soft and spicy meat and beans on the inside. You can’t go wrong with anything you order at Cookie’s…except for cookies, because they don’t serve them here. Simply Wonderful!!!

Based on the other Unilocal reviews and delicious looking pictures, I decided to check out Cookie’s Drive In during lunch when I was craving a veggie burger and fries, but not wanting to drive to In N Out. The interior and exterior of the building is very outdated(I don’t think much has changed since it originally opened) but it doesn’t detract from the overall experience. They have a large parking lot that’s easy to get in and out of which is very convenient. I ordered their Spicy Black Bean Burger with a Small French Fries because I hoped the burger would be made in house(the other two vegetarian options were a Gardenburger or Boca Burger). I only had to wait a few minutes for my order to be ready(only two other people waiting) and off I went! I thought the burger was OK. For a Spicy Black Bean Burger it wasn’t spicy which was semi disappointing. I also couldn’t tell if they made the burger in house or if it was frozen. I believe it was probably the latter, but I wasn’t positive. The burger was a little on the charred side so I had to pick some of the blacker crunchy edges off, and the whole thing was a little dry with just one small dab of mayo right in the middle and no other condiments. I did enjoy the bun because it was different than your normal store bought buns and it tasted fresh. The fries were OK as well, not as crispy as I would have liked, and had a weird outer texture and little flavor. Oh well. Overall the whole experience was OK, I would come back here if someone else was going or wanted to go, but wouldn’t crave it or choose to come back here as my own idea.
