There are rescues out there who claim to be all about the dogs, but DDB Nor Cal LIVES it. They mainly rescue pit or pit mixes, but have been known to save chihuahuas, cats, and all other breeds. Their main rep works her ASS off to get these dogs amazing homes. I have assisted her in giving shots to some of her pups, and this organization does things right. They make sure the dogs are HEALTHY before adoption, which I know a lot of rescues are sheisty on, they follow up on the«after care» of the adopted pets, they do home checks and have a detailed application to make sure these pups will be taken well care of!!! She has even transported dogs from So Cal up here via other volunteers, and Chris has driven adopted dogs all the way to Oregon to be with their new families. As an RVT student, and having interned in vet clinics, dealing with the«Racism» of the Pit breed on a daily basis in my own work(I am a pet sitter and walk dogs, and several pit bulls. and the looks people give me you’d think I’d crapped on the sidewalk in public or something?!) Anyway– I HIGHLY recommend going through this rescue if you are looking for an organization and people who honestly just love dogs and are not in it for the money like many other organizations.

This might be a small group of rescuers, but they work hard to make the lives better for dogs. Specializing in chained dogs, Dogs Deserve Better(DDB) is a national non-profit group; however, in the Sacramento area there is a branch. They generally have quite a few dogs, in foster homes, through out Sacramento. If you are looking for a dog that they don’t have, just email them( ) and they will help you find the right dog for you.
