Eli’s Pizza & Check Cashing

Even though it’s Sacto’s only one-​stop-​shoppe for cokes, candies, chips, sundries, pizza, nachos, deli sandwiches, wings, cigs, lighters, XXX mags, DVDs, «water pipes», one roll of toilet paper, burritos, condoms, unlicensed Scarface memorabilia, and check cashing services (among other things!), Eli doesn’t just rest on his laurels as owner of the most versatile mini-​mart ever. The dude’s customer service is incredible. To wit…
I went in there for a pastrami sandwich, and while Eli (I presume ‘cos he was the only one working there) left the cash register to make my sandwich, three customers came in separately to buy some Swisher Sweet loosies. Each customer just waved their money in the air and hollered for eye contact: «AY! AY! WE GOOD!!!» And one nod from Eli later, the customer left the cash on the counter and took off with his loosey.
People are so trustworthy and honorable in this part of Sacramento, didn’tcha know? Or do people know what they’re gonna get if they cross Eli? Whatever the case, the customers left a little bit o’ change on the table. No biggie.
Witnessing the coolest transaction style ever made this Eli’s visit unexpectedly fun.
