Extra Space Storage

Pros — This is a decent facility, clean, and good hours of operation.
Cons — They RAISE your rent like crazy! I read these comments before I had rented a unit from them, and still decided to continue with my decision. I now wish that I would have taken those comments more seriously. If you’re looking for a month or two rental, then you should be fine. If you’re renting out a space longer than six months, look elsewhere. Also, I’ve had my fair share of questionable run-​ins, whether from other storage renters or just random people roaming throughout the property. I’ve also never seen or had any contact with anyone that works there except for the first day I signed up, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

They were super helpful and got us a unit super fast!

Highly recommend this place, the staff is very friendly and helpful. The facility is extremely clean and well maintained. I had looked at other storage facilities before this one, this one by far is a higher standard than the others I visited.

Cynthia at the front desk was such an amazing help! This place is one of the nicest storages places I’ve ever used. The location is what drew me towards it cause it’s right around the corner from my office and the hours are perfect. I would def. recommend this place to my friends and family.

After an exhausting search for a mini storage in Sacramento I was finally referred to Extra Space Storage. I received excellent customer service. As their ad indicates, the business is super clean and modern. Thank you Extra Space Storage for providing a safe, clean, environment for both my precious treasures and me.

I’m a planner. When I reserved a 10×10 space online, I taped out an area of my garage and put various totes and boxes in the space to see how many I’d be able to fit in the unit.
When I was taken to the unit on the move-​in date, it looked smaller. I didn’t say anything at the time, because I assumed it was an optical illusion. Certainly they wouldn’t rent out a space labeled 10×10 and have it not be that size.
After several car trips and lots of sweat equity invested, it became apparent that the unit was not 10×10. I brought back my tape measure and discovered it was about 8.5×9.5. This may seem like a small difference, but assuming you have a large Home Depot box (which is 18“x18″) and store it 4-​high (which is not even close to the top of the unit) that’s 24 BIG boxes! Otherwise know as a dang lot o’stuff that I won’t be able to store in there.
I intend to ask for an adjustment on the monthly rent. I’ll update my review after that, but in the meantime I suggest you bring your tape measure to make sure you’re getting what you pay for!
Incidentally, the facility is really clean, and the move-​in paperwork is very streamlined. Also, Cynthia was very personable.

I take issue with any business that says you can cancel at any time but then will not prorate your payment once you’ve paid for the entire month. This is a horrible business practice.
I would never use this company again. Other than being a clean and secure facility, the management is terrible. My rate went up in the first three months of me moving in, and have continued to rise since.
There are so many storage options out there — this is the wrong one to use!

I have mixed feeling about this place. The units are clean and secure but that is about it.
I should of ran after the first incident. It was a Sunday and I stopped by the center to drop off some items in the unit. I was alone and ran into a man in the hallway with no pants on, fully exposed. Scared the crap out of me! I left and I told them about this the next day and they acted like I was crazy for being startled and brushed it off saying the man had mental issues. Yes, I know what a man’s body part looks like. I have been married a long time and have six kids. I guess the next time I run into a man with his ding dong exposed in the middle of a hallway, in a storage facility, I should ask him if he is just mentally ill or is he a serial rapist??? Cynthia claims they removed him immediately after that but I saw this same man and his wife there on several occasions. I always took my husband or sons with me after this incident.
They seemed to raise our rate shortly after we moved in.
Our family hit a hard spot when my husband was laid off last year. We struggled to pay but we paid what we owed. Then a couple months back things got worse and we got behind. He found another job and offered a partial payment to catch up, $ 250 and the remainder soon after. They sold out unit for less than what we offered to pay to catch up. We had been customers there all this time and they did this. I understand that late pays can be a pain but the situation at the time was out of our control. Cynthia the manager is okay, until today I did not have any real issues with her bur the other agent «T» was rude.

Extra Space Storage is great… until you find out they raise your rate more often than a Maury Povich baby-​daddy episode airs. Since joining the Extra Space club a little over a year ago, my rate has gone up twice from $ 80 to a now whopping $ 92. Sure, they provide a secure, air conditioned space for my belongings, but no amount of legalese justifies raising the rate that frequently on a space that hasn’t changed one iota since I signed up. The facilities are clean and safe; the service is nonexistent. It gives the impression that, while they do provide some of the most secure storage facilities, they don’t care about anything beyond the bottom line.

I agree with. Nick J. In house management problems, billing issues and outrageous rate increases! Store your stuff elsewhere.
I like to end things on a positive note so with that being said, this place is clean & secure.

I’ve had a great experience here so far. Jillian gave top notch customer service. After calling around, this is the best deal and most convenient hours and location in the area. The facilities seem very clean, and their security measures give me peace of mind. Nuff said.

After looking for wine storage in Sacramento for the scorching summer time, and those warmer than normal winter days, I chose Extra Space Storage. After about a month and a half I took my business elsewhere less than satisfied.
When I first signed up for the unit I was offered two free months as an incentive to buy. At the months end, I was receiving notices that I needed to pay for the next month, which was supposed to be free. After many calls and couple conversations with a service representative, none of which where ever followed up on (Cynthia), I finally came to find out that they (Darlene) had failed to put a note in my file about the agreed upon terms, and without any documentation on my part I really had no available recourse. When I, reluctantly, went to pay for the next month they where going to charge me more than what was agreed upon monthly. Fortunately, I did have the documentation for what was quoted in this case and it wasn’t a problem. In addition, they (Darlene) said things about the ‘climate controlled’ units that where not true in regards to temperature and humidity fluctuations. They (Cynthia and Darlene) also said that if I was to leave the unit in the middle of the month, I would only be charged for the portion of the month that was used and that the balance would be returned to the card. This again was not true! When I asked about it of course they (some manager lady) pulled out the fine-​print contract that showed different terms than what I was told, and then did a little song and dance about how ‘they cannot’ (i.e. won’t) return money to cards.
At the end of the day don’t rent from this business. If you do, make sure you read the mundane minutia of the contract. And certainly DO NOT take anything they say at face value. I feel that they told me what they had to in order to get me in there. It’s interesting they put up a façade of promoting excellence in customer service but don’t seem to have regular protocols/​practices which facilitate the philosophy.
