I went to this practice because I wanted to see Dr. David Arenson. He was not taking new patients, so the receptionist made an appointment for me to see Dr. Gautam Gandhi for a routine colonoscopy. All my pre-op appointments were scheduled with a nurse and medical assistant. I never actually met Dr. Gandhi until I was about to go under sedation for the procedure. After I waited alone in the pre-op room at Sutter Surgery Center for about 90 minutes staring at the blue curtain and listening to other GI docs speak reassuringly with their patients, Dr. Gandhi breezed in and said, «Ready to go? Good» and blew out again. He spent a total of 30 seconds with me despite having never seen me before. When I woke up in pain mid-way through my colonoscopy, he would not approve further medication because it would«take too long for me to wake up». I’m sure they didn’t want me taking up extra gurney time, in fact, while I was waiting, I heard«turn over in room 6», «turn over in room 8», turn over in room 10″ several times over the loudspeaker. I felt like I was on a conveyor belt; that they were trying to get patients in and out as quickly as possible to hit some daily quota. Post-colonoscopy Dr. Gandhi was abrupt and seemed annoyed with my questions. He never acknowledged my concerns as valid or called personally to check on me. When his assistant called with the results of my biopsy, she was also short with me and didn’t want to spend any extra time explaining further treatment options. If Doctors don’t like it when their patients turn to Google for answers about their medical conditions, they should express concern and spend a little time with them,(even the ones they may find irritating or tiresome) instead of trying to herd them in and out so they can bill insurance. I will not be going to Dr. Gandhi for follow-up and am looking for another GI doc for my colon health.

It’s unfortunate that the previous reviewer had a bad telephone experience with a scheduler at Dr. Gandhi’s office and never actually saw him as a patient. Sacramento Gastroenterology is a very busy office with a number of doctors, but I personally have never had any difficulties with any of the staff there. I have been pleased to be in Dr. Gandhi’s care for several years now. He has a great reputation within the medical community and I have found him to be a genuinely kind and caring person. He takes an interest in his patients as whole human beings and doesn’t just simply focus in on the problem at hand. I always leave the office feeling that all my questions have been answered and I have felt in the best of hands during endoscopy procedures as well as office visits.

Today I called to make an appointment to see doctor Gandhi Gautam. I chose this office because he had a few good reviews when I did a search, so I felt comfortable going here. I live in Citrus Heights, Ca. and his office is in Sacramento, about a twenty minute drive. Not only was the receptionist extremely rude, but they told me to find a doctor in my area. It takes me just as long to go to Roseville to see a doctor, as it does to get to Sacramento. They didn’t refuse to see me in Roseville. I bet there are other patients in his office that are from Citrus Heights, hard for me to buy. I think it’s a shame that we pay so much money to see the doctors of our choice, and then be told in a very unprofessional manner, to basically get lost. I asked them if I could see another doctor in their establishment, and they told me they would check and call back, they never did. I would stay away from this office unless you don’t mind dealing with rude receptionists.
