My husband and I just celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Hook and Ladder– we had been wanting to go there since it opened but just never made it until now. The food was great: the mixed lettuce salad and the pickle and olive was exceptional. But what really blew us away was the service we had. I regrettably didn’t get the name of the employee who waited on us, but he went above and beyond when I didn’t love my pizza with tomato and apple and had the kitchen make one with olive oil instead! Then, they saved my husband’s cell phone when he left it there. Thank you! We will be back again!

If farm to fork cuisine is your style and you are a fan of brunch, you need to stop in and enjoy the Crispy Carnitas Quesadilla or the Croque Madame. The Pozole is amazing as well. Ingredients are so fresh and full of flavor. Chef Brian Mizner is creative with the ingredients and the offerings without going too over the top. Great relatable plates with enough creativity to still feel like you can safely step outside of your comfort zone to try something new. Jim behind the bar kept us engaged in great conversation and knows his way around the wide range of spirits to be ready to give a quick recommendation to match your interests. Try the French 75 for a great refreshing start and don’t be afraid to sample one of the Japanese whiskies if you want to try something outside of the standard American and Scotch whisky trends that are so popular these days. When we visit Sacramento again, we will be sure to come back for more!

Food here was good. Been there several times because of the good pizza and appetizers. If you want to try this place out I recommend going during happy hour. Try some things and do it for a lot cheaper. This is a spot to go with friends or a date.

Starting off, I love the design of the restaurant! It is a neat little midtown spot. Food, eh I am not a fan. Service was okay. Nice because they were not super busy.

I only came here for drinks, so I didn’t get to experience all of Hook & Ladder, but it was pretty good from what I saw. DRINKS: — They had a vodka coffee drink and it was deliciouis. I’ve never had vodka and coffee together, but the drink was very frothy and milky. FOOD: — Fries & Shishito Peppers: Delicious fries and peppers. I loved the orange sauce that came with it, very creamy and yummy. Furthermore the shishito peppers were SUPER spicy. I’ve never had shishito peppers like that.

First I want to say I’ve given this place three tries. The food is always great but on my second visit, we got there 30 min after opening on a weekend and they were already«sold out» on two of the menu items people in our party had decided on. Ok… We settled for the daily burger and we were not disappointed. Tonight we had left the house planning on sushi. We stopped down the street and were seated already when we decided to change our minds and go to Hook & Ladder. We were seated promptly, staff was friendly but after taking our drink and dinner order the service quickly declined. I ordered a Singapore Sling and my bf ordered a beer. A good while past before our server came and said«your drinks will be up soon». Awhile later another person/busser? Brought us a small snack on two spoons and we asked about our drinks. He assured us they were making them right now. Still… Nothing. Dinner finally came. The burger special was awesome. Cooked to perfection but something was still missing. Our drinks! We were halfway done with our dinner by the time our drinks came. Note to server: bring the beer, tell me a lie about the cocktail even but please don’t serve our drinks when we are already halfway done with our dinner. Or at least offer an apology? I love the ambiance and the idea here but I don’t think we’ll be back. 3rd time was not a charm.

I have absolutely no complaints about my visit. Which, to be honest, makes me scared to come back! I can only hope for consistency when that time does inevitably arrive. Venue: lovely rustic(?) décor. Really nice and comfortable. Drinks: didn’t have a cocktail, but the beer list was just rare enough to hold my interest.(yes, I’m that much of an asshole). Food: BESTPART. Thank goodness. Shisitos and fries: outstandingly spicy aioli, crispy fries, and perfectly salted/cooked peppers. Chicken/Bacon/Burrata sandwich: excellent peppery bacon, tender chicken, and the tomato marmalade took it to the next level. Roast beef/horseradish aioli sandwich: excellent on all counts. The horseradish aioli doesn’t offend in any way, it’s perfectly creamy. The meat was tender and everything went together perfectly. Service: only SLIGHTLY on the slow side, but genuinely pleasant and friendly. Really, I can’t wait to come back, but I’m afraid of burning myself out on it, so I HAVE to wait. STAYGOOD, H&L!

I absolutely love this place!!! Great food and amazing drinks!!! All the servers are super friendly, very knowledgeable, welcoming and the bartender Anthony is the best!!! He makes every drink with perfection and great presentation! (Moscow mule with berry syrup is my favorite!!!) The food is also amazing!(I always start off with the Frito Misto and the cheese board!!! Yummy!) Their menu often changes, so it’s fun to try different things each time I visit. A must go if you’re in the area!!!

Hook and Ladder is a place I visited a couple years ago(before my relationship with Unilocal got serious). I’ve been wanting to give it a second try because I don’t remember much about my first visit, other than having good food and good drinks. We came in on a Tuesday night and it was much busier than I expected it to be on a week night! The bar was full and there were a couple larger parties there as well. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, the girls up front were cheerful and asked how our day was going and our waiter was personable and attentive. I’ve decided I want our whole apartment to look like this place. The décor is super cute and I found myself taking photos of a bunch of stuff(light fixtures always catch my attention…) to remember for DIY projects. Our food was excellent and although we didn’t get the dessert we originally wanted(they were out), and I wasn’t overly excited about bread pudding, it was surprisingly amazing and I ate wayyyy too much. We’ll definitely be back!

Hipsters of the world unite at Hook and Ladder! This place screams Bay Area influence with there urban/retro decorations and house made cocktails. It is extremely refreshing to have a restaurant like this pop up in the Sacramento area. We found it by pure accident looking for a quick lunch spot after wine tasting and shopping. I made reservations for 2:30 and upon arrival we were seated immediately. I ordered the brunch burger medium rare topped with a sunny side egg, bacon and onions. The burger was seasoned and cooked perfectly! Just melts in your mouth SOGOOD! The onions were crispy and side of potatoes also were perfect. One of the better burgers I have had in the mid town area. My gf ordered the French toast bread pudding which was equally as good. Mimosas of only $ 5.50 with more wine than OJ also cannot be beat! Great location, service and food! We will definitely be back!!!

Awesome venue! Very unique. Happy hour is from 2 – 6 I believe, maybe only m-f. I came in Friday for happy hour. A friend suggested this place. I had a delicious glass of cab and a salad(asparagus, cheese and beets) for $ 13. If you’re looking for a nice dinner, great bar, amazing happy hour then this is your place. Also noticed they have a nice selection of Japanese whiskey. Bartender even let me taste one. He also gave me some other awesome places to visit since I just moved here… Thank you! I’ll definitely be back

H&L put on a nice show during Farm2Fork Week. Food: We started with the cheeseboard that came with three locally sourced cheeses and grilled bread. The cheese selection was average. I did however, like the emphasis on figs and almonds, both very well paired with the combination of cheeses. We also had the Roasted Candy Striped Fig & Blue Cheese dish, which was essentially a salad with minimal greens. It was on the sweeter side, yet light and refreshing, I loved the addition of the bread which added a crispy texture and balance. I ordered the Roasted Quail which was pretty bland, I thought the Demi Glacé was a nice touch, but still didn’t add much flavor. Rather than being roasted, it was more on the fried side, I took off the outside because I’m not big on fried foods. However, I enjoyed the roasted squash, garlic potatoes and creamy spinach that was served with the protein. My boyfriend opted for the Lamb T-Bone which was perfectly grilled and flavored with a very yummy pesto sauce that had a slight spice to it. Served over a bed of creamy corn polenta and sauteed red peppers, his dish was pretty darn tasty. For dessert we had the Lemon Curd Parfait which had a great balance of sweetness and tart from the orange marmalade and candied almonds(sweet) and the blueberry swirl(tart). It was simple and fresh. The Roasted Peach Bread Pudding was the best dish of the night, custard-like on the inside, yet warm and doughy as well. The gelato and compote were a nice addition. I will admit that I was marveled by their epic presentation of all dishes. Service: Not sure if it had to do with the fact that we were sitting out back, but our server only dropped by each time he delivered a different course. Service could have been better. Price: I dined here with a prix fixe menu and price. I felt the price and portions were parallel and fair. Ambiance: For lack of better words, hipster to the fullest. From the huge American flag at the entrance to the hardwood flooring and everything else that makes it cool and non-conventional. Overall: The food was good, service could’ve been better, ambiance was great and price was fixed. I’d come back for cocktails or brunch if in the area.

Been here twice, once for dinner, and today for brunch. The first time I had a meat and cheese board, which was amazing. Despite being in the appetizer section of the menu, it was more than enough for a full meal, and the cheeses were delicious! They do their own pickling, and the olives and other additions were tasty as well. I sat outside at the dog friendly patio, where I made friends with the cutest golden doodle who I could tell was jealous of my food. Today for brunch we tried going to Fox & Goose, but it was extremely crowded with a wait of over an hour, so came here instead. Our wait was only about ten minutes; despite the restaurant being full it didn’t feel overwhelming with a very nice atmosphere. The service here is excellent, orders are taken promptly, and the wait for our food was only about five minutes! I was seriously shocked at how soon we were served, with as many people as there were. We were also treated to samples of their house churros, which were very good. I had the house granola which was served with fruit and yogurt with honey. I’m not a big fan of granola, but theirs was slightly sweet and not too nutty, and paired with a mimosa it really made the perfect light brunch. Will definitely be back again, a lot of their menu looks very unique and I can’t wait to try more of it!

Went here for a late brunch on a Saturday. We were offered a choice of either outdoor(back patio) or indoor seating, I chose indoors due to allergies. For drinks I had a Bloody Mary for me and my boyfriend had a few mimosas. The drinks were small but tasty. I ordered the hook and ladder burger(breakfast burger topped with a fried egg), partner had the carnitas enchilada. My burger was good but so large that I had to eat it with a knife and fork. Also I ordered it medium and it was more medium/well done. The décor here is really unique and inviting. The lights are made out of fire hose nozzles, very chic. All in all, I like this place. 3 ½ stars for brunch, 4.5 stars for dinner(I’ve been here before).

Took me a long time, but I finally made it out to this place! I came here to have brunch with a group of 6. We had reservations at 11:30am on a Sat and got in immediately. Walking in, I was surprised at how big the place actually was. Although there was plenty of seating inside, we sat in the back outside to enjoy the lovely weather. I ordered one of their specials that day, flat iron steak. Since it’s a leaner steak, I asked for it to be cooked medium, with over-medium eggs. I think it took about 12−15mins for the food to come out, which wasn’t bad at all for a group of 6. The meal I had was bomb! The steak was perfectly cooked. It was tender on the inside, with a nice coat of natural juices and sauce on the outside. The potatoes that it came with were crunchy and not oily or greasy. The eggs were cooked well and were actually quite fluffy! I definitely enjoyed my meal and will come back sometime again for brunch. The atmosphere was relaxing and the food was pretty good.

Coming out of a very insightful church service, my friends and I were looking for a place to have brunch and relax. Our first stop led us to one of our favorite spots for brunch, Easy on I. Unfortunately, they were packed to capacity. Our second stop led us to Fox and Goose, they had a line of people waiting that almost extended around the building. Just when we were going to give up and go to IHOP(to my extreme dismay), we stumbled upon Hook and Ladder. To be brutally honest, based on the appearance of the building(yes I know it sounds silly), I was hesitant to check this place out. I’m glad that I gave it a shot. Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted and added to the waitlist(15 minutes). To my pleasure, while we were waiting, multiple staff members inquired if we had received assistance. 15 minutes later our party of 4 were seated and provided with waters and menus. Due to my appetite, EVERYTHING on the menu looked good(don’t act like you can’t relate). However, I narrowed it down to the«Duck Confit Hash.» Because my small circle of friends are awesome, we were so caught up in conversation(not rudely entertained by our phones) that we didn’t realize that it took nearly 30 minutes for our food to come out. However, our waiter did a great job of keeping our glasses full in-between time. When our food arrived, everything was as ordered(we are a picky group) and everyone was quite satisfied with their meals(including myself). This place has a pretty unique food and drink menu. I will definitely make a return visit in order to explore their many options. Because I’m borderline selfish and prefer not to wait 30 minutes to an hour to be seated, I hope this place isn’t discovered by many… :)

Love the décor and vibe as soon as you walk in. You feel very comfortable and relaxed, which is exactly what I’m looking for during a Sunday brunch. They have inside and outside seating. The staff is always very knowledgeable and helpful. Not a fan of their Bloody Mary but the food was wonderful! So far I have ordered… — fried chicken Benedict: delicious but the chicken was a little dry — breakfast pizza: so amazing! It’s refreshingly delicious with all the vegetables the add plus the egg on top gives it the savory flavor to top it off — croque Madame: the flavors of the Dijon, ham, egg, and bread combine wonderfully. It’s reminds me of the Madame Cristo from tower café! — duck confit hash: was a little hesitant with the description but again… The flavors combine wonderfully for a savory flavor. Not too heavy and the sauce has a kick of spice I like. — biscuits and gravy: the biscuits taste like they are made from scratch(probably are) and the gravy is to die for! I typically prefer country gravy but this definitely is a close second.

As my Downtown revisited journey continues, I decided to come to this local restaurant and bar located at S Street between 16th&17th Streets. It’s called, «Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co.» This place delivers some remarkable creations of foods and drinks for the consumers across the Sacramento region. From weekend brunch to dinner, you can’t go wrong about their coolest food creations! The atmosphere is quite well lit filled with delightful customers who coming by to dine in. The concept is much industrial farming made with all the American patriotic artifacts which it surrounds the whole room especially the California flag at the bar side too. The employees from hosts to bartenders are doing a good job for making the customers like me a fantastic service. No cons at all. Now onto the food! On 1÷30÷2016, I decided to dine in here for breakfast thanks to the yearly special Sacramento Bacon Fest week. I just got in since 9AM to have a seating at the bar. This time, I ordered the Bacon & Butternut Squash Pancakes, and a glass of Nitro Coffee provided by Chocolate Fish. The goods: the Nitro Coffee did win my taste buds very well which I can feel the sparkling and minty taste of that iced coffee! Such a great drink. The cons: the pancakes. The ingredients did went well except the baking process of the pancakes. Some of the pancakes did baked too over burnt which I did discovered while I ate it half of my meal. I’m sure the chefs need to cook the pancakes properly next time to make it less over burnt. Otherwise, it’s a fine breakfast for me. Parking at Hook & Ladder can be difficult to park. You can park it at the nearest surface street parking if it’s available. Otherwise, you can ride a bike, walk, or use public transportation easier without the hassles. In the end, Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Co is a good, average local restaurant/bar that I really enjoyed coming here for the first time. I’ll come back for more to try more of their foods next time if it improves. A well, worthy visit. My rating: 3 ½ stars.

Hook & Ladder has finally been checked off of our long list of restaurants to dine at & I’m happy to report that we LOVED it! The ambiance was great… Low lighting w/an intimate setting(perfect for a date night), somewhat quiet w/a hip feeling to the restaurant. Our waiter was awesome… Very friendly, knowledgeable of the entire menu & checked on us frequently! Originally we had wanted to order the eggplant & burrata bruschetta, but unfortunately they had ran out of burrata so we opted for the 3 sausage trio instead & we weren’t disappointed at all. The sausages were made in house & sooo delicious. The fennel sausage was my favorite(can’t remember the other ones), but they were all great & the bread & mustards that they serve alongside greatly complimented the sausages. My husband ordered a bowl of the bacon & potato chowder that was on the 2 for $ 40 menu(not on the original menu) & the Calabrian Chili Pappardelle. He raved about both the soup & pasta(the soup was his favorite). The pappardelle was very fresh & the sauce was rich(from the sausage) yet a little sweet. Very tasty! I ordered the Roasted Beet Linguine & it was YUMMY!!! The linguine itself had a great mouthfeel to it & I loved the garlic cream sauce(light, but still very creamy). The spinach & cauliflower was perfect in this pasta… A great plate all around! They also have a great drink menu, a few pages long that I’ll have to try next time(I had a beer like usual lol). We really had a great date night & a wonderful meal! We’ll definitely be back to try other items on the menu, maybe even for brunch since i hear they have a terrific brunch menu :)

I finally ate here yesterday. I had the Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin (Braised Rainbow Chard, Tortelli Amatriciana, Golden Raisin Demi Glacé) and my friend had the scallops with rissotto. The bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was really good but the scallops with rissotto was even better. The pork tenderloin was cooked perfectly and so was the scallop rissotto. I would definitely come back here and eat again. Also got brussels and fries for appetizer and I ended up having too much food. My friend got the pickled veggies plate or whatever. I wasn’t really a fan of that. The price is a little more expensive than I’m used to but it was worth it for the price.
