Food: 1 star. Ordered the pork satay. The meat was super dry, probably old. The sauce was super sweet. Small portion for what you pay. Service: very good so I add another star. Not planning to come back :/

We came back twice after the original review. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has gone down hill. They were either bland or too sweet.

I had the beef and broccoli dish with the Thai tea. It was decent. The need had a different kind of taste that I didn’t enjoy so much. The owners were nice.

Discovered this place while visiting our cousins and going to the Train Museum. This definitely is a hidden little spot. It’s a restaurant and a little shop as well selling some food products. Run by a husband and wife, they’re really friendly. Again, with my allergies I had to ask the questions and they were very sweet and accommodating. I had your basic pork satay and mango salad, but the peanut sauce was a bit different. They have a special sweet soy sauce that I need to buy at the Asian Store! It’s hella good. The other thing I was able to try is there fried peanuts w/anchovies! That was totally different and wished I had bought a big container of it. Now I gotta figure out how to make it myself!

What a hidden gem! While on a mission for some smoked trout next door, I happened to discover this amazing little café. From the outside, it doesn’t look like much and the name«Indo Café» certainty does not sound like some authentic restaurant, especially in Old Sac. But don’t be fooled! This little place will surprise you. The menu is loaded with authentic eats. My rule of thumb on ethnic dishes: The more difficult to pronounce, the better it’ll taste! Unless it’s foreign for such fine, fine delicacies like fruit flies or larvae. Then maybe call Clark to join you. * Nasi Uduk * coconut rice with a plethora of textures and flavors. I can’t seem to stay away from this dish. It’s a perfect combination of salty, sweet, and savory. Not to mention the different textures from the meat, nuts, tempeh, and egg. It’s the whole package! * Bakmi Goreng * such plump noodles! I love fat noodles. Looks like your typical chow mien, but it’s full of flavor. * Resoles * chicken pastry served with peanut sauce. A little greasy on the outside, but creamy on the inside like a chicken pot pie. The flavor stands on its own and it didn’t really need the sticky sweet peanut sauce, so I used the sauce with the sausage roll instead. * Sausage Roll * basic sausage shaped meatball baked inside of pastry puff. The space is small and cramped, so it’s better to just grab and go. They have a pastry case and another one that sell Asian snacks. For such a small space, they sure have everything. I’ve been hunting for Indonesian food in Sac for ages! So I was surprised to find that this tiny place in Old Sac would be the one that satiates my cravings. I’ll definitely be back. rolling down the street, smoking Indo, oops, I mean eating Indo. Eating.

Kudos for good customer service, an extra star given. The owner reached out to me after I posted my review. He apologized profusely and said that this has never happened before(which I don’t believe, but I am forgiving). He said we could come back and receive a full refund, if we wanted to come back. He mentioned being distraught when the orders were messed up, he didn’t even think go offer us a discount. I appreciate him responding and doing all the things I’d hope he’d do. Today, we were eating at the original place we tried to go to when we ended up here at Indo Café. My co-worker went and asked for our refund and he gave us $ 50 in cash to cover all the meals and drinks we ordered. He apologized again and again. I appreciate the customer service, but I hope they really do look into their food safety management and sanitation. Those aren’t things that should be taken lightly, for any restaurant. Thankful for his responsiveness, but still worried…

The parking is not FREE. I was expecting the food will be quick(less than 30 minutes) but it was almost an hour and it was still not ready! It’s not busy. They should have more cooks to prepare the foods. This lady was trying to tell me «oo I am sorry we are busy». Well too bad we don’t have the whole day to wait for the foods! So bye! Just wasting one hour over there for nothing!

I was waiting for an HR, so I went to go check the status of my food with the cashier. I find out that the food haven’t even been cooked yet!!! The order was not complicated at all. I just cancelled my order and left. EXPECT A LONGWAITTIME. I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant, what a disappointment!

The only reason I am even giving 2 stars is because the food is okay. When I ordered, they told us to expect a 20 minute wait for food. We waited 1 hour to receive all our food. This is not an exaggeration. We ordered at 1:30 pm and did not receive our food until 2:25 pm. At the 45 minute mark, we asked about our food and received a very rude response claiming they had told us the wait would be 20 minutes. There were only 4 people ahead of us, when I was ordering they were calling number 40, I was number 45. Will not be coming back here. Another customer had eaten at another restaurant and returned only to get their food to go.

3.5 stars. I don’t think this location is the best. They could probably get a lot more business in a larger space and in an area that honors the free Sunday and evening parking. The service was alright. Nobody was rude and we barely spoke to anyone besides ordering at the counter. The menu is pretty big, so try to check it out online before coming in. I opted to get the Nasi Goreng(friend rice). It was really good! My boyfriend ordered the Egg Fu-yong which was also pretty tasty. I really enjoyed both dishes a lot, but I am torn on having to pay parking in Old Sac to come here. If I end up in Old Sac with an empty stomach, I’ll be sure to come back and check it out again.

I came here a few times because its the only indonesian restaurant in davis-sacramento area. As an indonesian, I know how good indonesian food taste like. I would say that the food from Indo Café is okay, not that good. One thing I didnt like was that when I asked the stuff where they got the indonesian ice tea from, the stuff went to the kitchen to ask the owner about it but the owner just ignored it, its prob because she doesn’t want the customers to find out where to get it so they can get it from her or whatever but its ridiculous to me.

Hole in the wall type of place. Or more accurately, a hidden gem. What a find! Their food reminded me of Indonesia, perhaps the most authentic so far in the bay area. The beef rendang was marinated and cooked to perfection, the meat is tender to the touch and graciously covered with spicy coconut curry sauce. The sambal(chili sauce), with a hint of sweetness which rounds up the spiciness, is a perfect companion to the nasi lemak(rice possibly cooked with coconut milk, lemongrass, and some other spice?) Get their homemade ginger tea! Really! The strong ginger broth accompanied with the smell and slight sweetness of the pandanese leaves and lemongrass? On a cold day? Heck yes! Even more, the price won’t make you wince as you take out your wallet.

Five stars does not have to be expensive. I’ve ordered here for delivery several times. Consistently quality. Never any stomach ache. Never any problems. Fast delivery. Yummy nourishing food with unique flavors hard to find in USA. I’m amazed by this place and glad I found it. I thought it was just another mediocre tourist trap due to being in old sac… Man that’s far from the truth. This is by far one of sacs best kept secrets. Go for the soups, and unique salads… Soooo flavorful and delicious. Authentic… The Indonesian woman is the owner she cooks the food herself, she’s my new surrogate mom!!! ;) hard to find real owner operators in the restaurant biz…. usually u will see Mexicans cooking something not from there homeland and being paid minimum wage… a Damn shame

With good prices, location and a healthy menu this is a nice spot for a light meal in an area that mostly features big and unhealthy meals. The menu could expand on the descriptions of their dishes however, as the lemon grass chicken features more of everything than it does chicken. The food is fresh and flavorful and the rice abundant. If you’re looking to have a lunch that won’t hold you down for your trip to Old Town, this is a great choice.

Seems a little sketch when you first walk in but don’t fret… Delicious food is just a few away! If you’ve never had Indonesian food before, it’s like a blend of Filipino and Thai food. If you haven’t had either, what are you doing with your life?! It’s tucked away in Old Sac kinda on the Riverfront. I couldn’t believe I had never been here before. This is definitely a hole in the wall. My boyfriend is half Indo so he wanted me to try this place so we came on a Friday night and was greeted by this grumpy looking guy but he ended up being a sweetheart. We ordered food and went outside to claim our table. Definitely recommend eating outside on a nice day because it’s really small inside. They guy hand delivered our order to us and asked if we wanted any of that pepper stuff and came back to give it to us. Gotta try that pepper sauce. It’s flavorful but not too spicy. As far as food, here’s the breakdown: Tahu Isi — If you love fried tofu, you will love this dish. Nasi Kuning — Don’t be scared of the anchovies, adds real depth to the dish. It was delicious. I wish I had ordered this instead of the Shrimp Kway Teow. Definitely recommend if you want a rice dish. Kway Teow — This wasn’t too bad. Like a mixture between Chow Fun and Pad See Ew. Could have used a little more flavor. like basil? Or maybe I just was hoping it would be more like Pad See Ew. Thai Tea — Real authentic. None of that powder stuff that other restaurants use. I can’t wait to come back and try more things. This place is really inexpensive and they also have some appetizers on display for you to purchase right away if you are in a hurry. Definitely worth a try if you are in Old Sac!

We were there a couple of days ago on a non-busy day. My girlfriend and I ordered Laksa, Indonesian chicken soup, chicken satay and Nasi Uduk. Only the Nasi Uduk was worth it: the coconut rice was fragrant and delicious. The meat portion could have been more generous though. Now, you may wonder, what’s the issue with the other dishes? Well, we have sensitive taste buds and just a sip of the broth we could tell that it came from a typical Indonesian or south east Asian instant noodle seasoning packets. In fact, both the Laksa and chicken soup broths were of the same kind, except that the Laksa broth had some curry paste mixed in it. The satay was very disappointing. The chicken used in the satay was marinated with teriyaki sauce: no, that’s not right. The essence of chicken satay lies in the marinate of the chicken meat. I guess it’s convenient to use teriyaki chicken meat since they also sell teriyaki chicken rice(which is not Indonesian BTW). Overall, I like the location of the café(old town Sacramento is cool!), but I will dine elsewhere if I find myself here again. Two stars for staff friendliness.

You do not need fancy places to find great food. You need love and passion to cook great food. This what this place is. Truly home made from scratch by some one who has a passion to cook and do experiments while keeping the old traditions. This place is run by a very caring lovely couple who really want to see you satisfied and do their best to provide best experience of Indonesian food. Thank you both. I really enjoyed spending my time and experience with you.

First time trying Indonesian food. Had slight trouble finding the place. I saw a DT(downtown) guide & he pointed me to the right direction. Essentially it’s before Joe’s Crab Shack before you reach the actual docks/train tracks & to the right of Joe’s Crab – where cobblestone road transitions to wooden planks. The café reminds me of a small convenience store in SF. A counter where you order & opposite to it are a few tables. There’s more seating outside on wooden plank tables & benches. Service was friendly, decently prompt & courteous. I did have to wait a bit because the lady in front of me took her time ordering 12 entrees. Apparently she spoke Indonesian(?) & talked to the chef/owner for a bit too. When she finally finished her order & I was in the middle of placing my order, she came back & tried cutting in to order more. The gentleman(possibly co-owner) was polite & said he’ll be right with her because he was helping me. The lady was persistent & kept repeating what else she wanted.-__– Her persistence paid off since made it known what she else she wanted right then & there. but hey, at least the gentleman tried to tell her to wait. I ordered a sausage roll and Nasi Kuning. The sausage roll didn’t taste freshly made that day. When I ordered this, they asked if I wanted it heated/warmed. I’m guessing this was sitting in the fridge & they threw it in a toaster oven(?) It’s a sausage embedding within a rectangular flakey/crunchy layered pastry – similar to an extra flakey/crunchy croissant. The pastry portion was too buttery to my liking & masked the taste of the sausage. I ultimately discarded the flakey pastry portion & ate the meat – which was ok, not too salty & had an aromatic taste to it that I couldn’t figure out. The Nasi kuning was ok as well. The shredded fried egg on top was super dry. It could have been over cooked/fried, or it was fried earlier & reheated. The beef portion of the dish had good flavor, but it was also a bit dry biting into it. I liked the turmeric rice, it was flavorful & not overly salty. Overall, the dish was ok & filling– it wasn’t something to «wow» about, nor was it bad. The portion size was shareable. Even when I was full, I couldn’t bring myself to throw away the rest(I couldn’t take the leftovers with me). I think it would have tasted much better if the things were made fresh. I ordered this to-go & ate right outside on the wooden plank tables. I noticed that when I opened the to-go box, there was no steam escaping out, nor condensation buildup on the lid. Usually food that just came off the stove(or even rice from a rice cooker) would produce that steamy effect. I did not experience that here. I have a strong suspicion that this was pre-made & re-heated«just enough» for it to be eaten right away. Hopefully this isn’t the same for dining in. I could be wrong, but even supermarket deli/wok places where stuff has been under a heat lamp all day has condensation build-up on the lid of the to-go container when you open it. I thought the price was a bit steep as well for what you pay for – although it is in a tourist(Old Sacramento) area. Despite my «complaints» I may actually return here to try other dishes, or if I’m the area & craving this type of food. Parking: it’s downtown metered street parking(at the moment, I believe metered parking is Mon-Sat), but that may change very soon to everyday(7days). There are parking garages nearby. If you decide to park within old Sacramento, be prepared to stop & wait for pedestrians, bicyclists, horse carriages as you crawl your car down the road looking for parking(or a way out). I’m not sure how parking is on the other side of the Tower Bridge, but that may be an a option as well to park on that side & walk over. Side note: If you bike, the bike trail«goes through» here(Old Sac), so biking here is an option. Though I do find it difficult to even bike through here because of all the pedestrians/tourists. [Plus you’d be biking on either planks or cobble stone].

It was a nice surprise to find an Indonesian restaurant in Old Sacramento! Indo Café is located on Front street(closer to the bridge side). There are a few tables inside for customers to enjoy their food. There are also plenty of patio tables outside the restaurant. Looking at the menu, there was so many dishes that sounded really good. I decided to order the following: Chicken Teriyaki, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Indonesian Noodle Soup. All of these dishes looked amazing! I only got to try the noodle soups. The chicken noodle soup was very flavorful, and I love how there was lots of veggies in the soup. The Indonesian chicken noodle soup had a hint of lemongrass flavor, and it was very delicious. Overall, service was really good here. I’d definitely come back if I’m in the area.

First time here. Ordered the Cap Cay. There were two in line ahead of me, and the man taking my order indicated that the wok was backed up. Hate to think how long the wait would be with any more foot traffic. Took about 15 minutes to get the chow. The Cap Cay was mostly devoid of flavor; very one-dimensional. In fact, it was so plain that I couldn’t taste the ginger in the«creamy ginger sauce» it’s marinated in. As another indicated, the sauce thickener here(probably corn starch) could be reduced as it affects both flavor and texture. Hot sauce was provided in a jar – still cold and sweating from being in the refrigerator – the kind of jar that has a small spoon and a lid, like that which your mother might use at the dinner table. Many people have touched that spoon before me. Wonder if any of them had a cold, as I do today. Hopefully nobody catches my cold. For just under $ 9, I’ve had a much better experience elsewhere.

This is one of my favorite little gems in Old Sac. I always think of overly touristy places or very expensive places when I think of food here but this place is different. Authentic, tasty Indonesian food at reasonable prices served hot and fresh is what it is all about! I have thoroughly enjoyed every thing I have ordered here. I stick to the authentic items and don’t stray into the Chinese or American style food so I can’t comment on those. The service is friendly but slow. Be prepared to wait a little bit for your food. Even though it looks like fast food, it isn’t all that fast.

This wonderful café really surprised me. I actually kinda hate Old Sacramento(natives, put down your pitchforks!), but Indo Café honestly makes me want to reassess. The space is super cramped, but the service is 100% awesome, efficient and welcoming. I’m not very familiar with Indonesian food, but the menu has such a wide variety with great descriptions and there are some pictures scattered around on the walls. Our lunches(a soup and a rice dish) were phenomenal. The food was delicious, things arrived quickly and I enjoyed the on-the-side hot sauce which allowed me to customize my food. I saw that they deliver(via bike!) within a 15 block radius. I so wish I worked in downtown since I would absolutely take advantage of the proximity, their deliciousness. Indo Café — I love you!

My first time trying Indonesian food! I’ve been to Old Sac a hundred times but never noticed this place. what a shame! Since I had no idea what Indonesian food consists of or what dishes are best here, I had to go through the Unilocal page and figure out the popular items. When I arrived, I ordered beef nasi koreng and a Thai tea. We also had to try the risole, one of the few items available in the fridge case to the left of the register. — Beef nasi koreng: YUM! It’s fried rice with beef, and mixed veggies, topped with an egg. The egg was overdone so it didn’t have too much of a gooey yolk run down across my rice, but that was my only complaint about it. And even then, I accepted it because the rice was so flavorful with just that little bit of yolk! — Thai tea: Yum! Maybe too much ice, not enough drink, but still a solid thai tea in my opinion. A little bit sweeter than most, and I liked it. — Risole: In my opinion the risole resembled a samosa… but not as great. It’s filled with chicken and peas, and peanut sauce on the side. The sauce was good though. They keep these risoles in the fridge case, and I noticed they just stick in the microwave to reheat it, and then present it on a paper plate. This place is definitely a hidden gem. From the outside it looks run down and perhaps closed, but the people inside and friendly and the food is good! Give it a chance!
