John Decker Photography

John Decker was the photographer for my wedding in October, 2013, in San Francisco, and I truly could not be happier with the photos and every aspect of the service. He was originally referred to me by another photographer I had inquired with but who was booked on my date. She said she had met John in graduate school and would trust him to take her own wedding photos. Long story short, I truly can’t thank her enough for the referral because John ended up being a perfect match for what I was looking for. Before I contacted him, I checked out his work online and was blown away; he has an incredibly impressive and diverse background in professional photojournalism and his portfolio was simply stunning, including a multitude of very powerful images.
Yet despite all his years of experience and great talent, he is a very easy going, down to earth guy. I think I knew the first time I talked to him on the phone that he was «the one,» and each interaction afterwards cemented my trust in him and my confidence in my decision to choose him. He was always incredibly responsive with all my questions both before and after the wedding, patiently answering all my questions and reassuring me that all would be fine (full disclosure: I had some major «bride brain» going on). The day of the wedding I hardly noticed he and his partner (assistant/​2^nd shooter) were there; he was completely flexible with going with the flow of the day, but still managed to get plenty of awesome posed shots, and he was discrete in taking tons of candid shots of us and our guests.
As if awesome photos and service weren’t enough, right off the bat, he offers very competitive pricing for an extremely high quality service/​product. But wait, there’s more; John was gave us different pricing options and offered up ideas to help us save money within his different packages! What a refreshing change from other vendors I consulted with, who continually tried to up-​sell services and products!
If I ever need professional photography services again, I know John will be the first number I call, and I will continue to hand out his contact information to all my bay area friends in need of a photographer.
In summary: Hip, hip, hooray for John Decker!

John is a true artist. He did our wedding and was flexible with our quirky schedule. He accommodated my wife and I with our special needs. He truly enhanced our experience. He captured the moments we wanted and he captured the emotion of our day. He is a gifted photo journalist and a professional.
He interacted with our guests, he did not steal the spotlight, he was there to serve us and our party. Its like he wasn’t even there at times, he blended in, then the next moment he was laughing and entertaining our guests. John is reasonably priced. He doesn’t hold your photos hostage and that is a big plus for me. It doesn’t get any better with a photographer. His portfolio speaks for itself. Use John, trust me on this.

My (now) husband and I were so fortunate to have John as our wedding photographer this past September. I originally fell in love with his style of photography while browsing through photos of weddings throughout the Sac/​SF area and beyond, and I can now say that he was my favorite wedding vendor throughout the entire process.
John was highly professional to work with, and was very friendly and engaging with our wedding party and guests. I was so happy when he showed up while I was getting ready on our wedding day, and that is always a good sign! He made me laugh through what could have been a stressful time. He provided JUST the right amount of direction to get the shots that he wanted, while allowing everything to play out naturally. Looking through our wedding photos now, I can relive that day through the story they tell because of how well he captured everything… such a gift to us!
He provided more than I had expected in terms of our prints as well, and he sent them to us in the most beautiful photo box that we will have forever (total surprise)! I have had so many compliments on our wedding photos, and I know John’s work speaks for itself. I got married in October 2011 at the San Francisco Legion of Honor museum. Since then, I’ve had this nagging voice in my head saying, «You have to write your Unilocal review, so that you can tell everyone just how wonderful John is. You have to write your review…» Well, I’ve finally gotten around to it. (Better late than never, I always say.) When I was looking for a wedding photographer, I was ecstatic when I found that John fulfilled all of my requirements:
1) Great at his job…“Check!” We wanted a photographer that was talented enough to do photojournalism, traditional photos and anything in-​between and that’s exactly what we got from John. We love our wedding photos! John’s website is a great representation of the quality of his work.
2) Affordable…“Check!” In 2011, for 8 hrs of service on my wedding day, an engagement photo shoot, online gallery, and a slew of other perks, I paid $ 3,262.50 (tax included).
3) COPYRIGHT RELEASE for personal usage…“Check!” I received hard copies as well as the electronic version of all my photos. I’ve been able to reproduce photos whenever I want and as many as I want for me and my family. Outstanding!
4) Wedding book (optional)…“Check!” Since I have some graphic design know-​how, I wanted to undertake the task of making my wedding book myself.
5) Great references…“Check!” I spoke with someone at the Sacramento Bee to verify his work and spoke to someone at the state capitol to verify his work. Both references gushed about John.
6) Personable & professional…“Check”! Probably the most important criterion for me. Our photographer was going to shadow me and my husband on the most important day of our lives, for the entire day. This person had to be someone we could get along with and someone reliable. I knew from our correspondences and from our engagement photo session, that John was the photographer for us! And on our wedding day, he exceeded our expectations. He was super easy to work with; he was on time; he followed my «wedding day timeline» to a tee; and he actually turned out to be a great source of calm for me and my husband through out the day.

John shot our wedding at the MacCallum House Inn in Mendocino in September. He was fabulous to work with and took beautiful photographs. We loved his style and ability to capture the little details. He even shot over 20 rolls of B&W film for us! The proofs and photo albums also were way beyond our expectations, beautifully printed and bound! We will treasure the memories he captured forever.

John did a wonderful job as your wedding photographer. He was very professional, hardworking, and had a great eye for creative and beautiful shots. We couldn’t be happier with the final product — he delivered gorgeous, amazing photos that captured our entire wedding day. He’s also got a great personality and he’s easy to work with. The day of our wedding, the photo taking was very easy and smooth, and he gave good direction. Our photos were delivered on time and according to contract and his prices were very reasonable. We interviewed 8 photographers and John outshined them all and we’re so happy we chose him! Hire him and you won’t be dissapointed.
