What a gem!!! This is a perfect spot. The décor and ambiance are charming and welcoming, and the place is immaculately clean. The owner/chef is passionate about the quality of everything he serves, homemade bread, many pastas, Czech stews, and the best red cabbage I’ve ever eaten. The sausages were plump and had that wonderful pop when punctured. The assortment of beers is wide and well described by the staff. We sampled many we’d not heard of. We’re coming back for dinner tomorrow!

If you were raised in a Bohemian family, and sometimes miss those great big dumplings made out of bread cubes slathered with gravy– this would be the place to get them. Yum.

After a crazy night before and recovering all morning my bf suggested we should go to an Italian place. I bookmarked this and decided we should check it out. It’s not in the hustle bustle area of downtown sac but it was very cute and cozy. We ended up sharing the Czech potato pancakes, goulash, and spinach ravioli with half and half of alfredo and pesto. We opted out of drinks since we over did it the night before. As bread came out we just kept eating it even though we knew we had dinner awaiting. Found out bread is made fresh there so is everything else. Ravioli was heavenly… little pillows of cheese and spinach in a very unsuspecting light alfredo and pesto sauce. It wasn’t heavy at all. Goulash was rich but so good we had to keep asking for more bread to sop up the sauce. We licked our plates clean. AND…we actually ordered desserts to go. We went for the apple strudel and ricotta cheesecake. We ate it back in our hotel room and was floored. Both desserts were not overly sweet or rich. Just right. Definitely a place we’ll have to revisit if in town again. I still think about those raviolis… so good.

Yesterday was searching all over Unilocal for a place for me and the lady to have date night… found this place based on all the great reviews and sure glad we did. Made a 7:15 reservation and when we got there our table was ready to go in a nice cozy corner. Once we sat down I realized this wasn’t just an Italian restaurant but Czech food as well this was a total blonde moment for me but I was really open to trying something new plus everything looked and smelled so good. We started off with the smoked salmon appetizer with fresh capers, purple onion and cheese bread. To be honest this was very good but I thought the salmon tasted better on their homemade bread but the smoked salmon was delicate and delicious. From there we decided to share some dishes based on so many hard choices. We went with the chicken piccata and the Bavarian pork goulash. Both of these dishes I could fill up pages of description of the flavors from the baked in sauerkraut and homemade noodles and dumplings, but I would suggest trying out this quant little place right on J street just minutes off the freeway.

4÷5− Rounded up for AMAZING service and the best damn form of a potato I’ve ever eaten. Came by on a Sunday for lunch and was surprised to see how dead the entire area was. Parking was street only but since it was Sunday, we found one easily. The restaurant itself is quite big and they offer indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated immediately by one of the sweetest servers in the world who was very friendly and helpful. My friend ordered the Spinach Ricotta Gnocchi which came with Tomato Bisque. She is a vegetarian and didn’t realize there was prosciutto in her dish(it lists it on the menu). However the waitress and chef were extremely nice and remade the order without the prosciutto. As for me, I ordered Bromborak and the Chicken Paprikash. The prices here are slightly on the more expensive side but the portions are decently large. Spinach Ricotta Gnocchi(without prosciutto): Quite good! As a meat-eater I definitely wished the gorgonzola sauce had a bit more of the fatty bite of prosciutto from it but even by itself its quite good. I also like a stronger gorgonzola sauce and I found this one a bit mild for me. Gnocchi itself had a good bite but a bit denser than I’d normally like. Spinach taste really does come out though. Overall I liked it! I just wouldn’t order it for myself(3.5÷5) Chicken Paprikash: The waitress recommended the paprikash and I’m a sucker for spazle and will order it almost every time I see it on a menu even though I’m always a bit scared to order chicken because I cannot stand even slightly dry chicken. However this chicken was extremely moist. It fell off the bone and was just delicious. The sauce was also quite good. It was a relatively light cream sauce and the paprika really went well with the chicken. The only issue is, the spazle didn’t really soak in the sauce and were a bit tasteless. However, I took a good portion of the spazle home and by the next day the sauce incorporated into the spazle more and it was delicious.(4⁄5) Bramborak w/Apple Sauce & Sour Cream: I saved the best for last because for the love of god I love these so much. So so so much. It’s such a simple homey dish but they’re so addictive. To be honest I had no intention on ordering these. I originally wanted a single side pancake but when the waitress asked if I’d like the apple sauce/sour cream version, I said yes so I could try something new and I’m so glad I did. First of all the pancakes themselves are perfect. They’re what I wish hashbrowns were. They’re grated and simultaneously fluffy and smooth without being too starchy on the inside. The seasoning was light but perfect. The outside is extremely crispy which I love. It’s topped with a good large spoonful of apple sauce and sour cream which may sound weird but it all goes together so well. I don’t know if I’d get the smoked salmon version as much as I love smoked salmon. The pancake is nice in how mild it is and I feel like adding red onion and smoked salmon may offset the balance. Either way, the pancake itself is delicious though.(1000000⁄5) Overall I really like this place. I will definitely be back for more potato pancakes!

First of all, I absolutely love the service here. Our waitress was very attentive and caring! I ordered the spinach gnocchi not realizing that there’s prosciutto in it. I told the waitress politely about my mistake and she enthusiastically offered to bring it back to the kitchen to remake. It was completely my fault but I felt like she took on herself, and it was so nice! I’m super grateful! Back to the spinach gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce(and no prosciutto). The gnocchi itself was perfect. You could tell that it was fresh because there was a hint of spinach. Texture of the gnocchi was not dry at all. It was chewy at first bite but not as chewy as mochi. The only thing I’m not used to is the creaminess of the sauce. I’m not a cheese fan(and never will be). To me, all cheese will have that sour taste to it and if I eat too much, I get emetic. So as much as I love the mushroom in the gorgonzola sauce, I actually had to avoid the sauce. This is more a note to self to ask for less sauce or try something else. Tomato soup that came with entrée was heavenly. I love it(and now I crave it). By all means, please choose soup if that’s the soup of the day. My friend let me have a bite of the potato pancake with the apple sauce and sour cream. OHHOTDAMN. The pancake was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I’m not a big fan of sour cream or apple sauce so I would totally get the potato pancake with salmon(or even just the pancake itself.) Overall, this place get two thumbs up. The food here is cooked and served with love :)

The La Trattoria Bohemia is located on J Street in East Sacramento near Mercy General Hospital. It is an Italian and Czech restaurant. We have driven by it countless times but finally stopped in for the first time recently. This was mid-afternoon on a weekend. The restaurant is a relatively small place with limited seating both inside and out. The décor is eclectic, with lots of bric-à-brac to catch your eye. We found the wait staff to be prompt and helpful. My wife and I started with wine. For me, the William Hill Merlot and my wife, the Lava Cap Chardonnay. Both were very drinkable. We then ordered caprese, dumplings with chicken gravy, the Marko Panini and a combination pizza. The caprese was OK, tomatoes were a little on the firm side. I would ordered the dumplings again, they were very good with the gravy. My wife’s Panini was delicious, chicken breast with mushrooms, onions and mozzarella cheese. The pizza had all the right tasty ingredients including mushrooms, pepperoni, sausage and salami. I also liked the crust but there was just too much crust for my liking. Most people would probably find it perfect, however, I lean towards thin crust pizza. All in all, a nice restaurant. Also a good value for your restaurant dollar.

I was at the Mercy General Hospital visiting a friend’s friend and we decided to have lunch before heading back to San Jose, it was Sunday and most of the places around the hospital were either closed or opens late, after debating between either Subway or this place, we decided to give La Trattoria Bohemia a try. I ordered the Pork Scallopini(Sautéed pork filets in sherry wine sauce with mushrooms, served with roasted rosemary potatoes and asparagus), it was delicious, the wine sauce is a bit sweet and tangy, very tasty. The potatoes are just as good. To make me ever happier, they also have a small, but great, selection of beer. I got the beer on tap(I don’t recall the name, but it was Wheat Double Bock), it was delicious. Wonderful place to have lunch or dinner, very romantic and cozy My only regret is that I didn’t get a chance to take any picture.

Expect to wait a bit for the food. However note the environment breeds a sense of family, community, and converation; as well as the fact that the food is well worth the wait. All 4 of us had happy bellies, merry hearts, and food comas after eating here to our delight and appreciation. Such a cute date spot or intimate night out with loved ones/close friends. The flavor on every dish was perfect. I sampled everyone’s being the glutinous foodie that I am. Why say anything else? I’ll let the pics talk. Also of note, the selection of alcohol pairings is impressive. The cheesecake was good but not amazing. It lacked flavor and had a grittier texture than I like. This does not mean it was not excellently made though. Just not my preferene. Their execution on what they were going for was perfect. Just not my favorite. I love their tiramisu though on all levels. Sorry no pics to show. The other 3 in my party killed the cheesecake. I had the tiramisu on a previous visit. Also the bruscetta was amazing and very flavorful. As an appetizer it did not last but a minute. Not a single tomatoes nor crumb was left. I’ve also had their combination Pizza on previous occasions and thoroughly enjoyed every calorie with zero guilt. Taste buds win over health and reasoning everytime! I mean cause PIZZA! Bön apetite! Do not pass the opportunity of ecstasy for your taste buds that this place provides/offers.

We were intrigued about the Czech/Italian menu here, and according to our server the owner is a Czech who likes Italian food, hence the split personality on the menu. The ambiance is great — a cozy, intimate café with old world charm. A nice selection of beers on tap, heaving on the Czech influence, we had the house special Pilsner which was very good. We were there waiting on a pizza to go for the Superbowl, and the two young ladies that were prepping for the dinner service were charming and engaging They said the chicken paprikash is the house specialty on that side of the menu — will be back to try it. The pizza is great! they are very big so if there are just two of you order a small and you will still have leftovers. Great spot don’t miss it!

Nice small place. The waitress was very friendly and the food was great! Ordered the pork picante and it was very delicious. Pork was very tender and flavorful. Sides were green cabbage and potatoes. There were several dishes that looks very good. Would like to come back and try them. Only thing I would say is… prices are a bit high, especially if you come for lunch, Unless you order the lunch specials. Would definitely come back again, just not often.

Hellooooo, it’s me. I was wondering if after all these years you’d like to meet. I’m not only a Meatetarian but also a self-proclaimed Pizza Pro. This is the best place for pizza in Sacramento hands down I’m not even playing. This might be even better than anywhere in San Diego… just sayin’. We usually go for the the Combo hold the bell peppers add fresh basil. I swear my eyes roll back in my head. I’ve also had the margherita pizza with prosciutto and that was a close 2nd behind the combo. Since we usually get the pizza to go it seems their other items might be even better than their pizza, I’m dying to try the beef ghoulash. I see people ordering and I’m just looking at it all thirsty. Protip: Their large pizza is about the size of a medium pizza at most places but this pizza is loaded.

What’s there not to love about this place? Small, quaint, full of personality, with a delicious menu to match. At first, I was a little confused. Czech and Italian? I thought the Italian was just a menu-buffer /filler to appeal to a wider clientele. But noooo. either way you go, you can’t go wrong. Ordered: * LATRATTORIASALAD: hm. which salad to choose? Go Trattoria or go home! This salad is a great choice. Refreshing apples, pears, and raspberry dressing. Summer in a bowl. * BEEFGOULASH: portion was bigger than I expected. Nice, rich sauce with tender stewed beef. It came with a side of bread, pickled cabbage and string beans. The cabbage was divine. * CHICKENPAPRIKASHPIZZA: was like brick-oven-baked rustic style pizza. The edges puff and rise to this nice airy, crunchy crust. Interesting fusion, but toppings were too simple — only chicken and cheese. no veggeis. There was A LOT of juices /oil puddled in the middle. Pizza was good, but only when eaten quickly. The bottom got soggy pretty fast and there was SOMUCH cheese, our tastebuds got tired of the flavor real quick. I had to shovel La Trattoria Salad into my pie hole to eat more of this pie. Next time, I would go with a pizza with some variety in toppings. Great little spot away from the hustle bustle of midtown. Stepping inside will instantly make you forget that you’re still in downtown. The smells from the kitchen fill up the restaurant and gives a warm, cozy, old world feel. Exactly how I would imagine stepping into some old Czech grandma’s house. Now only if I had some big knitted ikat design sweater and a heavy loogey-spitting accent to go with my GOuullassSshh. BTW, they have specialty beers that you can get in the big boy mug. Score!

I came to La Trattoria Bohemia for lunch one Wednesday because I had heard so many good things from my Unilocal friends, and they were in a recent article in the Sacramento Bee. I called in my order before heading down so that it was ready when I got there. I had some difficulty finding parking, because if there is no parking on the street in front of the restaurant, then you need to park down one of the side streets. DON’T turn down any of the side streets to the left, it’s permit only. You will have to turn right and even then it’s two hour parking. I ordered the lunch size(half portion) Spinach and Cheese Ravioli with their Soup of the Day(Brussel Sprout) and Fresh Bread. Anyone who reads my reviews knows I’m a sucker for homemade pasta, and theirs really hit the spot. It’s not my favorite, but up there. For reference, the lunch portion comes with four large ravioli. I really also enjoyed the hint of lemon in their marinara sauce. Yummy! The soup was good, but a tad salty for my tastes so I think next time I will try the salad. The bread was good as well but had no butter. I would definitely come back for another lunch or for a date night because the restaurant is super cute. There are a few tables out front on the nice covered patio, a few stools at the bar, and about 10 – 12 tables inside.

La Trattoria Bohemia is definitely the worthy visit for this Italian and Czech restaurant in the East Sacramento neighborhood. It’s a small, local restaurant located at J Street between 36th&38th Streets, this place has all the incredible ingredients of dishes that will satisfy your appetite! After I watched Good Day few weeks ago which the crew and the« Unilocal Sacramento guy,» Alex L filmed this place, I decided to try it out. As I entered, there’s a mini outdoor tables to sit including the inside dining area with a mini bar and wine spot at the left. The waitress and the waiter are very top notch! Very friendly, and approachable; no complaints at all! For the food ordering process, I’ve ordered«Chicken Paprikash» which it has boneless chicken thighs with a floured pasta called, «spazle» in a homemade paprika cream sauce. As I made my first bite, it tasted outstandingly good! I can feel the flavor of the sauce that locked the cooked chicken thighs very tasty! Incredible Czech dish! I haven’t tried some of their signature dishes, but I’ll might be back to try more including the bar side too. The parking is getting a little harder. You can park between 36th&38th Streets for a 2 hour limit stay. Otherwise, you can bike, walk, or transit that place in no time. In the end, La Trattoria Bohemia is a great, friendly Czech and Italian local restaurant in the East Sacramento neighborhood! Perfect for family gathering, or simply having a date night too! Highly recommend!

Since my favorite German restaurant, Stammtisch in Monterey, is so far away, I was ecstatic to find out that Sac has the next best thing! I fell in love with schnitzel when we lived in Germany. Similar to a Japanese tonkatsu, both are breaded and fried. Simple, yet delicious, when it’s done Right! It was our first time here and the place was at half capacity, it’s a rather small place with seating for about fifty patrons. We ordered the pork schnitzel with potato salad. It ones with either potato salad or roasted potatoes. We also ordered the sausage platter with roasted red cabbage and potato pancakes. The pork schnitzel was every bit as good as I’ve had in Deutschland. The sausage platter came with a bratwurst and weisswurst. The weisswurst along with the mustard gave me flashbacks to the German version of a hot dog, which I used to order from the sausage stands. The potato pancakes were a bit too dense and the potato salad wasn’t to my liking. It may not be to my liking, it was still pretty decent. We washed it all down with some Czech Pilsners. The ambience is cozy, cute and laid back. Aside from the pizzas, the entrees are Euro comfort food. Entrees are presented beautifully on wooden trays and gives you the feeling that you are dining in a Gasthaus in Europe. My only complaint is that it’ll be difficult trying to decide what I’m going to order on my next visit. Put this place on your bookmark!

The best thing about La Trattoria Bohemia is enjoying it two days in a row. I made a long overdue return and found it to be perhaps the best pizza in East Sacramento, and one so huge and packed with toppings that I enjoyed it all week long. I suppose my long delay between visits was because the pizza competition in Sacramento is so stiff. You’ve got options appealing to patrons both upscale(Masulo, Hot Italian) to the late night munchie crowd(Pieces, Uncle Vito’s) and dozens in between. La Trattoria stands out by tasting fresher than any of the competitors with plenty of ingredients and a thick, addictive crust. Wash it down with a massive stein of Czech beer and sit out on the quaint patio and you have a perfect weekend getaway in your own backyard. The rest of their menu is equally as tasty and their pies. The potato pancakes and the schnitzel are a must!
