One poor lady is running around like crazy trying to wait on everyone in the restaurant. Great quantity of food but not much flavor.

This Chinese restaurant serve hamburger which is surprising. What’s even shocking is I try their burger instead of the Americanize Chinese food. Boy I’m glad I did. It is very tasty, juicy, and it will satisfied your taste buds for a burger. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, jalapeño, and added guacamole. I can’t believe Chinese restaurant know how to make burger but this one sure can make a mean burger. 2 thumbs up.

I would give a 2 star for this place for the egg rolls. They gave out free veggie egg rolls which were good. This place is ran by two old couple(wife is the waitress and receptionist) and husband cooks. The service was a little slow but they are old but very friendly. Overall, the food was okay. Inside is really old and outdated. Chairs and tables are old looking. I think this places needs a makeover to boast the business. It’s located at a really good location where all the business and stores are. I think if they improve on the quality of the food, this place could be the next famous spot. It’s next to the Cilantro and that’s more happening. So I definitely, recommending the owners to upgrade interior.

Another sad disappointment in my search for decent Chinese food in Downtown. Lei’s is walking distance from work so I decided to pop over during lunch recently. When I first walked in, there was no staff person visible and lots of people milling about presumably waiting for their to go orders. After a few minutes wait, a lady came out with 3 bags and promptly gave them out while simultaneously instructing those of us waiting to seat ourselves. After the crowd dispersed, she quickly took all our orders and served us waters and salads in short order. I got the lunch special of sweet and sour pork with fried rice and a soda for $ 7.50. The food promptly arrived after I finished my salad and I hungrily trucked into my meal. Sadly, like Golden Rice Bowl, Lei’s food lacked flavor. The fried rice and sweet and sour pork were both flavorless. I was baffled. I didn’t think bland sweet and sour pork was possible. The sauce lacked any sweetness and the consistency was too thin. The pork was cut up really small and over fried so that it’s consistency was dry and crunchy. I mixed the pork with my rice in hopes of getting some flavor into the rice, but it was not to be so. I would have given Lei’s one star, but the service and pricing brought it up one more star. The lady who served me refilled my water several times and was walking the restaurant greeting and speaking with customers. I know I should have said something when she asked how my meal was, but she seemed so nice and I didn’t want to say anything negative to her. I might still come back again to give it one more try, but with other options to try in the area, it might not be anytime soon.

This places customer service was horrible and to think that no one else knows what you are talking about under your own language is just disgraceful. I was charged an additional 50 cents for charging a card which was ridiculous and probably illegal. The food prices are not a single dollar sign

I originally planned to give this a 1 star rating because of a pattern I have noticed with this establishment regarding portion size. I addressed the issue today with the manager who kindly discounted my meal but past dealings should be addressed. I have been coming here off and on with friends/coworkers for about 18 months. I have noticed that when I come here with a particular male coworker and we order the same thing, he always receives a larger portion. I’m female and not on some rabbit diet. I enjoy a hearty meal and expect to get the same portion size as a man especially if I’m paying the same price. Well today I about had it but mostly because I was hungry and to see that I ordered the same thing(won ton noodle soup) that my male coworker ordered and to have him make a joke of it was just too much. We’re talking a significant difference in the size of our meals. He had about 11 wonton to my 5 and a heaping amount of noodles. Basically I had a bowl of broth and sweet onion. Although my meal was discounted due to my complaint I don’t think I will be coming back. Just want to let people know to check and compare your orders. And J(my lunch partner) don’t even think about responding to this because you know what happened today with my order was wrong!

Not very good, and they did not give fortune cookies with the bill! My group had a myriad of menu options, and none of them were worthy of being finished. The salad dressing was watery, the typical Chinese dishes were certainly no frills and we were ignored from the time we got our food till the bill came. Poor food, poor service.

This chinese place just opened. Great food and friendly service. Food came out quick for dinner. We had the chicken wings appetizer and they were crispy fried. Also had some ginger beef and general chicken, and some special order chinese greens with singe oyster sauce. We sat at the counter and were able to watch the mexico and usa wbc game. There is a bar next door but that didn’t bother us. Its caddy corner from 24 hour fitness so work out and get some food afterwards. I would come again, next time to try lunch.

Ordered shrimp fried rice, and it was pretty bland… Even with sriracha doused all over it. But they are nice. I was hoping the average prices for dishes was going to be a lil cheaper than $ 8 – 9.

Had Lei’s House Fried Rice. Pretty good. I felt I was a bit harsh in the last review. They may not do noodles very well. Different day, different item, different result.

I ordered takeout from here(wonton noodle soup and fried green beans) and the service was friendly. The lady even offered me a side of rice on the house. Maybe because they were out of the potstickers I had initially ordered(she said they didn’t come in yet). But, the noodles were not packaged separately from the soup, so by the time I opened up the container, the noodles were withered out and had soaked up a lot of the broth. The wontons themselves were fine. The green beans were lightly tempura-ed and crispy, but not seasoned. However, I ended up overlooking it because it was served with a sauce that was really yummy. Like a ponzu/daikonoroshi sauce, kind of like the ones that they serve at a teppanyaki restaurant like Benihana. Probably not a place I’d go to every week, but I’d like to explore some more of their menu to see if it’ll satisfy my Chinese food cravings that I’ll get during the work week.

Good Chinese in Sacramento is hard to find but I think I finally found it at Lei’s kitchen. Food: My friend and I ordered orange chicken, general lei’s chicken, fried rice, salad and pot stickers all for about $ 25! Everything was fresh and amazing. Seriously, probably the best pot stickers I have ever had. There was enough food for both of us to have a midnight snack and each had lunch the next day. Service was incredible. The one waitress was friendly and helpful. Atmosphere: I think this place used to be a breakfast joint because it still has the wrap around counter. We went for dinner and were the only people there. I hope that’s just a dinner thing as downtown does tend to be dead after the business crowd gets off work. Also, it’s connected to one of the truest«dive’ bars in Sacramento, The Chamber Room. The noise carries over a little bit but I don’t mind that kind of thing. I will definitely be going back, hopefully soon.

I’ve been here several times now(in fact, I thought I had already reviewed this place), and the food has gone from great to OK. I’ve asked numerous times about combo plates, but they do not seem interested in that, which is a bummer. So unless you are sharing family style,(or REALLY hungry) you have to just pick one thing and have it with rice. The food somewhat inconsistent, but always seems freshly prepared(and super hot when it comes out!) and that’s nice. The dishes are mostly good. I love the chow mein(the bigger noodles, a little sweet, just how I like it), and the chicken wing appetizer is delicious(when it’s not over salted). Some have commented that it is expensive, but I don’t think it’s any more expensive than other lunch options downtown. The people are very nice. I was in once on a Saturday and their kids were there coloring. It’s nice to support a small family place. Overall, it is a good lunch option if you are in the mood for chinese food.

I’m not sure if I was just having an off day because it was a Monday or what, but I wasn’t overly impressed with Lei’s. I wanted to initially give them 4 stars, but when I thought about it more, 3 stars rang true for me. My coworkers and I dropped by because we were all craving Chinese food and when we Unilocaled what was nearby we agreed that Lei’s was probably the best bet. The reviews were decent and the proximity to our office was perfect. Upon walking in, one can clearly see that this was a former breakfast spot. There were swiveling chairs up to a bar which reminded me of how Denny’s has their place set up for folks dining alone. The decorations for this spot are all over the place(I enjoyed it). For example, they had a Japanese kanji written scroll picture and then stickon gift wrap bows above the swiveling chairs. Random? Yes. Entertaining? Double yes. Onto the food. The prices were decent, but their lunch menu could use a little sprucing. Every day of the week they have a different special. Other than that you just order from the general menu, but I would have loved to see some combo plates or something. Anyway I ordered the Mongolian beef rice bowl($ 7.50), which came with a side of fried rice. For my appetizer I had the pot stickers($ 6.25). The potstickers were rather small in size and they were deep fried. I’m partial to the fresh kind, but hey, every place serves them different. It was served with a ponzu type sauce and it was super salty. In fact my entrée was pretty salty, too. I found myself grasping for my water every two seconds. Which brings me to my next point: customer service. I’d give the customer service somewhere between a 4 and a 5. The lady was very on top of things and did regular table touches. I think in the hour long period we were there she filled my water up 5 times — impressive! She was also willing to split our checks(and even made a little joke when I asked; she said she would split the check only if I agreed to help wash the dishes). Lol. Sweet as pie, she was. The restaurant itself was also very clean — no stickiness when we sat down at the table and it seemed very well lit and not stuffy at all. I wasn’t mad one bit. So to wrap this up, would I come back? Most definitely. Maybe I’ll have a different experience on a Wednesday(hump day) or Friday(YEAAA!!!). Glad my co workers and I got to venture some place different. I know the building has been there for a very long time(there are historic photos on the internet) so I am glad I got to visit a little bit of history.

Place seem intimidating in the evening when most of the downtown business crowd is gone, however I’m quite suprised and happy to enjoy this place. It’s a hard working family woking out very good hearty eats. Excellent value/large portion plates. I’ve enjoyed a few things here… though I really like their beef chow fun. It’s a no frills clean place, with a cool 60’s type seating counter in front. If you happen to be sitting next door at Susie’s, you order your food and they will bring it to you. Nice touch!

Very solid chinese at very decent prices. EXCELLENT service. They get extra points with me for their sweet & sour chicken still being crispy when served. All of the food was fresh and my fiancé and I both commented that it seemed a tad bit«lighter» than our other favorite places… slightly less of a gut bomb than, say, Tea Cup. And…way in the back is a pretty weird/cool bar. So that’s pretty awesome. Will definitely be back.

Serving basic American-Chinese appetizers and entrees. Open to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. I tried it on a weekday, lunch hour and had the beef w/black bean sauce over rice for under $ 7. It was satisfying for the price. As mentioned, the breakfast menu is homestyle that also includes signature Mongolian Beef or Chicken breakfast burritos… how about that kids? The ugly about this place — no fortune cookies or soft serve ice cream… BOOOOOO!!! That is un-american my friend ;-P Seriously– adequate for a cheap, simple hot lunch.

The fortune from my fortune cookie today says, «Look in the right places; you will find some good offerings /lucky numbers:10, 42, 50, 53, 53 and 45(you can have them if you want).» For the most part the fortune was right. Lei’s Kitchen is your typical American Chinese food place, and surprisingly they serve American breakfast in the morning. They have a lunch special, which lets you pick two entrees and all your typical dishes like fried rice, Mongolian beef, and Kung Pao chicken. I opted for the wonton noodle soup as I am on the endless search for the perfect wonton noodle soup in Sacramento. The noodles are pretty standard and the wontons were okay. They were filled with what I believe to be ground pork(when things are ground, it’s sometimes hard to tell what animal you’re eating). The wrap that they used was a white skin, so it was softer than typical wontons. The soup had some flavor, but it needed to be spiced up with some siracha and a dab of soy sauce. For the vegetables, they used napa cabbage, some water chestnuts, broccoli and zucchini. Not the best, but not the worst. 3 – 3.5 stars worth. Other people seemed to have the same feeling about the other dishes. The staff here were really nice and helpful. It was definitely worth that additional star. If you’re in the area and want 3 star Chinese food and great service, Lei’s isn’t going to blow you out of the water but it may satisfy your craving. When I walk by during the morning, it seems a lot of people come in for breakfast, so I might stop by for a breakfast burrito. A «monoglian beef burrito» sounds actually pretty good.
