DIG. IT. This is my new favourite family. I have been searching for a new community of writers/readers, since leaving the Bay Area. Thank you Heather and Mondo Bizarro for Midtown Out Loud and the supportive and loving environment that you’ve created! I’ve found my new community! … And, thank you of course, to all of the people there. cheers, C

This is a new open mic that just started up, happening every other week at Mondo Bizarro(formerly Butch ‘n Nellies). Though not specifically queer-themed, it draws a lot of artists from the queer community, serving an important bridge between queer and straight artists. The quality of performances is on par with Luna’s more established Poetry Unplugged, in that even when the stuff is bad, it’s epically bad enough to be entertaining, and there are a good number of professionals showing up. What I love about this event is that it both helps bring business to a local business(what I refer to as the«dyke café») and provide a more nurturing venue for queer artists(something desperately needed in this city). There’s a great sense of community already emerging, and I sincerely hope this will stay around for quite a while.
