Paws and the Palette

It’s difficult to review this shop because I’ve never made it into the store. Despite stopping by during posted hours, twice, and the «open» sign displayed in the window, the shop is not open. If you are going out of your way to come here, I’d recommend calling ahead.

This is our local dog store. Every time I go in I hope to find something really cool for my little girl.
Dog Carriers: They have several to selection from for your 10lb dog
Dog Clothing: Small selection.
Dog Beds: Look down and you can’t miss them
Misc. Dog stuff lots: Leashes, collars, dog themed jewelry,
Dog Bakery: They have premade items and special order cakes
The selection of stuff is ok and it’s the only place in midtown so that is a plus.
Customer Service. I don’t know where to begin. I’ll keep it short. It’s horrible. When you enter the store you feel like you are walking into someone’s house and rudely interrupting them. Ordering on the phone isn’t any better. They just have no manners. She was on the phone with someone else and instead of let me take your number and call you back she just said she was on the other line. That was the end of that call and special order.
The good thing is they aren’t pushy when it comes to sales. I found a little pendant and went to check out. And she tried to talk me out of it as it was sterling silver while the others were less expensive metals. I said it’s a gift it’s ok. Some may say that was helpful, but if were the sales person you should just say «I’m so sorry for your loss.»

There was a man sleeping in the lobby when I came by. It was really awkward. But other than that, the store is really cute!

I’m a little confused on why the service I received today was nothing similar to what everyone else has mentioned in the reviews. I usually go to another place when it comes to getting Toby a birthday cake. After finding this place on Unilocal,and with the great reviews and of course the pictures of the cute little treats I had to give this place a try. I called Friday morning, around 11 am to ask if they had already made cakes or if I had to order them in advance. I was coming from across town, 20 min drive and didn’t want to show up and have to drive back for nothing. Well the lady who answered the phone wasn’t the friendliest. And it was okay, it was a quick phone conversation. I showed up to the store around 0100 pm and there was a sign that said «back in 10». Since I drive 20 min to get here I figured I should wait. 15 min passed by and finally someone showed up.
I walked in behind the lady after she unlocked the door. I was not greeted, it felt a little awkward that I walked in and I was the only one in the store and she was starring at me so I said hello. She said let me know when your ready. I asked for the birthday cake, and another small treat. She said she would pack them for me. I walked around, grabbed some turkey jerkys and went up to checkout. She gave me the total, I paid and went on my way.
If I hadn’t drove 20 min to get here I prob would have left without buying anything from here. She seemed to have not cared that I was shopping in her store.
One star bc the cake itself was very cute. Service wise I would never come back. I’m confused bc the reviews are great from everyone else, but the service I received isn’t worth giving more than 1 star.

We love this place. Best place in town to prepare for a doggie party. I was so happy to find that they already had a cake ready and it was only 20 dollars… wow! Every other place in town cost twice as much and zero selection. Going back again in a couple of days to pick up another cake (they are vegan btw).

Not a fan of leaving less than stellar reviews. This place is cute and tuckd away. When I walked my dog in the store, no one was in the store. After waiting for about 5 minutes I was about to walk out when the store keep came in. Immediately she started throwing cookies at my dog. I do not see very well and it took me by surprise. I asked her not to do that as I was looking for a particular treat and did not want my dog digesting beef or other things that he can not eat. She said that he was too skinny and was overly concerned. All I can say that my dog is that way because he is a working dog. It was not a wise way to retain my business. I did find what I was looking for but am hard pressed to return with less than constructive criticism from the store keep. I will prepfer to patronize Incredible Pets and Pet Dept. Store in East Sac.

Cute little store. They have everything for dogs. The reason I was there is for their dog’s cake. Need to buy for my little one, unfortunately they don’t have it in stock. Will need to order couple days before. So I just buy all the cute. Treats. I also wish they have more clothing choices so I can spoil my pooch

This place is amazing! My rescues birthday was over the weekend and we were out of town so when we came back on Monday we decided to celebrate his birthday. Knowing that today was Presidents’ Day we were crossing our fingers that this place wasn’t closed. After hearing amazing things about their cakes etc. I had to try it out so calling today the bakery was closed but (I believe she was the owner) answered the phone after hours and remained open so I can get a cake for my dogs birthday! So thoughtful right? Not only did she do this for us the cake we bought and snacks I picked out were amazing and my dogs loved them I was nervous at first because my dogs are so picky with treats, but they ate all of it. Perfect birthday for my little guy and his fur brother enjoyed a slice of cake with him. Thank you so much for being so generous. We will be back and next time I’m bringing them with me :)

After checking the hours, I was here at 11 to grab some things for my pup, by 11:10 nobody had shown up to open the shop. Just came back and at 12:43pm store is still not open. Very disappointed since I came from across town, what’s the point in having posted hours if you’re not going to follow them? 2 stars because the selection at least looked nice from the outside.

Bad service closed when there suppose to be open very erratic. Not a way to run a business

This is the cutest doggy bakery in all of midtown Sacramento, but it is also the only one I could find so I’m biased lol. But seriously it’s an adorable boutique. I recently did a Unilocal search for a doggy bakery to get something for my pups birthday, and this was the only local place I could find, and I was seriously worth it.
I bought him the cutest little pupcake that I’m sure he will enjoy along with a happy birthday cookie. This place is also animal friendly, so bring your fur baby in! There’s a huge selection of clothing, treats and other adorable things your puppy obviously doesn’t need but you obviously want to give them.
So if you are like me and feel the need to spoil your dog on its birthday come here and do so! Also it’s a local business and you always want to help those guys out!

A wonderful store. Handmade dog sweaters, treats, gifts and a fabulous bakery. Sara is awesome. Knowledgeable, funny and gracious. Dogs are welcomed with treats and pets. Open Tuesday through Sunday. 11 am to 4 pm.

Owner was pretty friendly and nice. I told her that it was my dog’s 1^st birthday and wanted to get her a pup-​cake. She explained to me what she offered. I was a little disappointed that I didn’t get a free baggie of treats like a previous Unilocal reviewer did on their dog’s birthday.
My dog shared her pup-​cake as well as other treats that we bought with her friends at the dog park. everyone loved it. i’ll will be back for my other two fur babies birthdays.

So glad we found this little gem! The owner was so sweet and Oliver loves his new sweater. The specialty dog treats are the cutest I’ve ever seen and apparently very tasty. We’ll be back regularly.

My dogs’ birthdays were approaching and I wanted to get them special cakes and/​or treats. I didn’t want to go to petsmart/​petco because they overprice everything. But thanks to Unilocal,I found this place and I’m so glad I did. I spent $ 14 and I walked out with a big «happy birthday» cookie, two chicken jerkeys, 2 yogurt bones, 2 cinnamon bones, and 2 bacon infused heart shaped treats. My dogs LOVED everything. The girl working there provided great customer service and was very knowledgable. I highly recommend this place. Can’t wait to go back and take my babies with me (:

This place is like Sephora but for dogs. Their packaging even includes a paw print bag with matching tissue paper. Beyond cute.
They have really cute toys. There’s «Chewy Vuitton» toys for the designer dogs out there. There’s some really yummy looking dog treats that make me really tempted to try some.
Dog cakes orders need to be placed in advance. Only the manager can take the orders. There’s 3 sizes for the dog cakes but only the biggest is a bone shape which is probably a good 12 inch cake.

Since I’ve adopted my two dogs about half a year ago, every dog shop, or any of the other animal places in general, have been popping up ubiquitously. They interest me as much as I want to go check out a clothing store in the mall, or a new restaurant in town. I even tend to spend more time than I should in the dog aisles in convenient and grocery stores, just to browse on doggy treats for my 6-​year-​old poodle and 6-​month old shichon.
This accidental discovery during a walk back to the car from lunch was most pleasing. I’ve only been to one other dog bakery prior and that was all the way in San Francisco, where I thought this kind of place would only be seen. Little did I know, Paws & the Palette exists here in Sacramento! And to much of my surprise, it’s actually slightly bigger and better than the one I ventured in back in SF!
Dogwear, food, treats, bowls, plush toys, collars, magnets, wall art, you name it they have it here for your doggy pal. At one point I was a bit overwhelmed there were too many nice things to look at and check out. To say I’m a dog person is an understatement. Adopting Max and Koa is one of the best things I did for myself. They truly are a man’s best friend.
Service is really nice and helpful, too. A kind girl approached us while we were looking at their wide selection of doggy pastries, and explained everything so thoroughly and patiently while we chose our treats.
I never thought I’d be one of those pet owners who’d go crazy with this kind of stuff, but turns out I’m more than willing and proud to admit that I spoil my dogs on a regular basis. I’m happy I ran into this place. A lot more visits in the near future, for sure.

Since my baby boy was turning 3, I decided to treat him to some special baked goodies and healthy snacky snacks. I’ve purposely avoided this doggy boutique and barkery because I knew I’d love it and want to buy everything in sight. Well, guess what? I was right! Dammit. There goes that vacation…
I came solo in order to scout the place before letting the hounds loose (figuratively speaking only, of course). My dogs’ tails can do some serious damage when they’re excited. And what’s not to be excited about? When you walk in, it’s literally a dog’s world (there might be cat stuff too, but I’m there for the pup stuff). Dog biscuits, clothes, books, leashes, collars, art, beds, knick knacks… oh my! The owner Lisa greeted me right away and we headed over to the display case of cakes and cookies. I really wanted the bone-​shaped birthday cake but you need to call in your order at least 2 days in adavance. I settled on a few yogurt frosted biscuits decorated with sprinkles and «happy birthday» that Lisa said were the most popular items. I also grabbed a few more baked items and some jerky treats off the self-​serve table. Lisa packaged my purchase up in an adorable paw printed gift bag and tissue paper.
I met Lisa’s little love bug, Ladybug, who was recovering from some recent medical issues. What a sweetheart, laying in front of the counter, just content on being with her mommy all day. I really got to know Lisa and Ladybug’s health concerns, and I truly wish them all the best. Thank you, Lisa, for sharing your love for our 4-​legged family members! It’s truly appreciated!
