Practice Yoga

I went with my friend on some sort of deal for unlimited yoga for 3 months. The instructors are very sweet and understanding and helpful. They didn’t make us do poses which we didn’t want to do, which is great because the headstand gave me a headache. This is the hardest yoga I’ve ever done though as it’s for real actual «yogis» and the studio is a bit small. Thankfully it’s not too crowded. The teachers actually adjust you to be in the right poses which I like because doing it right has the most benefits, but if your someone who likes your space more I wouldn’t recommend. If it wasn’t so far away from me, or I had motivation to go I would say it’s like a stamina and strength building exercise for me, as well.

I love Practice Yoga! If you need a break from the Vinyasa flow classes that are offered all over town, try this place. I went for the yoga wall classes and they were great and very different. The regular classes — Ashtanga & Hatha — are outstanding. They also offer flow classes. Studio is clean and light, instructors are friendly and sometimes offer chocolate.

I found the idea of wall yoga intriguing. I purchased their $ 20 for 10 day special and ventured downtown. Their space is very welcoming, open, and bright on first inspection. It went downhill from there.
The instructor gave me a quick crash course on using the wall equipment. His rapid fire delivery is reminiscent of an uninterested tour guide: brisk and toneless. His class continued on in a drill sergeant manner, barking orders.
I’ve been practicing yoga for over 12 years and I know what I should and should not be doing for MY body in a pose. This instructor had no regard for personal modifications. I was legitimately trying to avoid a knee injury, while he was ordering me to deepen my pose. That’s not how one teaches yoga.
One star for the beautiful space, and one star for the great idea of wall yoga.

Found Practice Yoga while visiting Sacramento for a training class. Loved the cleanliness and professionalism of the studio. I took class 5 days in a row and loved each class because the teachers were attentive, kind and respectful. The wall work was the highlight, I walked away from each class feeling healed, grounded and pain free. Give this studio a try, I only wished I lived closer.

I was so scared going to the wall yoga class! I was a little intimidated when the instructor started going through the moves and proper ways to maneuver through the wall poses.
To my surprise, I’m strong, safe, and quite the yogi because I was upside down in no time! It was a lot of fun and really challenged not only my strength but the ego within.
I need to make more time to come here because it’s quite enjoyable! Everyone is so nice as well. That’s a huge plus for me.

I travel frequently for work and it is often difficult to find a yoga studio that offers ashtanga near the hotels I stay in (usually downtown). I was very excited to come across this place via a google search. I’ve come twice now (once a year while I’m in town for work) and I have enjoyed each visit. Bill is a very lighthearted and fun teacher and I enjoy his approach. I hope to continue my annual visit!

I have been practicing at Practice Yoga for over a year now. It has fast become my home away from home. The studio is conveniently located on 16^th Street in Midtown, Sacramento. It is new, warm, intimate, clean, and well kept. Street parking is readily available. Jim has created and fosters a family-​like environment. Everyone is made to feel welcome and at home.
All of the instructors are knowledgeable, intuitive, encouraging, and motivating. They quickly get to know your name, ability, likes, and dislikes. I thoroughly enjoy Bill’s Hatha and Ashtanga classes. He is a master yogi, who makes his classes challenging, yet fun. Jim’s Masala wall class is a good mixture of work out and therapy. You will leave his class feeling good and stretched out. Jamie’s Therapeutic wall class is a great intro to the wall and her calm demeanor will have you relaxed and upside down in no time. The Power Wall class is challenging and will work you out. JP motivates me to work hard.

Practice Yoga is the only studio in town with dedicated wall classes. I initially came to check out the wall. I enjoyed the wall classes and studio so much that I decided to try out the floor classes. My practice is now made up of a combination of both wall and floor classes. The two styles complement each other nicely. Practicing yoga has improved my overall physical and mental health.

I give Practice Yoga two thumbs up! Come for the yoga, but stay for the chocolate and camaraderie! Start the New Year off right. Come by and «hang out.» You won’t be sorry. It is like the Cheers of yoga studios!

I have a goal to touch my toes by the end of the year and I wanted to get in a little more shape, so I decided to take yoga. I bought a 3 month unlimited groupon. I tried going at least once a week and more if I could. The classes were very helpful, teachers were nice and adjusted students as needed. The class sized were small, so you receive plenty of one on one attention. The first class I went to was a beginning yoga and halfway through the class students were doing head stands. I got a little scared that day, but then I realized over time that they do head stands everyday and I could skip it if I wanted to. Chocolate is always in the bowl for breaks when I couldn’t handle certain poses.
I am still unable to touch my toes, and don’t think that yoga is really for me. But it was a great experience that I am glad I tried.

This is a great place and Jim is a wonderful instructor and very inspiring. The noon classes are a great break and refresher. Also, the wall class with Jaime is a great experience. At first the wall can be a bit intimidating, but with her encouragement and support it was a powerful experience.
And No Mirrors! Odd I know but really quite peaceful to just be guided by the instructors. This studio is very relaxing and has all the equipment (mats, straps, blanket props) you need or you can bring your own. Namaste!

Deeply enjoying my 10 card Groupon and will continue to attend classes. I have attended 1−2−3 Ashtanga, Hatha and Therapeutic Wall, as well as Power Hour with Jim. I love the small classes, individual attention, and classic style. The owner learned my name on my first class. There are chocolates for all yogis and lots of praise and joy in the practice.

I bought a groupon for this place so I decided to use it. I went to the therapeutic wall yoga class and marsala wall yoga class. When I first tired it I felt so dizzy. I guess I am not used to going completely upside down and the instructor was super energetic and nice. I like how he walked around to make sure everyone was doing it right and even gave some adjustments when needed. I think all yoga teachers should have this hands on approach instead of just demonstrating everything in the front of the room without moving around.
I definitely do think it will take a while for me to go upside down, it was nice getting a really deep stretch because you were on the wall. I might try the power wall yoga class but it seems crazy intense plus when I get dizzy I am dizzy and lightheaded for the rest of the day. =/​
This is the only place in Sac that has wall yoga so might as well try it. Plus the classes are around 6 people right now which is a great class size.

I bought the Groupon for this place and went to my first class last night — I LOVED it. Bill Counter is a wonderful and lighthearted teacher, the studio is simple and clean and the class was fantastic. I cannot wait to try their other classes!

This place is awesome. I did an introductory class it was mostly centered on the wall. which I loved because I use TRX and it was so cool to be able to combine that concept with yoga. Jim was my instructor he was great really took his time with everyone. Adjusting poses tailoring to each of us in the class. I felt so great after. can’t wait to go back!

I just came to town was curious about the Yoga Wall so I dropped in. The owner Jim was great about making sure I felt comfortable in this lovely, unpretentious studio. I also went to a Hatha class and was happy to be in a room with women of various ages, shapes and sizes supporting each other as we played around with new poses. No charge for mats and other props and free street parking just around the corner! I’ll be making this my regular studio.

I work next door at Allure, and we tried Practice Yoga together for a team building exercise. We were privileged to have the owner Jim show us the ropes (literally) of the power wall class.
As someone who has never done yoga before I can honestly tell you that It was not intimidating at all, and was really fun! He had us posing off the walls looking more like flying squires then traditional floor yoga. It felt like when you were 8, just playing on the jungle gym instead of working out. Jim was soooo fun and engaging, and most importantly helpful.
I will definitely be back!

I really like this place. I practice yoga at many locations in downtown Sacramento, and I have added Practice Yoga to my list of studios. I like the Power Wall class. I don’t know of another studio that offers this type of practice. A total abdominal killer! Also I don’t know of many studios that offer a traditional Ashtanga practice in their formal repertoire. So it is nice to have some of the «yogic lineage» offered here. Plus Practice Yoga partners with other studios in town for workshop and community events with the intention to build community, and I think that is great!
The space is clean, welcoming, and just feels good. I will be recommending this studio to my friends.

I have always enjoyed Yoga, but had always participated occasionally. As a younger senior citizen with a high stress job, I really needed help. I needed it all… strength, balance, flexibility, fitness, in short, a work out for the mind, body and soul. I do NOT have any of the following attributes to my advantage:
tall height,
slim, wiry physique,
long flexible limbs,
less than 50 years of age
So, although I was attracted to Ashtanga (it looked like a lot of challenging fun), I intended to just settle into some Classical Hatha and maybe try an occasional Wall Yoga class. Then I happened to show up for my first yoga class on an evening that Bill Counter was leading an Ashtanga class. I explained that I was a novice… pretty much a klutz and probably not ready for Ashtanga. Bill smiled knowingly, directed me to a place on the floor and stated, «Do some things and skip other things.» So I stayed, loved the class, and was completely hooked.
I am getting better each class. I have learned to appreciate gradual accomplishment and find humor in my attempts. Things I love about Practice Yoga:

Other things I dream of trying in the future (Power Yoga, Mysore Ashtanga)
The other students (very friendly and warm people who are sometimes fun to watch)

I have been going to Practice since it opened in March. I love the new space and the classes are wonderful. My favorite class would have to be the Power Wall class. If you are looking for an ass-​kicking workout, make sure you go to Miranda’s class. She will make you sweat and super sore the next day… even if you think you are in great shape! Her thereputic wall class is like getting an hour and a half full body massage. Seriously, though any of the classes are great. If you are into Ashtanga yoga… this is your studio. I have been going to classes with Bill for the last four years and I love his classes!
If you haven’t checked out this studio, it is certainly a must! I will miss Practice when I move next month!

My favorite yoga instructor *told* me I had to check this place out, so I did. I couldn’t agree with her more, thanks to Jim and Bill and the amazing staff they have put together, Sacramento now has an awesome yoga studio.
The teachers are amazingly talented and very interactive and directive, they help you get the most out of wherever you are at in your practice. The classes range from arguably the best Ashtanga in town, to power-​hour Vinyassa style flow sessions that turn your mat into a swimming pool, to traditional Hatha from instructors completely immersed in their practice. I always find the classes and teachers instructive and fun. The *yoga-​wall* is unparalleled for traction stretches and core work.
They have great hours, have nice & new equipment, and have done a good job with the studio. Their pricing meets or beats the other studios in town — Practice Yoga has a 10 days unlimited for $ 20 try-​out package. There is plenty of free 2-​hour street parking behind the studio and it’s on 16^th @ H so it’s easy to get to.
Very impressive, really happy about my membership. Check out their website & drop in on a class.

Awesome new yoga studio in Midtown. Beautiful space and facilities. I’ve attended a few different classes here and have been blown away by all of them. Practice has a very diverse and talented group of teachers. If you’re bored with the repetitiveness of the Barron Baptiste style classes that every other Sacramento studio offers, you should give this place a try. Their Ashtanga classes are challenging, fun, and athletic with a huge variety of poses that you don’t see being taught at other studios. Their main Ashtanga teacher, Bill Counter is a world class teacher and totally inspired me with the humorous and light-​hearted way he teaches. I also tried one of their «yoga wall» classes and it was an amazing work out, especially for the core. It left me feeling pleasantly sore in muscles I didn’t know I had. Definitely gonna make this my go-​to studio in Sac.
