Ralph Gracie Jiu Jitsu

My daughter has trained for a number of years now at Kovar’s Martial Arts. We did a trial a while back with Mr. Manny and his team and while we decided not to enroll and to continue our training at Kovars, I can’t say enough good things about this place.
Great jitsu program, Mr. Manny is very personable and approachable. His team also seems to do really well in tournaments. We just like the combination of karate, kickboxing and jitsu like they teach at Kovars, but if you like jitsu only, this is the place for you. Highly recommend!

I came, I saw, I now train. This is a solid school to train at and compete for hands down. Between Manny, Kolo, Nate, and Pedro you never skip a beat or miss a single technique when these guys run class, the coaching is solid, the team is great and this is definitely a family you become a part of. Love this place as my second home and train their 5 days a week because I simply cannot get enought BJJ or their Coaching… Oss

No complaints. Good gym. Friendly, approachable people run it. Manny let my husband and I try it out for a week to see if it was good for us. Unfortunately, our schedule doesn’t coordinate around the times the gym is open. Had it not been for the time clash, we would’ve joined.
During my trial, Kolo instructed me and seemed very knowledgable about techniques and held himself in a professional manner. He also smelled good, haha.
My husband said he had a good time rolling on the mats with those that were there.
I recommend this place to anyone interested in jiu jitsu in the Natomas area.

Definitely recommend checking this place out. I drop in whenever in town from LA during the holidays and long weekends. Good training, fun, and one of the best workouts. Manny and everyone there are always welcoming. Sunday’s open mats are intense, people come train from lots of other schools.

Excellent place to come roll, just started and looking forward to learning technique. The gym is great the instructors are friendly and everyone is willing to help you to grow and learn. Really am glad to make this my home gym to get better and be a better BJJ practitioner overall. I have already recommended this place to others who are looking to get started. This is a competition gym that looks to gear there students to compete and I love that.

Little over a year ago I went to see my dentist and right next door I was pleasantly surprised and extremely excited to see a Ralph Gracie Academy. Entering the Academy the first person to greet me was head instructor BJJ Black Belt Manny Gonzalez. After spending a few minutes with him I felt the passion and excitement in his voice regarding this beautiful Martial Art (Manny so glad you didn’t follow your other option). At this point I’ve been away from BJJ for over a year and a half and still recovering from major Jaw Surgery. After discussing this with Manny and with his council we came up with a path (along with his oversight) to get me back on track on my BJJ journey. Thanks to Manny, Kolo, and all my sisters and brothers at Ralph Gracie Sacramento… including all those I’ve rolled with on Sunday open mat, I’ll be competing in my first post surgery IBJJF tournament next weekend in Las Vegas. Anyone seeking to make a change getting healthy and fit (regardless of age) with like minded family oriented individuals in a positive enriched atmosphere, come check out Ralph Gracie Sacramento right here in North Natomas.

This is a great place to learn Brazilian Jiu-​Jitsu and get in shape while doing it. Manny and Kolo are terrific instructors because they teach the techniques in an accessible and thoughtful way. I’ve trained at other gyms where the instruction isn’t linear, and it was hard to incorporate those unrelated techniques into what I had learned the week before. Manny and Kolo build on what they’ve previously taught, which makes understanding the fundamental concepts much more straightforward.
As great as the instructors are, what makes the school special are the other students. You won’t find an ego anywhere in the building, and no one has anything to prove. You just show up and train with skilled partners who share your goal of improving. The school offers so many classes that it’s easy to fit training into any schedule, and we get to train with a variety of partners.
The bottom line is that no one will ever say «I wish I would have started training at this school later.»

I can’t say I’ve trained at too many schools in California (because I stuck to this one once I found it) but I have trained in many across the states and this is by far the best. I cannot wait to go back to California and train at Ralph Gracie Sacramento again. Great work out plus you get some of the absolute best BJJ training. Both instructors along with every student that sticks to it are extremely helpful, professional, and friendly!
Also, I can’t help but address the negative review. Not to sure what is going through that guy’s head but this school is by far very diverse and extremely welcoming to everyone. My husband and I both train here and it is literally our second home and extended family. Definitely do no let one rotten apple even slightly deter you from coming in and trying out an amazing school.

I’ve been practicing Jiu Jitsu for close to 4 years now and the academy I originally started with closed leaving me and my family in search of a new school. After researching and trying out other schools in the area we decided to train at Ralph Gracie Sacramento and haven’t regretted the decision in the least bit. Both my daughters, husband and I have now been training at this gym for close to a year. We call it our second home. This is a safe, supportive, healthy, fun & friendly environment where you feel welcome every time you walk in. Manny Gonzales, head instructor, is always so welcoming. Both he and Kolo are excellent instructors.
As far as the negative reviews one poster continues to leave here, I would not let that deter you from trying out this gym. In fact quite the opposite. I appreciate that the academy has barred people who are dangerous to others from training here. I am certain that people would have left the academy had the person leaving the repeated negative reviews not been asked to leave. As far as the disparaging accusations that the head instructor is racist, my observations and personal experience has shown me the opposite. If anything, the gym is a melting pot of people. If I felt otherwise, I certainly would not let my children train here.

I’ve been training at this gym for about 4 months now and I absolutely love it. Super fun positive environment. I was completely new to BJJ and everyone was more than willing to help me and keep me motivated. We’re all like a family at our gym, it’s a vibe I hear you don’t get at every gym. We have 2 amazing coaches at our gym who make working out fun. (I wouldn’t pay attention to the ONE bad review, our coach is definitely not racist)

A Racist, and Bias Instructor is heading this academy. I was kicked out of this academy for supposedly injuring a higher ranked teammate with a legal unintentional «Neck-​Crank» when I was going for a Rear Naked Choke. The story is I tapped out this man 6 – 7 times during that 6 min roll, and again after the bell ended. The athlete did not tap early, and After he spoke to me about the sub, and I clearly understood, He agreed to continue rolling with me. I did not even go for that submission any longer yet, I still was able to get tap outs on this higher ranked athlete. So basically I tapped out this higher ranked fighter multiple times without him tapping me even once, and he then low-​keyed snitched to the instructor, who then came and spoke to me after class about it, and I told him we had spoke about it, and that I agreed to make my submissions cleaner. This was the last session I had at the end of that month around july-​Aug. When I tried to sign back up at the gym, he said quote «I’m sorry bro, I can’t have you train here.» Hearing this I’m thinking wtf? So at the same time this crazy guy in Maryland is harassing me who is also into martial arts, because I bought a kimono off him and he did not ship all the products that we had negotiated on, I then was refunded half of my money since I bought 2 items, and only received 1 item. He then felt like his item was being de-​valued and despite me sending this guy screenshots of our negotiation within my payments to him and before our deal. He went and tried to have me kicked out of my gym spitefully. Therefore, this is why I am saying Manny Gonzales is racist and bias. I also only did that neck crank once. I have trained more extensively than the other athlete. How do I know this? We keep track of our attendance at RGS, and I looked us both up, and I trained more than him, which is why I was able to tap him out 7 times that day. That being said, Manny Gonzales did not really have solid reasons to kick me out. He also did not ask me on the situation or my part with this crazy guy from Maryland. I also Shipped back his kimono with my own money, and I never received my reimbursement. Despite, I am kicked out even after trying to make things better by returning my kimono that I bought. Then the funny thing is, Manny tried to pay facebook to delete my review on the fb page. Lol Manny, you cannot hide your racism, or pay to hide it. Corrupt Academy lead by a man who plays rasta Bob Marley songs, yet is completely racist. The head instructor also smokes pot behind the academy were the large sign faces the public. I know this because I smoked With him. He is a fraudulent, and jealous black belt. He is the type of instructor to promote you to the next belt without you even winning 1^st place in your current belt rank. I know this because we exchanged words over FB, and he tried to upset me by telling me his Next strongest white belt after he kicked me out, is close to blue belt after only placing 2^nd. The student has to at least place 1^st before even being considered for graduation. This was the old tracking number that was given to me after I returned alex gurevich’s kimono in which he never reimbursed me for, and manny kicked me out due too. 9 114 999 944 238 115 848 192 usps; it is no longer active due to reasons that I am not aware of. Regardless, manny is a racist instructor, this is what he wrote me on fb; «If you come to the gym, I will have a black man kick you out.» That right there is an example of a racist piece of shit.

This place is AMAZING. It’s world class jiu jitsu and world class people. Manny is the man and is a legit black belt so you don’t have to worry about «McDojo» because he competes as well. Nathan is also a stud on the mat as well as a great teacher/​coach. We have a son (younger than a year) and everyone is always smiling and holding him while I train, it’s very family friendly. The mats are clean, the people are clean, and the classes are good and techniques are useful (it’s not a plastic move that you will never use). There are few blue, purple, and brown belts so its not just white belts like some gyms I have been too, and everyone helps their partner grow. Great family environment, great jiu jitsu, and as stated amazing friends… it’s a band of brothers/​sisters. GO TRAIN

Great training atmosphere. Professor Manny and coach Nathan were welcoming and open handed with their jiujitsu techniques. Great academy, brand new mats, clean floors and excellent training. Would recommend to jiujitsu practitioners of all levels and ages.

Great place to train and cool people. I’m getting back into shape and having fun doing it too. I recommend this place to anyone that wants to learn self-​defense and get back into shape. Manny Gonzalez is a great blackbelt instructor learned a lot the first day of training. It changed my life in a positive direction. So come train.
