Such a great event to raise funds for the Sacramento Food Bank. Last year there were over 28K, and it seems like there were many more this year. Very well organized, and despite the temps in the low 30’s, everyone was in good spirits! It was a run, but really, you could only walk it, because there were 40 thousand people there. What an awesome event for a great cause! There was music and food every ¼ mile and a festive atmosphere all around. With so much negativity going around recently, it’s nice to get the community together for some fundraising fun! Well done Sacramento!

Amazing and inspiring event! I have never run a race before. In fact, a couple years ago, I didn’t even know how many miles were in a 5k and I never thought I would be someone to participate in one. However, I promised a good friend of mine that I would find one, train for it and run! When I heard about the Run to Feed the Hungry, I knew this was my race. This was one of the most inspiring events I have participated in! There were soo many people! Families with young children, single people ready to run, elderly people out to support the runners or take a stroll through the beautiful streets of East Sac, dogs(even though the rules said no dogs, but who’s really paying attention), and even some crazy guy pushing a double stroller. Really dude?! No way I was letting him beat me to the finish line! Along the way, weaving through people and admiring the perfect weather I saw so many festivities! People with signs cheering us on. Fire pits and home owners handing out cider. Volunteers passing out water and smiles. A church offering apples and umm… restrooms? I even saw an elderly lady sitting in her yard drinking a can of beer! Get it grams! There were bands playing music, people dancing and laughing and having a great time! This was the best way to start a day full of thankfulness! Beautiful weather, wonderful community and all to bring a little joy and food and holiday spirit to those less fortunate! Just another reason to love Sacramento! This is definitely my new Thanksgiving tradition!!! See you next year!

Run to Feed the Hungry is the nation’s largest Thanksgiving Day race. I volunteered for this race when I was in college. It was a fun experience seeing thousands upon thousands of people there for a good cause. I decided this would be the year I finally registered for it, because it’s their 20th anniversary. I picked up my packet at REI the day before. It was well organized. The shirts were a bit disappointing. They are very thin, so you could see through them. Thanksgiving Day: Parking wasn’t a problem at the Sac State campus. We got here after the 10k participants started already. Even without them there, there were a lot of people doing the 5k. There was a record breaking number of participants– 28,508 altogether. It took us awhile to cross the start line. My friend and I tried to jog it, but we had to weave between lots of people. Along the run, I saw some people stop at the bars. After the run, my friends and I took pictures with the blown up turkeys. If you live in Sacramento, then you should do this race at least once. It’s a Sacramento/Thanksgiving tradition!

This is my second year participating in this event and had another great time. The event was organized very well and I appreciate all the coordinators and volunteers that make this event happen. This is a great family event to kickoff Thanksgiving day. I’d like to make this a tradition.
