SAFE Credit Union

As far as credit unions go, I’d have to say this is one of the better banks I’ve used. While I only utilize them for savings, nothing much else as I bank with my main bank at Bank of America, they are always very friendly and I don’t ever seem to have much trouble when it comes to my money. There are definite pros and cons to credit unions, but this one seems legit.

I have stopped in the branch a few times. Staff is usually fairly quick and prompt. This is good for basic banking needs. Not really for the larger banking processes.
We were helped by Kenneth and John on the recent trip. The process to deposit larger checks and add user took longer than expected. They were unable to process my check and unable to answer questions regarding the clearing of the large check deposit.
Timing took too long and therefore we left because we had to determine how to get finds appropriately in accounts elsewhere.
I had already thought about changing banks and this recent trip was a good example of.

I’ve been a member for a while. It’s progressively gotten worst over the years. It’s no longer a nice small bank. They’re larger and they act like it. Calling the local bank number, no one answers. They send spam through the mail with misleading offers. Tellers at this particular location aren’t bad. If you’re looking for something better than the big banks, this is a little better but there are better options. I’ll be moving elsewhere soon.

I just want to give credit where it’s due. I went in to this branch yesterday and sat down with John Swenson. He helped me get approved for my motorcycle loan. From start to finish I was out of the bank with approval in about 45 mins. John was professional, kind, personable and extremely detail oriented. A true pleasure to work with. I would recommend this branch to anyone, based off my positive experience with John Swenson. Thanks for everything John.

Been a member for 11 years, recent visits to the Laguna and East Elk Grove branches were just so-​so. This one is closer but I feel in general this credit union has lost its friendly, personal touch. I’ve also been a member with the big Chase bank (since Washington Mutual days) and that is a whole other terrible experience. Schools Credit Union, Patelco, and Golden1 are much better to deal with money matters.

So I went in to the Natomas location of SAFE Credit Union today and had wonderful experience. I was greeted by two employees in a friendly way. I explained my situation and needs and they provided someone to assist me in setting up my account. The man who helped me was patient, understanding, and provided options that would simplify things for me. I had a great experience.

My 6 year old daughter and I went in last Saturday, my daughter (whom is a saver) emptied her piggy bank into the coin machine and had all her dollar bills (84.00) to put into her savings account, she went up to the counter, and the banker was amazing! She talked directly to my daughter asking her to verify her name, her birthday, asking her if she know how much money she saved, not rushing her, not seeming as if she was annoyed or wanting to move the line along, I felt as though she understood how proud my daughter was of herself for saving the 220.00 that she saved! She treated my 6 year old like a customer, and told her she was smart to save her money! I highly recommend this bank if you miss good old fashion customer service!

I do not belong to this credit union but my credit union participates in Co-​Op Shared Branch so I thought I would try this credit union to process a transaction with my credit union in Honolulu, HI. I usually go down the street to Schools but since I visited Sutter labs next door, I assumed their service would be as top rate as Schools.
I was mistaken. On my visit, I waited in a short line for a long time. When a teller was finally available, he left to run an errand so I had to wait longer. When I finally got to a teller, she was unable to find my credit union on their system. I spelled out the name of my credit union a few times and explained it was in Honolulu, HI. She asked her supervisor how to search for a credit union in the system and he showed her how but between the both of them they could not find my credit union.
I left there dissatisfied with the long wait and service.

These guys blow the big banks out to another planet. No bogus fees, real customer service, easy parking, excellent location. Not much more I can ask for.

We just opened an account today, and the process was very simple. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The only reason it’s only four stars is because they asked us to wait in line and speak with a teller first to start the account process. Next, they had us sit and wait for another associate to complete the paperwork. Two people and two waits — doesn’t quite make sense. What did make sense, though, is that all the employees I saw went above and beyond to help customers, including walking out of the teller area to further assist clients who needed additional help.

Sparkly perfect Natomas location of the worlds best financial institution. I kind of hate Natomas but at least SAFE has a branch there. Convenient if youre strip-​mallin’ in the urrea.

This credit union will charge a fee for every little thing possible. I had several thousand dollars in my savings account with them and went over slightly in my checking account. The fee charged was more than the overage despite the fact I had overdraft protection.
I haven’t used account for over 6 months and somehow there are $ 50.00 worth of fees they are charging me…
Worst credit union ever!

Best bank ever, friendly people & fast service.

Would have given 0 stars if possible. Worst Credit Union EVER. My credit union (American River) merged with them. I had been with American River for 15 years without issue.
Safe Credit Union robs me of $ 50 for «overdraft» when I had a ton of money in savings, and even though they assured me they were just like American River in every way. I send them a secure email through their website with my secure login and they tell me they can’t help me because I am giving them an incorrect DOB. Even though my DOB was right with 15 years for American River, even though when I signed up for their online services by DOB was right. Somehow miraculously in a month I didn’t know my own DOB. I tell them it is correct, and to check American Rivers database and they close my ticket and refuse to speak to me. This was a person named Nicole.
I open another ticket, explain the issue, they require proof of my DOB. I send in proof, then someone named Rayna says «great that’s all cleared up, any other issues» yeah how about the $ 50 that started this whole mess, mensa?
Rayna writes back that this process is the same as American River (it isn’t) and they won’t give me my $ 50 back. So I tell Rayna to close the account. I would be better off with wells fargo.
All throughout this TWO WEEK LONG process I have asked to speak to a manager and no one has ever called me. Safe Credit Union obviously has too much money to care about retaining customers. I advise you to keep your money anywhere else. Like a mattress. Your mattress wont charge you $ 50 for the honor of storage, or tell you that you don’t know your own DOB.

I bank there only because golden one is not an option. This bank raised interest rate and will not do anything for us. No auto loan, no lower interest rate, no consolidation loan. NOTHING! We are home owner and great credit. Worst banks ever Chase and Safe. hmm

I was just in today and didn’t see the coin machine anymore — not sure if it’s moved or gone…
