I live in the neighborhood and it is nice to have a great sushi restaurant. The food is great. Their fish taste very fresh.

I’ve tried the potstickers and they are amazing! I order this for lunch for a group in the office and everyone gets excited! A big favorite is their Thursday special of Soba noodles! They deliver at the time they promise and the order is correct. Can’t ask for more :)

Was at an all-day seminar down the street and stopped in for lunch. Pastrami was great, just don’t get it on sourdough or you’ll be holding the sandwich together instead of the bread. Super friendly staff and a large selection. Would definitely come back here

Came in during the lunch rush with a coworker and I was pleasantly surprised by the really good customer service and really fast service. We both ordered the sesame chicken with house sauce and it was absolutely delicious. Sweet chicken and a fresh side salad. A little on the small on the inside so we will definitely order our food to go. The reason why I took one star off was because of the price. For the amount of food given I wish they would’ve given a bigger portion. If you’re tired of UCDMC food or are just in the area, you should definitely try them out for breakfast or lunch!

Really good Korean food, especially the beef. Only issues are no parking close & only open M-F 7 – 330. It’s so good we want night & weekend hours.

Came here for the first time today. — lots of people come here, so that’s a good thing — the place is pretty small — the menu is huge; breakfast and lunch, coffee, teas, etc. — felt the food is kind of pricey I ordered a small salad and I must say it was okay. I believe it was about $ 5.99 for a small and $ 7.99 for a large. Not sure I’ll go back. Or maybe I will for breakfast.

Came here for lunch the other day, really convenient location from the UC Davis Med Center. Ordered a veggie wrap which was good, but there wasn’t any type of protein or cheese inside. There is also a Korean menu so next time I might ask to add tofu. One of the friends in my group had specified his allergies before ordering, but when he got his food it was still covered in the thing he’s allergic to! Fortunately he noticed before taking a bite, and they remade the dish for him, but still… could have been bad. Willing to try this place again though and see if I can give it more stars.

My co-worker at UC Davis eats here pretty frequently, which I think is partially for the short walk and price. She does however love their spring rolls and bibimbap. I decided to buy us both lunch today so we chose Sunshine. We ordered ahead so she could walk over for pick up. I was kind of torn between the Korean BBQ beef and the sesame chicken. I hardly ever eat dark meat, but in retrospect I could have gone with my gut and eaten«Korean beef» at a «Korean» café. Anyway, I ordered the sesame chicken sans breading, so it was just boiled chicken. I asked for brown rice instead of white, with the side salad. When I opened the box I was a a bit surprised at how bland my chicken looked. Ok, I get it, I ordered it without the breading. I was very pleased they were happy to accomodate that hence the extra star. But the sesame sauce was just so little. It was all at the bottom of the box absorbed by the rice so I rubbed my chicken into that. I will say, though, that I’m glad they boil the chicken as it was not dry. Good customer service. Very inexpensive. If my co-worker asks me to try it again I’d be willing to get the Bibimbap.

Decent food not great at all. Got the Korean BBQ dish the only taste it had was the teriyaki sauce that wasn’t so great either. Rice tasted a little weird. Not worth 10 bucks.

Always good, solid quality food. Their Korean BBQ is pretty tasty as is their bibimbap. I also love the family that runs this place. They are friendly and always welcoming to their customers, even during peak lunch hour. A favorite!

This is my first time here and I absolutely love it! The staff is really friendly and kind. The food is so good too! I got the Korean bbq beef dish. It has teriyaki sauce on a bed of Korean beef and rice. They give you A LOT of meat too! It’s so yummy! It reminds me of the Korean food in LA. On another note, they have great window seating.

I’ve eaten here a number of times over the years, mainly because it’s one of 3 eating establishments within walking distance of my job. It’s a tiny café serving breakfast foods and a variety of lunch items, from the usual soups, salads, and sandwiches, to a number of Asian dishes(udon, potstickers, sesame chicken, and even bibimbap, on occasion). Menu looks good but what you actually get is very little in taste and quality. My friend always orders the chef salad and swears their vinaigrette dressing is the bomb. The meat and cheese are slivers of cold cuts, which never look appetizing to me on a salad. It is a good size portion though. I’ve had some of the Asian entrees and sandwiches, which have ranged from bland to average, but always never worth what I paid for. On my most recent visit, I had the the«sunshine sandwich»($ 7), made up of chicken salad, cream cheese, and avocado. The chicken salad was mushy, not much avocado or cream cheese, pretty much nothing to make the sandwich stand out. That sad little sandwich and a regular drink cost $ 9.20! It’s nice to at least have Sunshine Café as another lunch option in the area, but I think I’ll stick to Subway.

Oh my gosh what a cute place with coffee and breakfast in the mornings. Right by the hospital ;) they also do sandwiches, salads, korean bbq items and rice dishes! Owned by an adorable korean family, so sweet they are!

This hidden gem is located inside the Sherman building on the corner of Stockton boulevard & Sherman Way across from UCDMC. I remembered when I started working day shift; I would eat here almost everyday for lunch. I actually gained close to 40 pounds as a result of it! I put myself on Weight Watchers because I hated taking pics of myself that I ended up losing the entire forty pounds! They had changed ownership back then but it’s been the same Korean family since. My favorite items were the Korean beef lunches & large salads. I believe each day they have their daily specials. They do open pretty early in the morning by 7 but close by 330 pm. They do not open weekends or holidays. I’m sure they took a hit when UCDMC opened the Pavilion café; because even La Bou closed right afterwards. If you are in the area they do have parking in the back of the building especially if you want to stop for breakfast, lunch or to even take home for dinner! I knocked down one star because parking is a pain around UCDMC but that shouldn’t stop you from coming here!

On my second day of work at UCDMC a coworker invited me to lunch at Sunshine Café. Sunshine Café is a small café but don’t be fooled by their size; they are serving up big things. I decided to go with one of the Tuesday specials, the teriyaki chicken bowl($ 6.49). Like my coworker said, the food was good and very fresh. The teriyaki chicken bowl came with 4 steamed vegetables(bean sprouts, broccoli, carrots and cabbage), rice and chicken. For $ 6.49 it was just the right amount of food. The café is small so seating may be limited during the peak lunch hour. Pro tip: Call in advance and order for pick up. Our food was ready upon arrival and we were lucky enough to score a seat inside. The staff was friendly and restaurant was clean. Sunshine Café opens at 7:00am for breakfast until about 10:30am. After that they dish out hot and cold sandwiches, specialty salads and various Asian influenced dishes(Chinese, Japanese, Korean) in their daily specials. Since I’ll be working at UCDMC for the next few months I’m looking forward to trying the Korean BBQ Beef, Kobe Sandwhich and Soba noodles.

Sunshine Café is essentially the only independent business that is walking distance from the hospital. So, I’ve tried it numerous times despite the food being okay at best +Galbi sandwich is okay, but quite boring as it is mainly a pile of meat in bread. Would have liked some veggies in it to make the sandwich lighter and balanced –Sunshine sandwich is pretty actively bad… –Bibimbap is super boring, –Salads here make no sense The owners are super friendly and reasonably quick though, so there’s that Rotating daily specials make Sunshine café a slightly better bet than the hospital cafeteria though for those who have to eat in this area frequently

I absolutely love this place for my bacon breakfast burrito fix. Potatoes, bell peppers, onions, bacon, and a great tasting salsa on the side. It’s family fun and they all are super nice. I haven’t gotten there for lunch yet but hear the lunch foods are delicious too.

I came here last Thursday during my lunch break. There’s absolutely no nearby parking. We had to park a couple blocks away in the houses and walk. I ordered the korean bbq beef with steamed rice and a salad. My boyfriend ordered the sesame chicken with steamed rice and a salad. We were in and out of there within 5 – 10 minutes. The food was good and filling. I’d like to come back and try other items on the menu :)

The best thing about Sunshine Café is its convenient location right across from the UCD med campus. Some friends and I had some time to kill, so we wandered across the street to grab a quick bite to eat– walking, it took us less than ten minutes. This place is very cute and the people who work here are adorable and super sweet. I think you get bonus points with them if you talk to them in Korean. The Korean friend who I came with chatted with them for a little bit in Korean, and I think they really appreciated that. The actual space is fairly small, but I imagine most people get take-out anyway from here. Food-wise, the menu has an interesting mix of Korean/asian and more western style dishes. The juxtaposition threw me off a little bit, but I guess that just means they have something for everyone. I tried the sesame chicken. I wasn’t blown away by it, but it wasn’t terrible either. I give it a pass, but I’d like to come back and try some of their other menu items. I think it’s fair for lunch food, but I don’t know if I would come back specifically for the food here if I wasn’t in a time crunch/too lazy to venture elsewhere. tl;dr: Decent food, decent price, and close to the UCD med center! I think that makes Sunshine Café a-ok.

After working at the UCD med center for 1.5 months, I finally got to try Sunshine Café. This little place is Korean owned and sells a variety of sandwiches and Korean lunch plates. Each day they offer specials if you get tired of the regular menu. I ordered the Korean Beef Wrap — $ 7(one of the Monday specials). Inside the wrap was korean bbq beef(bulgolgi), a ton of lettuce, cheese, tomato and a little bit of a creamy sauce(seasoned mayo?). Great place if you work at the med center and get tired of the hospital food. You can also call ahead of time to place your order if you are short on time.
