Let me begin by saying that my daughter(enrolled in the K-1st grade program) loves this summer camp! She is in her 3rd week of attendance and is so stimulated that the extra-curricular programs I enrolled her in to keep her active throughout the year are now superfluous. First and foremost, this camp provides meaningful spiritual guidance. My daughter is becoming more aware of issues surrounding faith and belief and I longed to nurture that in a loving way. Thankfully, this program provides just the right balance that spiritually encourages and inspires the kids. They see the beauty and warmth of our faith and I see her embracing it and welcoming it in a whole new way. The program supports the values and beliefs that we are trying to foster at home so instead of being worried about what she is being exposed to when she goes to school, I feel confident and excited. Her teacher is a well-spring of patience, energy, and kindness. In fact, from what I can see(and I’ve been volunteering there), all the teachers and mentors are dedicated, passionate, and truly care about the kids. They are hip role models that the kids can identify with and want to emulate! The art program fosters serious creativity and I find myself taking pictures of all the great crafts and art projects the gifted art teacher sets up so I can experiment with my kids at home. As for athletics, they really keep the kids active and my daughter comes home tuckered out(which I love!). They walk to Southside Park every day, where the kids play to their heart’s content. The camp also has a contract with«Amazing Athletes» twice a week and my daughter thrives on the specialized physical exertion. Once a week they go on a field trip, arriving in style with a chartered yellow school bus(which she is tickled to be in!). Another day of the week, features a guest speaker. This is a brand-new and developing program so there might be some minor adjustments made as time passes. While there is an academic component and the scholastic curriculum focuses on age-appropriate retention of educational fundamentals, I am not looking for a cut-throat or strict focus on bookish smarts. At this young stage, I value a curriculum that looks at holistic well-being which emphasizes virtues and manners, spiritual growth, play, creativity, art, exploration, physical activity and fosters a thirst for knowledge. Ultimately, this camp has been delivering on(and appears to exceed) it’s promise about nurturing the mind, body and soul and does it in such a way that makes my daughter want to return for more!
